Apparently, Offenbach is "dangerous" (according to our waitress).. but I'm still glad we ended up…read moreat this restaurant, because the food was delish! Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, and spoke English (which we were appreciative of). They didn't have an English menu, but most of the items on the menu were understandable, and our waitress helped with the rest. I ordered the Hahnchengeschnetzeltes, because I mistakenly misread it as a type of schnitzel. It's not, but it was still good. It was a chicken dish, with a mushroom sauce that tasted similar to curry. My boyfriend and friends ordered a smoked pulled pork sandwich and burgers, which they seemed to enjoy. NOTE: Something I, as an American, wasn't use to.. no glasses of water! You have to purchase bottles of water, and be sure to ask for "water, no gas" or "still water" if you don't want sparkling water. Also, you might as well order a beer, because the prices are almost the same.

Ambiance (4/5): You may have trouble finding this speakeasy if you don't do your research prior. It's located inside what looks like the entrance to an apartment. Walk in, press the buzzer, and the hostess will greet you. Once you get inside, it's dimly lit with old school charm. My only complaint. No A/C and uncomfortable chairs. Service (4/5): At a speakeasy, you expect elevated service. And it was good here. Our waiter answered our questions, made recommendations, and had a good sense of humor. When he was asked what a popular cocktail is in Germany, he said beer. Food (N/A): I was on a liquid diet, and I don't think they have food anyway. Drinks (4/5): They have a long list of craft cocktails which is a plus. What I look for at a speakeasy is creativity and an interesting blend of flavors. While some of the options on their menu are basic cocktails, there are some interesting ones, too. The one I had, while the name is escaping me, had a nice fruity and refreshing profile. One of the coolest bars I checked out in Frankfurt. Prost!

They have "Handkäse" which is a pretty stinky type of cheese served with picked onions on top. They also have more hefty meat and potato dishes. I got the Fränkische Wurste on top of Sauerkraut. It was good and they have caraway seeds on the table, ready to go! And, of course, since they are a Frankfurter Restaurant they have Apfelwein (Apple wine). This stuff is relatively low in alcohol; I'm guessing in the neighborhood of about 4% abv. On top of that, it is cloudy and not heavily carbonated. The aroma is strongly of apples but you can't really taste them, instead it is tart with hints of horse-blanket. You might call it 'rustic'. The restaurant is situated at a T-instersection, but about 4 roads come together around the intersection. In any case, the city made a little plaza by this intersection and Weida's outdoor seating takes advantage of that. The contrast between the outdoor and indoor decor can be shocking. Outside, you sit on benches at tables and the surface is new and dark and fairly open, even though there are buildings all around. Inside is typically German with lots of wood and low ceilings, as well as longer tables so you can share your table with another party. I've only been once, but from what I hear, the quality of the food is consistently good and the price is well worth it. Especially if you are just visiting for a short trip, you should go to Weida!
