The service here is quite good and the staff very accommodating. The menu has plenty of items on it for starters, mains and dessert. There is also a steak menu albeit smaller than one of their other locations in town. They did offer to send a taxi to pickup a Tomahawk steak from their other branch and cook it for us if we agreed to pay the taxi fare and wait a while to eat. I thought that was a nice touch. All of us ordered a steak and I had a rib eye cooked English style, medium rare but more on the rare side. It was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. They had a small wine menu but the wines were well priced and good. For dessert I had their house speciality, pancakes and it was also good. Overall a great experience and I would happily come here again. It's a great spot for people watching in the warmer months.

Alright, as for the review: I think the place is solid, as long as you know what you're getting into. This is the place in Dortmund for a Schnitzel, some beer, and probably a football match. Better, in my opinion, than Zum Alten Markt across the Platz. At Wenkers they brew their own beer: a Schwarzbier, which I find pretty good, and then their Urtrüb, which I find kinda bland but which my German coworker insists is "süffig" (smooth? quaffable?). Also Kronen Pils is available because come on, you're in Dortmund, there's no escaping the Pilsners. Also Schöfferhofer Weizen but that's honestly one of the worst hefeweizens in my opinion. Hold out for a Paulaner, Weihenstephaner, or Maisel-Weisse if you're in Germany only briefly. Uh, as for Schnitzel, I'm a Pfefferrahm kind of guy. Get a Schnitzel and some beers and consume until you're nice and belly-full.

The spätzle was unique in that it's very creamy and is a stand-alone dish. We also got the appetizer schnitzel that comes with a fried egg, salad, and bratkartoffeln. I thought the schnitzel and bratkartoffeln were the best part of the meal because they were both crispy and the right amount of salty. They also have have a wide selection of local and other domestic beers to choose from.

Maximilian has a huge beer garden out front, but the tables were all full when we visited. The service inside was friendly and provided an English menu. The sweet potato fries were delicious and come with your choice of dipping sauce, the pizza was good as well. And as always the beer was the best part. And if you are looking to buy some Dortmund gear nearby, there is a team shop right next door.
