I'm a big fan of Michael's Bagels. It's a neighborhood spot and it always seems like there are regulars there. There isn't a ton of seating, so it's more of a grab and go spot, not so much a sit down place. They've got everything you'd expect from a typical bagel joint, including a ton of cream cheese options and other spreads. Living in Boston, I'm always excited to have a New York bagel and these bagels here lived up to my expectations. The bagels are soft, with just the right amount of chew, and they're not too dense. I just went for an everything bagel with no spread this time, but when I've had their tuna and egg salad in the past, they were pretty solid. I'd recommend if you're looking for a casual place to grab some breakfast or lunch!

You come here for the bagels, not the service. We decided to try it one day when we passed by and noticed it was emptier than usual. We didn't see anyone use credit card so guess it might be a cash-only spot. We tried an onion bagel with scallion cream cheese and ate it right away. It has a great crunchy exterior with a gently toasted interior and thick slab of cream cheese. Firm, not runny cream cheese. Plenty of scallion. Good chunk and great flavor. It was really enjoyable. We came twice - one time where staff wasn't chatty (older gentleman) and another time when the staff (different employees) were great. It's all good because the bagels will speak for themselves. Almost $11 for two bagels so it depends on how much you really want that bagel. Yet another time, three bagels were $13. I do love that crunch with their toasted bagels though. Definitely look forward to going back.

Decent bagel shop with efficient service and a good selection of bagels (though you have to come early if you want all the flavors bc if they run out, then they're just out) and cream cheese. A little pricey, especially if you're getting additional toppings, like lox. If you're eating at home, I'd recommend buying your lox somewhere else and just adding it on yourself (though the lox quality is quite good here). Stopped by for a quick lunch and got a cinnamon raisin bagel with vegetable cream cheese. Bagel isn't too dense or too fluffy and the cream cheese has a good cream cheese to vegetable ratio. The flavors aren't particularly strong in either, which is great if you wanna top it off with some lox or different topping as well. There are definitely raisins and other chunks of vegetable in the bagel and cream cheese which is great for the occasional extra bit of flavor. Service was very quick and to the point. Not much of a line (though it WAS the afternoon). There was only one employee so I did not witness any screaming or oddities that the other review mentioned. I also got a pretty simple order, so did not have to repeat it or clarify. The few times in the past that I've been, I've never had an issue with my order though, so it may have been a fluke that the other review mentioned.

These don't taste like regular bagels at all. They taste like hard dry rolls. Dissapointing.

Always freshly-made and best bagel in town. Never been disappointed and it's pretty addicting. You just need self-control.

I really like their bagels. Maybe a little lighter than other NY bagels but that's what I like about them. My grown kids like them too.

They are pretty precise with the weight of spread you order, as well. We ordered the egg salad, tuna salad, and scallion cream cheese spread. The egg salad and tuna salad were mild in flavor, not heavy, tasted healthy. I've only come on weekends, so there is always a line out the door, but there are many staff members, so the line moves. If you are ordering a lot of bagels, be prepared for back-up options because although they are constantly making the bagels on the premise, popular options do run out and you may have to wait 15min for a new batch.

They've done such an outstanding job across the board (customer service, price, food, etc.) that I am constantly thinking about going back. Located on the constantly busy (#2) 30th Ave, one wouldn't notice this place as being any different from any other bagel shop. There's hardly any seating but a steady stream of customers all throughout the day. The NSFW signage (#3) keeps the place fresh and interesting, if not extremely memorable. The first thing that is offered (and often complimentary) is their fried rice balls, dubbed "Ben's Balls" that are mixed with seasoned rice, kimchi, topped with a gochujang mayo that would wake up any sleepyhead. Each bite had a nice crunch, but the lingering effect of the kimchi makes it addicting. It is the ultimate complementary snack, a desired, potluck item, and frankly genius. This is not something I would ever consider getting out a bagel shop, but having had them I would gladly buy them by the dozens. Most folks are here for the Seoul Meets Bagel (SMB) and rightfully so: it's layered with chopped bulgogi meat, cheese, egg, kimchi, topped with gochujang mayo and is packed with flavor. While the dank ass pork sandwich is a crude name, but it's not hard to see why it's one of their best sellers. Their regular bagels are also excellent. Folks who are expecting a large variety of cream cheese may find it disappointing that there's only a handful in the display, but they do have lox, bacon scallion, tofu cream cheese, and some flavored cream cheese. For what it's worth, my toasted everything bagel with lox was fabulous. It was pillowy soft, nicely toasted, and extremely filling. Offering Korean savory bagels wouldn't be complete without actual Korean fare, which is also a part of their larger than expected menu. It includes items such as Korean fried chicken, kimbap, pajeon (various), bibimbap, kalbi, ramyum, and mandoo. This is in addition to the burgers, breakfast platters and sandwiches, and a number of pastries. The staff is mostly Spanish and English speaking, in addition to the owner Ben who brings Korean to the table. Prices are very reasonable for Astoria and I'm hoping they continue to stay that way. This spot is the ultimate neighborhood spot and I'm insanely jealous of all the residents in the area that get to enjoy this on the regular. ___________ (#1) Why mess with something that doesn't need changing? Oh, because palate + innovation. (#2) And incredibly gentrified. (#3) One sign reads: "My happy place is when I tell people to .... FU, KMA, MF, STFU, SOB, SMD." Oh how New York.

I ordered an egg and cheese bagel with salt, pepper, and ketchup, along with a coffee--since, according to their own sign, it was supposed to be free. The man at the register (who I assume was the owner) charged me extra for the coffee anyway. When I politely pointed out that the coffee should be free, he acted clueless and said, "Oh, I didn't know you wanted the special." Seriously? Why would anyone knowingly choose to pay extra for something clearly advertised as free? He then said, "Okay, I'll give it to you," but still charged me the full amount. When I asked again if the discount had actually been applied, he flat-out claimed that it had. I showed him right there that it hadn't, and instead of fixing it, he shrugged it off and said there was nothing he could do--basically trying to keep the extra money. At that point, I walked out. It's not about the price of a coffee--it's about honesty. If you advertise something, honor it. This felt deceptive, shady, and completely unprofessional. Disgusting business practices.
