The draw for me is the Dermalogica range used in their facial treatments; it's also worth mentioning that the therapists at Lextan also carry out a free face mapping skin analysis, where your face is split into 14 zones to target any skin problems or concerns you have. Sun beds can be potentially a risk to skin damage and its always best to use the sun beds for short durations with adequate sun cream and goggles, that being said there's no reason not to come back many times as the price is very low so spread the time to get a tan out over a week or two and don't be tempted to overdo it as your skin won't forgive you for it. The equipment is as good as Supersun so it's a toss up between the two.

The staff here are very lovely and, importantly, well qualified in their fields of expertise. You really get the impression that they know what they're talking about, and that was only when I went in for a price list. They also have a range of products and gifts on sale, as well as vouchers available if you wanted to treat someone to a relaxing afternoon (or if you know someone with an uno-brow, who just won't take the hint.)

Appointments aren't necessary and so you can simply pay them a visit on the spur of the moment when the mood takes you, and check yourself in for a session for the length of time that you feel like. The chances are that they will be able to fit you in straight away, but at worst you will only ever be expected to wait for 20 to 15 minutes. I'm not so keen on sun beds these days, although I used to regularly visit a tanning shop in Exeter when I lived in Devon. There is definitely some merit in preparing your skin for some serious rays if you are planning a trip abroad... (which is the main reason I used to use sun beds). I have a tendency to go to exotic climes where the temperatures can exceed 40 degrees Celsius, and so a few trips to the tanning salon before my departure has meant that my fair skin was less likely to burn when exposed to harsh sunlight for long periods. These days I'm more concerned about the aging effects of using sun beds. This coupled with the fact that they are super-quick makes me wonder about the long term effects of using them. Nevertheless, I think I'd still grab a few sessions before going somewhere really hot, rather than take the risk of burning like a lobster when on holiday. After all, sun burn can kill a vacation!

Apparently, this place provides us with 'the modern way to tan', yet every person who emerges from the place seems to have got totally carried away, so that they glow artificially orange. Still, if sunbeds are your thing, it's very accessible, open every day of the week from 7am in the morning until 9pm in the evening, and with no appointment necessary (since you pop your own coin into the slot to get things started) - and with their 'pay as you go' system costing from just 30p per minute, it's also very cheap.

You can buy lotions if you want and the eye protection is given free of charge. Prices are extremely competitive and often have a sale on too. It is open really long hours as well, so you can go in before work in the morning or quite late at night ( 10pm I believe). All in all, 5 stars.

But that would mean talking about issues that prove that we as humans fall short of perfection... and that wouldn't do! For £15 you can get blasted with a hose full of brown dye and be on your way within half an hour. One of the women there asks me how my job interview went every time I go there and I don't have the heart to tell her that she's probably mistaken me for another girl. Still, she maintains eye contact when I'm in the nude and has probably seen me naked more than anyone else has in the last few months. All the girls at Bodywise are sweet, friendly and easy to chat to when you're having your treatments. They will also do their best to accomodate you if you're in dire need of a tan/wax/tint. As if you needed any more convincing, at some point last September my best friend burst in with yeti legs and and an unruly bikini line and swears blind she had the quickest and least painful waxing of her life.
