I hired Jonathan Blake Spencer of Spencer Fence and Gates for a $9,000 fence installation, with the clear agreement it would be finished within one week--by Friday. What followed was a series of delays, excuses, and unprofessional conduct that left me out thousands of dollars and without a proper fence. Timeline of Events: Contract Signed: February 19, 2025, for one-week completion. Payments: $3,000 for posts and groundwork, $3,000 for pickets, fence door, and chicken wire, then $1,800 extra after he claimed a "rookie mistake" in his calculations. Excuses: After minimal progress, he cited a family emergency, transportation issues, and then asked for the rest of the $9,000 for truck repairs, even though the job was nowhere near finished. Refusal to Provide Documentation: Despite repeated requests, he never gave me receipts or showed his contractor's license. Aggressive Behavior: When I refused to pay more, Jonathan and his coworker became aggressive and refused to leave my property until I paid them more. Access Lost: His delays and misuse of the neighboring church's property led to us losing access, forcing me to hire another contractor under tight deadlines. No Warranty: The new contractor couldn't warranty the fence, since he was finishing someone else's incomplete work. I've now paid twice for a fence and still have no warranty. Ignored Offers to Help: I even offered to pick up the materials myself, rent a truck, or pay extra just to get the job finished. Jonathan refused, ghosted me, and ignored my calls for weeks, making it clear he'd spent my money elsewhere. I priced out all the materials myself and know what they should have cost. Shoddy Work: The new contractor confirmed that Jonathan's work was subpar and had to redo his repairs and posts. Selective Availability: Ironically, Jonathan was able to show up for unrelated moving work I hired him for, so he could get paid for his truck, but ignored all fence-related communication. As a disabled senior citizen, this ordeal caused significant financial and emotional stress for my family, and we had to upgrade our home security. I've reported Jonathan to Adult Protective Services and the police and am pursuing both a refund in court and a case for elder abuse. I had previously had tile guy evaluate the floor and he found it to be grossly unlevel. Davis came into the house and arrogantly shuffled his feet across the floor proclaiming he had 20+ years experience and said oh yeah it's unlevel. No measurements were ever made, just shuffled across the floor. I paid him about $12,000 dollars to level and tile the floor. When I had the base board trim installed I had gaps under the trim throughout the house. I called David about a week after trim install but he wouldn't answer. A week later I called again and got a hold of him. I told him what I had and asked if he would come by and look at it. He asked that I send pictures, which I did. He claimed he sent the pictures to several others and within 20 minutes he comes back and says that they all suggest shoe moulding. He refused to come and look at it. In short it appears that not enough leveling material was used. He even admitted during the work that it was worse than he thought and barely had enough material to cover the floor and he ended up leaving a couple of closets bare so he could get done. He claims that if covered it's level. So according to him it's within spec. Close is good! So according to David you have to trim your house twice.
