My 200th review.
Hazelbrook is a township in the Blue Mountains about 93 km west of Sydney and 17 km east of Katoomba. The 2006 census population was 4,447. Elevation 674 metres (2,211 feet).
Hazelbrook station opened in 1884 on the Main Western railway line served by CityRail's Blue Mountain services. Hazelbrook is situated on the Great Western Highway as all these mountain train towns are. The station was placed next to Hazelbrook House, built in the 1870s by Bronte Noelle. The station has an island platform, accessed by a footbridge from a vehicle overpass from the Great Western Highway to the streets on the south side of the train line. The Mountain line runs one train each way per hour in off-peak, with additional trains during peak hours.
Hazelbrook House is no longer there, but people come to see the historic Selwood House (heritage-listed) that includes a science museum. The natural attractions are the mountain bush trails and waterfalls. These include Oaklands Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Burgess Falls and Lyre Bird Glen on the north side. On the south side are Terrace Falls, Victor Falls and Bedford Pool.
