This review is definitely long overdue! I've lived in the Hayden for around 8 years and I absolutely love it. The front desk staff is welcoming especially Max, Jean Anthony, saquib, George and Edwin. the maintenance workers are very nice and always available to help fix anything like Juan and Luis and resident managers are friendly and easy to get in contact with. The building is well maintained, always clean, and very safe! One of my favorite things is how they always go all out for holiday decorations! It's very impressive! Giving 1 star until this is changed. When I was showed the place, I was told that the BBQ grills would be free and this was included my contract. Management has subsequently changed this policy and are now charging $25 for use of all BBQ grills except for 1 (You know they left this one free to "stay within their contract"). This is horseshit. Don't tell me it's free and then change your mind once I move in. Now there is a bunch of grills no one can use because of the outrageous cost. Until this is resolved, I'd publicly give 1 star. read more

Hayden and its staff are great. It is Rockrose and the management company that you should stay away from and what has earned them this 1 star review. I had heard of Rockrose's less than stellar reputation and unethical business practices across the industry before signing our lease, but where ultimately lured in by the building itself (amenities, size, newness, staff) and decided to take a risk. Rockrose has truly lived up to every terrible review you can find about them on the internet and my advice to is to not overlook the things other people are saying about their shady business practices. If you do sign here or with any Rockrose building, be prepared for little-to-no transparency, lack of human decency/respect, and to spend way more than you prepared to do so/not get your security deposit back. As you can see from previous posts, the unit finishings in this building are CHEAP. Hayden is one of the most expensive buildings in this area and they market themselves as premium/luxury. Its gold plated shit - everything is disguised to be premium but its just standard and they will charge you an arm and a leg for small wear and tear. Their claim is that this is a luxury building so the finishings are expensive to replace or touch up. Right now their is a mass exodus going on with current tenants who were extremely disappointed in how Hayden operated during the pandemic. Because of this they are offering great deals for new tenants while increasing rent for current tenants. They also fill openings through low income housing applications. If you move to the area make sure to sign with a leasing company who offers some sort of transparency and does not alter serious policies, and or details of the lease without notifying you. read more

We found this place by walking by. We moved in here with a move in special. We lived here for a little over a year. There are about a thousand units here. So, keep that in mind. Move in was easy because I didn't have much when I moved in. Lol. We lived in a studio. They have a super efficient front desk that processes packages. If you need something ASAP, you may have to talk to them. But, ours were processed same day. Sign and get it. The front desk overall were nice. They deal with a lot. So, if you have a bad experience, just consider it a one off. Overall, hard working and efficient. After a few months the front staff knew our names. I found that impressive considering there's so many people in the building. You can pay the rent via internet with no service charge. The electric was under a hundred every month. Even less on those months you don't need heat or cold. We used RCN for cable and internet. The box is built into the wall. It's in the closet. They had a promo and we got hbo and showtime. The reception in the building is really bad. You'll need WiFi in the building. We lived on the east wing. I'd recommend that because of the elevator. I rarely waited. The elevator is fast. They have a outgoing mailbox slot for the mailroom. The amenities are nice. The rooftop when we moved in had a mostly unobstructed view of the skyline, but at the end of the lease there was a taller building going up. It's still a sight to see. Try it around sunset the colors and the skyline are amazing. We didn't utilize the grills. But, saw them being used occasionally. A lot of the amenities we not used. The basketball court is a nice touch. Be careful. The gym is nice. A lot of treadmills and weights. Most of the stuff, I didn't know how to use. 90% of the time I got a treadmill. Occasionally had to settle for bike. But. Bikes are always open. When we put requests for maintenance. It was addressed swiftly. The AC/heater is a bit loud, we bought a space heater and cycled the AC. The closets hold more than you think. The studio we had was spacious. Big open space with large windows and views. The kitchen has nice granite countertops. The dishwasher. We used it to hold the dishes to dry, it might have been better to put it on the far side versus near side. The wood flooring is a lighter shade. Not creaky. The washer/dryer combo is nice. It is a Bosch and there is a self-cleaning function. Which we liked. The bathroom has built in shelves and a cabinet. Shower pressure is good. Drain had occasional issues where we probably requested 4 times in our stay there. They use an app called BuildingLink. They cleaned it out every time. Moving out: it was super efficient. There's a lot of families going in and out. But, we got a moving service and they took care of the heavy lifting. We got the first date and time requested. We did the final check out and it went well. They gave us our full deposits back. They also tack on interest. I think the rate is less than 0.01% Overall, I'd recommend the place. It is pricey. This has been my best NYC living experience yet! The amenities are all incredibly nice with everything you could ever want (except a pool -- but they do have a basketball court). The staff is INCREDIBLE. Very responsive to all requests, repairs are almost instantaneous, trash and recyclables are taken out very often, and they always say hi to you when you walk in and remember you by face (I honestly still don't know how they do that). A+ place and a true hidden gem. Easy access to so many major subway lines -- this place truly has it all! read more

Do not live here. The amenities are nice but you can only have 2 guests. You can't have any guests in the gym or basketball court. What's the point of the amenities if you can't enjoy the place with anyone?? The finish in the apartment is cheap.the paint and walls rub off when you clean it. The are 5 elevators but only 3 work. They have so many vacancies now they have to resort to giving incentives for new lease signing. Not worth it. Save yourself the aggravation. read more

If I can give zero star then I definitely would!The leasing office will show your apartment before you moving out without permission everyday! Not weekends just everyday! Even if they still have other available apartments with the same floor plan. Treat your room like a zoo that strangers can come and leave. Can't believe the positive reviews. The elevators are slow. Turn back before it's too late! This is your warning. We have lived here for 2 years, which is 2 years too long. ROCKROSE / Hayden (The building) has been less than accommodating and extremely unflexible during one of the hardest hit times. Instead of providing leniency, or even just human decency, during Covid, the building has instead decided to ensure they take tenant's for every dime they have. Since quarantine started, ROCKROSE (the building) has only become more stingy with money while simultaneously removing amenities for tenants to use. It is clear that Rockrose/ Hayden's main focus is flipping tenants rather than keeping them. To provide a bit more detail - There is zero transparency with Rockrose/ Hayden. You are not informed when policies change, especially significant policies that affect payment or your finances (resulting in tenants having to pay more money). In our specific case, the building quoted us one thing in WRITING, and when we reached out to confirm what they told us, they then, AND ONLY THEN, notified us that their policies changed and would no longer adhere to what they originally told us. This resulted in us having to scramble to pay a lot more money than we were previously told we needed to. Besides these most recent experiences, in general we have noticed that the elevators are down at least 1x a week. In the evenings there is always a line for the elevators (waiting for one of them that actually works). We have heard from numerous tenants who have moved that the building has charged them A LOT for "damages" aka minimal scratches or nicks in the wall that no other building would usually charge you for. Half the doormen are nice, half are cranky. Amenities that were previously free are now being charged for, on top of rent. There were amenities taken away from us because of Covid (which is understandable), but the building did nothing to compensate, or offer solutions for, people even though the amenities are a HUGE part of why people live here. And lastly, it is clear that customer service is on the bottom of their priority list so if you have an issue with something that involves the building - good luck! At a time like this, buildings should be working with their tenants in good faith, not try to nickel and dime them for everything they have. read more

Just moved out. Strongly not recommend this place. The front desk staff here is very rude and unfriendly. The communication within the management team is terrible. You never know when the repairmen will come to your apartment after you scheduled one. After you move out, they will conduct a super harsh inspection. They will charge you for any oil stain in the kitchen or water stain in bathroom before letting you know. Consider carefully before you decide to move in. read more

The views from the rooftop are breathtaking. The amenities are worth it: very nice- well maintained duplex 24hour gym, yoga studio, building link with prompt repairs, billiards room, lounge, office space, sundeck with grills and movies played on the lawn, the location and proximity to Manhattan, balconies, kids playroom, very large laundry room as well as washer & dryer in unit, the windows are great quality as they shield any outdoor noise (except for when it's very windy), basketball court, heat & hot water gas are included, no extra amenity fee, parking garage attached to building, extra storage for purchase in the lower level of building. The staff and front desk concierge, plus the maintenance people are extremely nice. The not so good things: the furnishings and lounge spaces are not upscale. They could be higher quality. The finishing inside the apartments are not high quality. They kick you out of the amenity spaces after 11PM. You are not allowed more than 2 guests per apartment to use the amenity spaces. The building manager - Keith - is condescending, not very attentive, patronizing, seems inauthentic, he doesn't handle people's concerns very well, lazy. Which - is not good to have a manager of the property to be that way. He won't resolve your issues in a timely manner and in general displays poor customer service (besides saying hello to you as you're walking by). I wouls love to find a building in the area that is more well finished - as the customer service of ALL personnel and quick resolution to solving your issues are important. And the restrictions on use of amenity spaces by your own guests (i.e. even family that comes) plus curfews set on the spaces doesn't feel like "home" to me. It feels like extended college. Terrific place to live. The amenities are great, especially the gym & basketball court. The doorman and staff are super friendly and responsive as well. The apartment is super close to many different subway lines so getting in and out of Manhattan is pretty easy. I'm shocked at the negative reviews on this building. Having lived in NYC for 14 years now, this has been one of the nicest experiences I've had. The amenities are well-maintained and well-designed to be usable and not just pretty. Amazing rooftop grill cabanas. The gym is legitimately nice--never a wait for the equipment, lots of free weights, and even a squat rack and smith machine (which I've NEVER seen in a residential building). In previous buildings with amenities of this caliber, I've had to pay $60-$100 per resident per month--and this is all included in your rent. The doormen are also professional and responsible. Unlike other buildings I've lived in, there seems to be very low turnover of staff--they know every resident's face and stops anyone who they don't recognize. Do they all have photographic memories? Things are fixed very promptly, trash seems to vanish from the refuse room multiple times a day, and overall very very well maintained. The neighborhood is surprisingly convenient as someone who's always lived in Manhattan. It's close to the EM, 7, G, and NR, making it easy to get anywhere even more easily than when I lived in Midtown. East side, west side, Williamsburg--easy peasy. I honestly wouldn't know how the team could improve my experience here--it's been a dream living here for the past year and hoping to enjoy many more. A huge apartment in LIC with more than 1,000 units and that's exactly the reason why there is an absurd amount of footage dedicated to amenities such as a duplex gym (including a full-size basketball court), 6 grill cabana areas, and numerous indoor lounges (just found another one by my apartment unit!) and outdoor roof decks. A new dry cleaner just opened up a few days ago inside the building as well. I can wish for a better food/cafe scene around the neighborhood, but is understandable given that LIC is under massive development. I still have my burger/chinese/pho covered in the vicinity though. In any case, there's a large supermarket Foodcellar right in front of the apartment (literally steps away) where you can get hot food or groceries. Vernon Blvd. which is pretty much downtown LIC is less than 10 minutes walk away and you can get pretty much any food you'd like as well. Less than 5 minute walk to 7/E/M/G/N/Q/R, so you can get pretty much anywhere really quick, which somewhat compensates for the dearth of restaurants etc... around the area. Do yourself a favor and do NOT live here! The rooms are small considering its price and neighborhood. The leasing office is rude. That Marcina, my god, could she be even meaner? Her condescending, rude, and unhelpful attitude could be the sole reason to ruin the whole experience. It's as if we're begging her to rent the room and help us. She doesn't even want to hide her rudeness. Once I point it out she even stopped replying. Honestly, rockrose, hits someone else! They take forever to give you your deposit back, two weeks already and I still haven't got a helpful email back. The amenities look good on their website but when I moved in lots of them were not even opened yet! Besides, they're all closed after 10/11pm except for the gym. Elevators kept breaking down, enjoy walking down through staircase from 30+ floor in the morning. The staff mostly serve a purpose of monitoring you. You're more of a prisoner than a customer here. The front desk are mostly friendly and helpful except one of them who's always a bit serious and make some sexist comment like won't give you your package if you don't smile (and he won't say the same thing to men of course). They did try to entertain us like decorating the lobby during holiday and holding movies screening which is why I gave 2 Star instead of 1. Maybe you had a great experience living here( being fortunate enough to not have to talk to Marcina or have very strong legs), but that doesn't disqualify those who didn't enjoy living here their opinions. read more

Worst rental building I've ever dealt with, the leasing office ripped me off $170 application fees while I ended up being forced to withdraw my application due to their failure to keep their promises communicated to me verbally before I applied. This is a long due review for this fraudulent building, or at least their fraudulent leasing office. It happened last year and I was looking for a studio to rent. A woman named Marcina at their leasing showed me a studio and I liked it, and I was honest with her I was looking for a shorter term than one year as I might be moving in about 6 months. As this is a new building I asked her if there is any deal or arrangement I could take given my situation. She told me she could add a break clause in the contract since I told her beforehand and if I break the lease within one year I'll just lose one month's rent. Given they were offering one month rent for free at that time, she said it's a good deal and worse scenario I would just lose that free month rent. Below were the details she offered verbally: 13 month lease / 2nd month free / 60-day break clause - 1 month penalty / A guaranteed minimum stay of 6 months I was pretty happy with the arrangement, so I thanked her and applied the next day immediately, with all the detailed docs they required for myself and my roommate. Marcina asked me to pay $170 for two people's applications, and wire transfer $5200 for deposit. I did everything as she told me asap as I need to move in shortly since my other lease was expiring. Then I received electronic rental contract to sign, normally I would not read details anymore but I wanted to make sure what we agreed upon was in the contract so I read it carefully. And guess what, IT CHANGED WITHOUT EVEN INFORMING ME! It did mention a break clause with 1 month rent penalty, but instead of 2nd month free, they shadily changed it to '13th month free'. I made it very clear from the beginning I was going to break the lease after 6 months so of course I won't be able to get a 13th month free! I was really mad so I called Marcina immediately, I could never reach her on the phone anymore and the assistant just told me to send her email and she will email me back. I emailed her multiple messages asking her to clarify. And when she finally responded, she of course denied what she told me before, and said below were the only two options: 1. 13 month lease - 2nd month free / NO break Clause 2. 13 month lease - 13th month free/60 Day break clause -1 month penalty I confronted her this was not what I was offered before I made the decision to apply, she simply said that were the only two options the landlord could offer. I was furious and asked for refund, she said they will refund the $5200 deposit but the $170 application fee is non refundable. What a BS! I tried to contact the landlord Rockrose but could not reach any decision makers and got pushed around. Really disgusting! I didn't want to waste my time anymore so had to let go the $170. Btw it also took FOREVER for me to get the $5200 back as they had to go through complicated bureaucratic procedures and mail me a freaking check months later! I would not give even one star based on my experience of this building. You've been warned! read more

Just stay away. I lived in a one bedroom apartment here for three years and upon moving out was charged almost a thousand dollars for a small wear and tear scratch on the stove and a bent blind. I now have to sue them in small claims court to try and reclaim my security deposit. Their reasoning was, 'they are custom blinds'. They are basic one bedroom apartment blinds I could buy at Walmart for fifty dollars but yet am being charged close to a thousand dollars. For those reading this living there now, DO NOT TIP THE DOORMEN OR STAFF. It doesn't make any sense because at the end of the day you will need that money to recoup the funds they will hold from your security deposit. I could also talk about how when we first moved in we were sold on the grills being free and then a year into it they decide they are going to renege on that agreement and start charging fifty dollars to use the grill. Overall ok experience. I would not, however, recommend the facility. I lived there for a year and left due to the Coronavirus. The highlight had to be the top-notch front desk personnel. The building and rooms were also nice and new, and offered multiple amenities (which are now all closed indefinitely for health concerns). The biggest problem I had was my security deposit. They took $444 off for some minor floor scratches and a scrape on the refrigerator door I didn't notice on the initial walk-through (currently in dispute). This represented nearly half of my $1,000 deposit and is a real shame after forking over nearly $36,000 in rent over the last year. Their floor boards are cheap garbage, and they damage extremely easily. My guess is the floor repairs are a profit center for them and they're nickel and diming guests who leave to claw back anything they can get as people leave the city in search of a better life. This experience left a really bad taste in my mouth needless to say. I was also not comfortable for most of the winter because their AC units are basically outside, and will not turn on in temperatures below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. So the room was a good 10 degrees hotter than I'd prefer and that wasn't ideal. I would bump this review up and recommend the property to friends and family if it weren't for their handling of the security deposit. If you decide to live here, make sure you nit-pick the heck out of the walk-through which (admittedly) I rushed through. Live and learn. read more

New building opening up this summer in LIC. Just moved in and really happy with the quality of the construction, including some nice non-Manhattan touches like an actual garbage disposal. One tip -- make sure to use a current tenant for a referral (they don't really advertise this, but you get a pretty substantial rent credit). Been here a month now! You simply won't get a place this nice for this price in Manhattan. Maybe in Williamsburg, but LIC is great because there is much less foot traffic. We have a spacious one bedroom unit with lots of storage space, washer and dryer in unit, a garbage disposal, good appliances and AC, and a walk in closet. Court Square subway station is across the street and Queensboro Plaza is a couple minutes walk, offering short commutes into manhattan and brooklyn, and easy transfer of the lines. There is also an affordable grocery store across the street, and several pharmacies are a walk or a subway stop away. The building has a 2 story gym with every essential work out machine and cardio machines, a basketball gym, yoga rooms, study lounges, a movie room, dry-cleaning services and 2 rooftop decks with seating, great views, a lawn, and bbqs. We have a great view of the neighborhood from the 10th floor and can see the Chrysler building from our bedroom! We have no pets yet, but the building is very pet friendly. The building's front desk is very courteous and helpful. They will always call you up when you have a visitor. The building uses an iPhone app called building link to notify you of packages, and for you to request maintenance. The app also has a very handy marketplace feature where you can buy furniture from/sell furniture to other people in the building. read more
