This museum opened in the former Bauhaus Museum on Theaterplatz on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Weimar Republic in 2019.
The permanent exhibition tells the story of the Weimar Republic, established in the German National Theater across the square. The exhibition is nicely done ( and involves many interactive elements and historical artifacts).
It's probably too dense for kids but they might enjoy the section on the Roaring or "Golden" Twenties.
The exhibition also illustrates the crises and challenges which the young democracy faced-- and raises interesting questions for the current era.
The museum is largely back to Pre-COVID operation but follows state and federal guidelines (masks required, etc). read more
