Hathaway removed two trees for my neighbor across the street. My complaint is that they used my driveway to park in. I wouldn't have minded if they had just used it to turn around or back up but they parked vehicles in it (see photos). The red truck blocked the bottom of my driveway during a time that I was expecting piano students who have been instructed to park in my driveway. I can't believe how disrespectful Hathaway is of other people's property! I especially can't believe that the red truck parked so that he blocked my entire driveway instead of just parking normally like their gray truck did. read more

I called Hathaway Tree Service to see if they could help out in Cedar Rapids, Iowa after a brutal storm there last week that toppled thousands of trees - 40 in our one yard alone. They weren't able to take their crews off current jobs, but they located a crew in northern Iowa and got them dispatched. Hathaway's follow up was spectacular. I just had several good-sized trees removed, and I was extremely impressed and pleased with the work. The workers were courteous, informative and efficient. Not long after the workers left, a huge truck pulled up and took all of the debris away--and literally left no evidence that there had been a huge pile of logs and branches. They even picked up piles of branches that I had already stacked up stacked in my yard before they came to do the tree removal. I would definitely hire them again! read more

BEWARE! We hired Hathaway Tree Service to remove one tree and trim another in June 2012. Despite it taking two phone calls inquiring when they would return and finish the job, they got it done...we sat with an unground tree stump in our yard for several weeks in the meantime, but it could be worse....and we would soon find out how MUCH worse! The next thing that happened was our bill was not reflective of the verbal quote we were given (which, as I might add, was still higher than other quotes, but because there are distant family ties to the owner of Hathaway, we went with them). We chose to let the misquote go because frankly, there are bigger worries going on in life. To be fair to Hathaway, we did receive the bill shortly after the service and it was honestly overlooked/misplaced. We were never trying to avoid paying it, but with 3 little kids, grad school, work, and life in general....the bill was honestly an oversight and escaped the realms of our mind for nearly a whole year later. It was looked at upon receipt and then misplaced, never crossed our minds again. No reminders, no phone calls. An honest slip of the mind. Well well well---we were reminded of the overdue bill over ONE YEAR past the date of service, when we found Hathaway Tree Service's truck DUMPING debris in our yard one morning in June 2013...over one year past the date of service. My jaw dropped as I watched the boulevard be littered with tree branches and a big stump! I immediately took pictures of it as it was a "see it to believe it" story. Never mind Hathaway didn't have the decency to knock on the door to discuss, since sending a reminder bill or phone call was apparently too much work....no, they take it to the next level by returning debris to your yard if you have a simply overlooked bill. We unfortunately had to get a sheriff deputy involved, and the owner, Rick, was very untruthful with the deputy by stating he had "several" conversations, messages, etc with us stating that the next step was going to be dumping debris in our yard. THAT IS SIMPLY UNTRUE. We offered our phone records to prove that there had been NO attempt to phone us, no messages left. There were also NO bills received aside from initially....at least 9 months ago. Interestingly, the owner reported to the deputy that this was his means of collecting overdue bills---by ILLEGALLY DUMPING debris in people's yard??!! REALLY? The deputy acknowledged this practice of collecting bills is indeed illegal, you cannot just dump someone elses tree waste in another person's yard. And if I hadn't been home to see exactly who did it---how does that go about getting a bill resolved? No explanation letter, nothing. It honestly wouldn't have crossed my mind that a BUSINESS would do this to a homeowner and we would have had no idea what the intentions behind the boulevard full of junk signified. Yet, this is standard business practice for Hathaway and he reported to the deputy he has done it in the past. I recommend Logan's Tree Service if you're looking for courteous, honest care. STEER CLEAR OF HATHAWAY'S TREE SERVICE! I would hate for anyone else to have the same experience we had. read more

I called to make an appointment to have 3 trees trimmed in my backyard. I initially called their office and I told the woman that answered where I lived and the circumstances. She made an appointment for me to meet with Rick at 4PM. I came home early today to meet him. At 4:30 I decided to call them back to see if they were still coming today. I spoke with Rick and he couldn't have been more rude. What an unprofessional jerk. I told him I made an appointment at 4 and it's now 4:30. He responded by saying I can still come today. When I told him where I lived, he told me he doesn't go there. I tried to explain to him that I had setup up an appointment. He then told me that I didn't set it up with him. Which is true, but that doesn't change the fact I setup an appointment with his company. He then told me that he called numerous times and left a message because he doesn't do those kinds of jobs. I never received one and tried to explain that to him. He was completely rude and inconsiderate. I am completely baffled he can stay in business with that kind of demeanor. The search continues for a tree trimmer. read more
