The space is smallish and seems to have fewer books and periodicals than most. There is some interesting art memorializing local writers, the quiet reading room is great! Parking was a problem, we had to park down the street and walk to the library. There are only a couple handicap spaces, so good luck with that. I expected more for some reason, it's a bit of a disappointment as the county libraries go for materials and resources in general.

omg omg omg omg omg omg im screaming!!! did i enter library heaven or what?!??…read more this library is a little hard to access because theres another parking lot next to this library and if you go there accidentally, its not connected to the librarys parking so you have to do a full 360 and enter this place. If you think the parking is weird, wait until you get inside, I don't know who designed this place but the layout of it is comparable to a greek labyrinth. Its so weird and kind of oddly built. As soon as you walk in its just stairs and an elevator, which goes up to the "second floor. That second floor is the actual main floor complete with a childrens/teen section. They have a reading nook here as well. Before you enter the library, on the outside theres 2 community meeting halls which you can hold meetings in. This floor also has a lot of books, and dvd collections. Now coming to my favorite part- you have to walk from the "second floor" up the magical stairs to a studying paradise. I decided to do a mini walk through of this floor since I'd never been there before and this place was everything i ever dreamed a library would be, i had to shed a tear because my happiness overwhelmed me! Theres desks and desks and desks sprawled over the entire place and comparmentalized based on need. When you first walk in, off to the side near the bathrooms theres a "teen area" where i saw a lot of high schoolers working after school and this place was next to the computers and a mini lobby area, which is meant for light conversations. They have a chess board here as well. The entire rest of the floor is filled with desks and although not all have outlets, the ones that do are specified, they are perfect for some serious studying. The absolute best part of this floor is the enormous quiet zone at the very back of the library. when they mean quiet zone, they MEAN quiet zone, not even a whisper and the view overlooks target. Some of the desks near the walls have outlets, but not the ones in the middle. they also have cell phone chargers. this place was heaven for me because it created the perfect atmosphere for serious, buckle down, cramming studying. and being around others who were busy doing their work really gets you into the zone as well. no one was "playing around or sleeping here". they were very courteous to take all their phone calls outside too. overall this quiet zone is everything i could dream of, someone pinch me! they also have individual study rooms but only a couple. the only downside is the really old bathrooms and the actual librarians are the only ones talking here, and obviously the weird layout. other than that i can't find anything to criticize. this place also has the longest hours i've seen compared to other libraries, 9-9 Mon to Thurs. The picture on one of the other reviews holds true about the long hours.

Then, you have to climb stairs to get to the library action. However, once up there, it is a pretty big library and we like their kids section, too. There are just enough books to choose from and there is a pretty good play space for the kids to burn calories while you hunt for books. We find the staff to be helpful as well. Note - I just saw something that this location may be closing soon for a major construction/rebuild project, so if true, you may have to head to the Grandview location.

I signed up for a library card for my family as we are library kids and library grown ups as Mychal from TikTok said. We also wanted to support this library in our new community. It was nice. The young lady who enrolled me was great. Her manager was kind of rushing her which I didn't like. Her colleagues or the manager could have taken the other customers but they didn't. My only yelp is the americorp worker. She said she'd watch my child while I changed my other daughter. As soon as I was out of eyesight, the worker did other tasks which is negligent. With all the trafficking in MN, you'd think people especially library staff would be more vigilant of their library kids. But they're slacking in that department. Get it together. The library has been renovated significantly since I used to be an AmeriCorps volunteer 10+ years ago. It's been redesigned with the new needs of the community in mind. There are small group rooms that are usually available to check out for two hours. There is a large community room for nonprofit groups to use. It can get loud in the afternoons after school lets out and all the kids come in. It ranges from chatty teenagers, to video game playing boys, to shrieking toddlers. I'm pretty tolerant of it because libraries are no longer places of perfect silence -- now they are centers for the community to convene and for people to get resources. However, they do have a silent room for those who want that tranquility. The librarians are pretty cool. They do their job and so much more. They also function as aunties and uncles to the kids -- they can be encouraging, patient, kind, and sometimes firm -- when the kids need to behave. They have cool classes available. I took a half-day microsoft excel class there from a young americorps technology volunteer. I'd recommend you visit the library to see all the options. Also, their Lucky Day DVD collection is pretty competitive with the latest Red Box rental options. Here I was wasting $3 on a renting the latest dvd when I could've just gotten it free. I wish they had an earlier start time. I've wasted time because I forgot they don't open til 10am or in one case -- they closed for staff training. But hey.

Their children's section is great, with seating and windows so you can read with your family. I spent so many hours just browsing through and reading books there as a kid, and with the new renovations they're even better. There are plenty of computer workstations to use if you need to work someplace. There's a lovely windowed quiet study area so you can really focus while enjoying the atmosphere of the library. There is an outdoor patio which is useful in the warmer months. There's a playground just outside for kids to burn off energy after reading a while, too, which was great when I was growing up! There is plenty of music selection and book selection too, as well as community events.
