The monument only covers those given the award from the Civil War through the Vietnam War. It honors those that "while serving in the Armed Forces distinguished themselves for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty while engage in action against an enemy of the United States." This is a very exclusive group with only a few thousand members throughout its history. The monument consists of a bronze sculpture of an eagle soaring with its right wing down and a series of stone pedestals with 2 bronze plaques on them in a circular formation around the eagle. Each of the pedestals honor 2 recipients, 1 plaque per recipient. The plaques have a photo of the honoree engraved on it above a brief narrative about the person. One plaque is dedicated to explaining what the Medal of Honor is. The monument honors about 20 recipients in total. We posted events in LRRCofC calendar for 9 months. We never had a single attendee from LRRCofC attend any of those events. We never got a single inquiry about our services. We did get numerous unwelcome solicitations. Since moving to Little Rock from out of state we have had exactly one client in the state of Arkansas. Yhat client was NOT connected to LRRCofC. Our calendar is filled with events for clients that pay us to travel from Arakansas, but nothing locally. We have had much better success in other cities CofC. One little clue to this Chamber's myopia is while they have a multi-million dollar facility at a prime location in Little Rock, the fountain at their front door has not been maintained for the past three years. Tourists, visitors to the Convention Center across the street, and those using the Trolley stop on their corner are exposed to the stench and trash in the fountain. Clearly, LRRCof C does not care about citizens of Little Rock or small businesses and advocates only for further enrichment of the rich and powerful. This is clear from the advocacy statement opposing unionization and corporate taxation on their website and their recent actions in securing tax breaks and land for unscrupulous corporations. We regret having paid into an organization overplays its effectiveness to small business and purports to support its region, but actually works to further exploit its people.

Could you imagine a state paying for a confederate monument today. The backlash would be crazy. The monument was designed by J. Otto Schweizer and was dedicated in 1913. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. It has also been referred to as "Mother of the South". The monument consists of a sculpture on top of a 12 foot high base with a large bronze plaque on the front of it that reads: To The Confederate Women Of Arkansas 1861-1865 "Whose Pious Ministrations To Our Wounded Soldiers Soothed The Last Hours Of Those Who Died For The Object Of Their Tenderest Love; Whose Domestic Labors Contributed Much To Supply The Wants Of Our Defenders In The Field; Whose Jealous Faith In Our Cause Shone A Guiding Star, Undimmed By The Darkest Clouds Of War; Whose Fortitude Sustained Them Under All The Privations To Which They Were Subjected; And Whose Patriotism Will Teach Their Sons To Emulate The Deeds Of Their Sires." This Monument Is Erected By The State Of Arkansas And The Confederate Veterans The bronze statue stands aboutt 7 feet tall and depicts a woman sitting in a chair flanked by a young boy with a drum on her right and a young girl resting her head on the woman's shoulder. The woman is shaking the handing of a confederate soldier that is standing in front of her and holding a hat in his left hand. It is meant to show a mother saying goodbye to an older son who is going to fight for the Confederacy. The statue is a bit weathered but considering that it is over 100 years old, I think it looks great. There is metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance from here. It is the work of Frederick Ruckstuhl and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. This controversial piece was intended to honor the Arkansas men who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. Now a days Confederate monuments across the country have become controversial and many have been removed. This one however, has managed to fly below the radar thus far. The monument was funded through a combined effort by the State, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Arkansas Gazette, United Confederate Veterans (UCV), and Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV). The Monument was originally located on a knoll near the east entrance of the Capitol building, but was moved to its current location in 1911. The monument has many levels and parts to it. At its top, you will see a 12-foot bronze angel holding a wreath. There is an 8-foot bronze confederate soldier carrying a furled flag on the level below the angel. The solider is standing on a bell-shaped base and the angles base is 19-feet tall. The front side of the base that the solider is perched on is inscribed CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS OF ARKANSAS 1861 - 1865." The left side of the monument is inscribed "OUR FURLED BANNER WREATHED WITH GLORY AND THOUGH CONQUERED WE ADORE IT WEEP FOR THOSE WHO FELL BEFORE IT PARDON THOSE WHO TRAILED AND TORE IT." The right side of the monument is inscribed "ARKANSAS REMEMBERS THE FAITHFULNESS OF HER SONS AND COMMENDS THEIR EXAMPLE TO FUTURE GENERATIONS." The back side is carved with the Confederate states' logo and inscribed "THE CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA FEB 1862 DEO VINDICE." (The last is a Latin phrase meaning "with God as our protector.") The monument is in pretty good shape, considering it is over 100 years old. Who knows if or when this monument will be removed. As it stands now though, it is worth a visit, if for anything its historical significance and art work. There is metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance from here.
