(this is a long comment, but it covers many church subjects that new people are concerned with) You will never find the "PERFECT Church" that satisfies your every desire. Period. I've been a follower of Christ for 33 years and attended many churches. Even the church I currently attend has flaws and unChristian behavior by attendees that would cause many people to walk away in anger. But through it all, Christ has used my church setting to teach me to "keep my eyes on Jesus Christ". That is, keep looking up and not at eye level. Again, it is necessary to remind everyone that you will NEVER find the perfect church. Be in prayer about all aspects when searching for a church home. But THEE most important issue always is "Does the teaching come straight and only from the Bible?" 107.9 KWVE has Bible teaching almost 24/7. If you don't already tune in, do. You will get many different pastor personalities all in agreement with teaching the Bible literally. As you learn about the Bible and who Christ is, your heart will begin to soften and you will have all new requirements for the church you are looking for. You will also see that every Bible teaching, Christ-trusting church is different and yet the same. I'm going to say it again: Overlook the issues that arouse anger and frustration upon your FIRST visit, BECAUSE THAT IS OF SATAN! He does not want you to go to church, right? He will make you angry enough so you don't return. If you see an issue that you can't live with, speak to the pastor (usually after service) and he will be happy to hear about it. He is the only one to address your issue. He may not be aware of it and he can set you at ease with the reason. Does that church teach the Bible literally! Are they teaching Jesus Christ only? Are they teaching your children about Jesus? How do YOUR children like the Sunday school? And that is where your children are meant to be, not in "big people" church. They will enjoy Sunday School much more than being forced to sit still and quietly in adult church. The children's church teachers LOVE kids and your kids are free to be themselves. Hypocrites: According to statistics, only 8% of ALL Bible church attenders today are ACTUALLY Jesus followers - born again Christians. That's VERY hard to believe! Until you get to know the other 92%. They are sitting right next to you. That is the reason we good-willed, REAL Christians will be attacked on Bible issues and our REAL Christian behavior. The hypocrites blend in by carrying BIG Bibles and they act/pretend wonderfully on Sundays. They raise their hands, sing loudly, and say "Praise the Lord". But if you knew their family life, you'd gag! Always keep this is in mind when dealing with "church people" and you decrease your chances of being hurt for your biblical actions. The ones I've met were more hateful, mean and nasty than atheists. Yet, the Bible says not to forsake the assembling together with the body of Christ. We need each other. If you are a dedicated Christ-follower, they need YOU! Paul wrote the Corinthian letters to church hypocrites. He didn't tell the true believers to get out of that church in a hurry. That's why I say, keep looking up at Jesus Christ and pray for those hypocrites. There isn't a church today, as in Paul's day, that is without them. Some people look for a church, based upon denomination, or others look for their idea of what a church should be like (its all about me!) I'm going to type this in all caps: SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD (seek Jesus in the church) AND ALL THESE THINGS (all your requirements) WILL BE ADDED UNTO YOU. Search for Christ in the church, NOT the church in Christ. About BIG churches: Can you imagine a sports stadium without rules? These churches are dealing with CROWDS. They MUST have a way of keeping order and peace. Have you ever attended a church service with children acting up the entire message? It's very rude on the parent's part WHEN the church has provided an appropriate, safe environment for their little ones. When my grandson visits, we always take him to our BIG church. I miss him when he is in Sunday School - yes I do. BUT, please listen to this - he is learning about Jesus on a child's level and so I put my "feelings" aside because it is more important for him to learn about Christ than about me missing him. Some big churches set aside rows in the very back for families' esp., mom's with infants. It keeps the distractions down. If you are going to a new church by yourself, it always helps to have a Christian friend go with you. It helps you feel relaxed and they can give you their feedback. Calvary Chapels are strictly Bible teaching churches with the mission statement that God is 3 separate persons, Jesus Christ died and arose for our sins and he is the only way. This church gave a ton of support to Steven Robillard when he ran for Riverside City Council. He won, and has been probably one of the worst - most corrupt - representatives we've ever suffered with. He directed COVID funds to employ private security for the Brockton Arcade to help out a business he frequents but absolutely will not help citizens dealing with emergencies. Case in point - we needed emergency assistance from the City for a problem that was posing a major safety hazard to my family and neighborhood and were getting nowhere dealing with City Hall. Steven's office remains unreachable, and he's even read a message about the brutally tragic impact his refusal to act has caused; he just read and ignored it but happily goes on promoting himself on social media while we deal with a tragedy that could've been prevented if he had lead with Christian values. Insane for a church to support a man who would rather let living beings suffer and die because he's too busy making deals to respond to the people he's supposed to represent. My wife and I have attended Harvest because , first of all, it's very close to our house, Second of all, we really like our pastor Greg Laurie, and thirdly, the band is fantastic. Greg preaches like Billy Graham with passion and humor, tells it like it is, Biblically, which a lot of people don't want to hear, and have friendly people to help you on your Godly path. Drawbacks would have to be, that it IS very large, so you can meet with the Associate pastors, but Greg is VERY unaccessable. I do like to be able to talk to the pastors that I hear in church and I miss Vermont's BEFC Barre church for that. You do have to get into the smaller groups that the church has for closer, meaningful connections with God's word otherwise. I support the Crusades the church has every year and I was also baptized there in the upper campus pools. I wish Greg was more available but I guess that is the only thing that stops this church here in Riverside from getting the 5th star from my wife and I. read more

The SENIOR pastor here at the church is very rude to talk to, I was talking to him over the phone about a concern I had, this man did not let me tell him what my concerns were he interrupted me many times as I was trying to explain my concern and then proceeded to yell at me instead when I was telling him that if he can stop interrupting me so I can finish my sentence he got frustrated with me and told me not to come back to the church, I am a 24 year old WOMAN trying to find God and as a SENIOR PASTOR I would assume you would treat other people with respect especially people that are new believers I'm very disappointed in this church for the way I got treated especially by the SENIOR PASTOR he didn't even apologize to me for rudely interrupting or yelling at me or even try to be a peacemaker instead he let the devil take a foothold in his heart and told me not to come back to the church, very very disappointed and will not be coming back #Pastorscanbebullies read more

we could not believe our ears when they refused to share church finances with us as members. we were told, "we have to have faith in our leaders, and they will have to answer to the lord". only a TV evangelist can get away with such a preposterous explanation. this is how they get rich off the backs of those that think they are really giving to God. this must be in an attempt to hide really high salaries, etc. etc.. we drove from Newport beach to get away from all that. to make matters worse this church acknowledges they do nothing to serve their immediate community--not even the poor. One must wonder where it all goes. I have been attending Harvest Christian Fellowship Church in Riverside, CA for many years. I can attest to the fact that they are a Bible Based church and that it is filled with the Holy Spirit. Pastor Greg and his wife and Son are wonderful people of God. Recently, as many of you know one of his son's got killed in a car accident and the manner in which Pastor Greg and his family set an example of true Christian Faith and of their lives being filled with God. No matter how early you arrive, all seats in the front section of rows will be saved with bibles, pamphlets, etc. you end up having to go the back no matter what time you arrive- went to use the restroom and was told I couldn't return to my seat because I would get in the way of the cameras- This place of worship has become too Hollywood! One word: misogyny. Only went to this church once and I happened to go when they were having a sermon on "the role of women in marriage" or something like that. Very textbook sexism disguised as the word of God, wives obey your husbands, that type of thing. I will pray that God guides them towards a less discriminatory path. read more

Harvest is an amazing church. Pastor Greg's book "Lost Boy" is a must so you can really see how Greg came to Christ. He is the real deal and very transparent. The Holy Spirit is Alive and well here and everyone is welcome...young, old, rich, poor, any ethnicity...just like I imagine heaven is. read more

I've been to numerous churches and listened to numerous preachers. None of them compare to the Pastoral staff of Harvest. The bible based teaching is unsurpassed and the people that are in ministry there are always ready to lend a helping hand. I could not imagine going anywhere else. read more

Great, friendly, safe, and most importantly, biblical. Kinda crowded, but only on Sunday mornings. Most other Bible studies and events are small and you get to know people easily. I've formed the best friendships of my life here and learned so much about the Bible. read more

Harvest allows tattooing and piercing in the church which is contrary to the bible. They don't believe in the spiritual gifts. A good church for the "cool' and "hip", but not for serious mature Christians. read more
