As lifelong Floridians who had somehow never visited Tallahassee, this was the perfect stop. The park is peaceful, walkable, and surrounded by cute local shops and a coffee café. We loved seeing people enjoying the park, relaxing on benches, and musicians playing nearby. The geese definitely stole the show! There are lots of geese and ducks, so be prepared for... plenty of goose poop. Watching a flock of geese cross the road was an experience all by itself. If you're passing through Tallahassee, Lake Ella Park is a great place to take a break, enjoy a stroll, and support a few local businesses.

The only downside is that there are only five parking spaces plus one space for someone who is disabled. It gets very crowded as a result, and some of the horse people don't like the people who aren't there for horseback riding to be there because those cars sometimes have to park along the fence or in the grass. There is confusion over if this specifically an equestrian park or a multi-use park, and I have had an unkind note left on my windshield as a result (I was not parked in the horse trailers only section but rather along the fence). I appreciate that they have a port-o-potty at the park, though I would suggest bringing your own hand sanitizer since I've rarely seen any sanitizer in the container provided. It is regularly serviced, though, and very clean with toilet paper.

So during the day it's not always quiet, but the night I was there was quiet. I would recommend running the water first because it hadn't been run in a while and I had black stuff coming out of my faucet. There was also a wasp nest in the power box so I had to take care of that. Also, the fire pit was filled with about a 3 inch layer of ash that I cleaned out before I made my first fire. There's a guy's phone number on the kiosk that you can call for firewood. He's not affiliated with the park but will bring a bundle for seven dollars plus a delivery fee. There isn't a dedicated hose for black water tank flushing, so I hooked up my own (luckily brand new) hose to the potable water faucet. It would be much better and recommended to have a separate spigot for black water flush hoses. The sunset was beautiful and it seems the fishing is good although I didn't fish. The site had a picnic table, and the firepit has a grate for cooking albeit rusty. I had my grilling supplies and got some of the flakes off. The bathrooms were also big and clean. There is no camp host here FYI. Just pull in and park.

Facilities consist of a simple parking area, a small area designated for horse trailer parking, 2 old wood picnic tables that have seen better days and a little signage. There are no bathroom facilities. The draw here would be the trails which go north all the way to the northernmost boundary of the property at US 27S. I'll leave it to the hikers, bikers or horse riders to rate this park for the value of the trails. For this more sedentary user there wasn't anything worthwhile. I am glad they preserved a major section of the St. Marks River area for us. If you look this park up on the Florida State Parks website it is called St. Marks River Preserve State Park even though their sign at the park doesn't say that.
