Gosh, did I really do this? Settled for a chain fish&chips stall in a shopping mall (albeit a designer outlet)? So help me I did, because I can't resist the lure of a chippie and this one was beckoning, it was lunchtime, and it had been 5 hours since breakfast. But it hit the spot and satisfied the cravings. I had a large cod fillet (you can also choose haddock, too), battered and crispy, hot, moist flaky fish inside, accompanied by plenty of chips - fries - that weren't quite as crunchy as we like it in the States, but a bit soft, just the way the Brits prefer it. And I had the mushy peas, too. The Harry Ramsden's chain provides a decent and affordable fish and chips, and although it no longer comes in the classic newspaper wrapper (it has an ersatz plastic one instead), it was nevertheless a convenient, affordable and satisfying quick-service meal.
