Update: (1) My review, nor the two before it, were not directed at the quality of products sold by this store and I would never claim to have knowledge of that. (2) The three comments to date, all addressed the INDIVIDUAL store's marketing of a particular issue of a specific periodical. I wanted to be clear with current and potential customers that my comments have nothing to do with the quality of products sold at this store, rather my comments were and are directed at the store's (and perhaps only one employee's) actions and therefore, reflection of an attitude, toward certain human beings. Lastly, I changed my rating from 1 star to 3 solely due to the public statements made by Roger Collins, CEO and Kim Eskew, President and COO who stated that "Harps has never and would never discriminate" and "...when brought to our attention, we reversed." I still believe the management should have a greater understanding of the operations of their individual stores, but give these senior managers credit for their concern and actions.
Initial Comment:
As a Republican, I believe I have to grant the people who shop on at Harps on Main Street in Mountain View, AR every right to do what they want in their own little town of less than 3,000 people. However, as a believer in social equality for EVERYONE, I am appalled and dumb-founded that something like this still occurs anywhere in the United States of America. I don't know where this thought of mine ever came from, but it has actually occurred to me that it would be wonderful to be a child of Elton John. Has his music and its meaning, his graciousness, his friendships with some of the most compassionate and philanthropic public figures of the world, not to mention, well...really anyone on this earth, not demostrated incredible values? To gays in Mountain View, AR, hang in there and please know you are valuable in this world. To those condemning them, I pray your children do not feel worthless or (and this is not meant as an over-exageration) victims of a population highly susceptible to suicide. read more
