I've been going to PVPC for years with multiple pets (cats & dogs) and they probably have the best…read morevets and staff in Prescott Valley...BUT over the past year or so at some point the office got an air freshener or something and the entire building wreaks of perfume. And my dog is allergic to it. I can't stand breathing it, smelling it, or having to wash it off of me when I get home. This perfume sticks to you and your pets. The last time I was there I had my cat and I had to give her a wiping down with peroxide four times to get the perfume out of her fur. The last two times I was there with my dog she started sneezing/coughing/sniffling and getting really itchy on the ride home and it continued at home until I could give her a bath with peroxide. And then another bath, and another. It usually take 3 or 4 baths before the perfume is pretty much gone. I have to take a shower and wash my hair with peroxide to get the perfume off of myself and out of my hair. I have to change clothes as soon as I get home because the perfume transfers to everything like furniture and pets if I hold them or they are on my lap. It's horrible and it's a huge ordeal to go through each time so I will stop going there and find another vet that doesn't have perfume. Many of the businesses in the area have perfumes now for some reason so I don't know if I'll be able to find a vet that is perfume free. I've already tried one other vet and they also had bad perfume. None of these places admit to having a perfume and all deny its existence. I can only theorize that people are "nose blind" to them and are desensitized to the perfumes. I live in a fragrance free home, so I can smell all the perfumes out there because I'm not nose blind to them. And these perfumes are toxic and unsafe. I get migraines and have asthma and the perfumes make things worse for me. As for the vet care, it's OK. But standards are so low in AZ that PVPC is actually the best in town and that's not saying much. But that was why I took my pets there for so many years.

After seeing other vets and being told it was just allergies, Dr. Darling immediately recognized from her years of experience that it was actually an autoimmune issue just by examining our dog's nose. That level of knowledge and expertise gave us answers we had been searching for for so long. Because of her accurate diagnosis, we now understand what's going on and know how to properly manage and treat it. The entire clinic has been incredibly kind, helpful, and compassionate throughout the whole process. They truly care about their patients and take the time to explain everything and make you feel supported. We're beyond thankful to have found such a knowledgeable and caring veterinary team. I have been in to Mile Hi FIVE times in the past two weeks. Once with a cherised companion whose…read moremass had to be removed and proved to be BENIGN, after they had performed surgery in another part of her body a few years ago for a different type of cancer. Last week I took one half of a bonded pair of elder Brussel Griffons in and he proved to have serious complications from bad teeth and was not a good surgery candidate. He suddenly passed away in my arms two days after that appointment. I am so glad the vet found what was wrong beforehand and I wasn't blindsided by his death. Today I called for his brother who had suddenly stopped eating and was lethargic and was given an appointment within TWENTY MINUTES. The poor little furry dustmop was dead when the tech tried to take him from the carrier. I can not say enough good things about the care myself and my dogs have received from Mile Hi. Although I wish there had been more years with the little guys, they are buried under the same tree and will have eternity together gamboling through the meadows. Every member of Mile Hi has been caring and wonderful for every visit I've had with them - good outcome or not so good outcome. And they have been easy on my wallet. I have used three other vet services in my 15+ years here in Prescott, and Mile Hi is the best by far.

I didn't understand why blood work was done when a complete work up was done 4 months ago. I had questions about the results. I've given my dog bone marrow treats and was wondering if it was still okay to give him one once in a while or if they might cause tooth damage. I asked about the anal glands and was told they were okay. Not sure what that meant, I was looking for a right/left empty/full answer. In the past I've been shown the dental x-rays along with before and after pictures of my dog's mouth. None of these were unavailable. Blood was left on my dog's arm that should have been cleaned off. Being a retired RVT and the amount of money I've spent on veterinary care I expected much better treatment from PAH and answers to my questions. It might be time to find a new Veterinary Practice.

We found ourselves needing emergency veterinary care at about 2:00 am in the morning while staying…read moreat our cabin in Strawberry when one of our dogs injured her leg and we suspected she had torn her CCL. As worried pet parents, it's incredibly stressful when something happens in the middle of the night, especially when you're away from home. The team at Yavapai Emergency Animal Hospital was wonderful. They were caring, compassionate, and took the time to evaluate our girl and make sure she was comfortable. Since we were only in the area temporarily, they provided pain medication to help keep her comfortable until we could get her back down to the Valley for follow-up care with our regular veterinarian. What really stood out to me was their follow-up and communication. They called the next day to check on her, and they promptly forwarded all of her records to both our regular veterinarian and the surgeon who will be performing her CCL surgery. Having that coordination already handled took a lot of stress off our shoulders during an already difficult time. I hope we never need emergency veterinary care again, but if we do while we're in the Prescott Valley area, I wouldn't hesitate to bring my pets here. Thank you for taking such good care of our pup during a stressful situation.

The other place carelessly handled Hidey and allowed her to launch out of the carrier into a glass door causing a broken tooth. After going to the pet emergency room that evening for immediate care we took her to Granite Mountain. They were fantastic and were very accommodating. Our cat needed emergency dental care which Dr. Bason was able to squeeze her into her busy schedule. Since Hidey was originally seen for a urinary tract infection, Dr. Bason also was able to treat that issue. The technicians went out of their way to help and make sure treatment was successful. Since that traumatic time, we have since taken our other 4 cats for treatment. The entire staff provides excellent and thoughtful service. I highly recommend this veterinary practice and will continue to take our cats here.

Today I once again called for a sick dog and was told they could work me in for an extra $60 charge in addition to the standard visit cost of $115. When I asked why they didn't do more to care for their existing clients with urgent needs and were charging more for those, I was told it's Dr Ford's policy and she didn't know what I wanted her to do about it. She then said "do you want the appointment or not". I informed her I will be moving my pets to a clinic that cares more about their clients, allows for same day visits and doesn't charge an extra fee for that service.

We were faced with an emergency while in Prescott this past Labor Day. Our recently rescued…read more3-year-old Czech shepherd, Marcus, suddenly developed bloody loose stools and vomiting. Fearing an intestinal blockage, we searched for a veterinary practice that was open. As the Prescott Area Pet Emergency Hospital had closed effective 6/15/20, we brought him Chino Valley Animal Hospital. Enter our guardian angel, office manager, 15-year employee and obviously dedicated animal lover, Renee. When a "meatball" laced with Acepromazine failed to adequately sedate him, Renee calmly and patiently sat with me and a crated Marcus, and over the space of more than 20 minutes and 3 syringes administered on on a pole through the slots in the crate, she was ultimately successful in getting Marcus sedated enough to be examined. Fortunately, X-rays revealed no blockage (though he ultimately expelled a number of plum pits from the tree on our property that no doubt irritated his intestinal tract) but Marcus was dehydrated from the vomiting and diarrhea and we wanted to be sure he was fully stabilized and hydrated before bringing him home. Renee stepped up again and agreed to care for our dog personally. She updated us on his condition later that day and informed us again the next day when it was deemed he had recovered enough to go home safely. Marcus is fully recovered. So grateful!

Grooming was not satisfactory. Called and they lied and said she was matted when I brought her in…read more I brush her regularly so was not matted. I could pull more hair off her when she got home. Refused to talk to me and make it right. My dog is a German Shepherd but has never been matted. Would not recommend this place any longer. I took her there a year ago and the girl did a great job. Never again after their attitude. I see ow they don't have a great BBB rating either. DONE!!!

It's Friday, January 30th as I write this - 9 days after Dr. Ferens and her assistant (whose name, I believe, was Anne) came into my mom's and my home to euthanize our dog, Buddha. At around 12:30 pm on Wednesday, January 21st, we heard a knock at the door and had no idea we were about to experience one of the most traumatic and compassionless 15 minutes (yes... only fifteen minutes from start to finish) of our lives. From the moment they arrived, everything was rushed. We had never met Dr. Ferens before. She quickly wrote down information, opened her briefcase with the medications, and asked my mother when she wanted to pay. My mother then paid. No questions, no checking in with us, no offer to spend time with Buddha. Just a transaction. There was no compassion, empathy, or humanity. Buddha ran to his bed where I was when he saw the stethoscope. He was scared and came to me. Dr. Ferens approached him from behind to muzzle him, and he growled. I explained that he growls but does not bite. She made no effort to warm up to him. No petting, no talking, nothing. What happened next was completely unethical. She asked me--not her assistant--to muzzle my own dog. I am not a vet. I was in shock and survival mode, incapable of consenting to something like this. I don't know if I will ever fully recover from that moment. It's been replaying in my head constantly since then. Around this time, Dr. Ferens snapped at her assistant, saying, "I told you to go over there." This happened right in front of us during one of the most vulnerable moments of our lives. The assistant, Anne, appeared to be walking on eggshells around the doctor the entire time. Anne, however, showed quiet compassion and cried when Buddha passed. The contrast between them was heartbreaking. After I muzzled Buddha, Dr. Ferens asked for a towel without explaining why, threw it over his head, and sedated him. She never explained how quickly it would happen. I asked if I could give him water, and she said, "yes, but the sedation will kick in soon," without explaining that "soon" meant less than a minute. I held the bowl as he desperately licked, trying to fight the sedation. His eyes closed, and he continued licking the floor before going unconscious. None of this was explained. At all. She administered the final injection shortly after, confirmed his heart had stopped, then they packed up, and left. Our experience with our other dog's euthanasia a year and a half earlier at Yavapai Emergency Animal Hospital was the complete opposite. You can even look through my reviews here and find it. That doctor (Dr. Page) gave us time, walked us through everything, and showed genuine care... in an EMERGENCY setting. He even waited until our other family members (including Buddha) arrived. Their compassion and care meant the world to us. You would think an at-home euthanasia would be peaceful. Even sacred. Well, we thought wrong. My mother and I are deeply traumatized. We were not given time or permission to say goodbye. Everything was rushed while we were vulnerable and confused. All we are left with now is regret. Regret for calling Visiting Vet Mobile Animal. Regret for how our final moments with our dog were handled. And regret that this experience has overshadowed our ability to grieve. I will be filing a complaint with the Arizona State Veterinary Medical Examining Board. It is also important to note that my partner was present via FaceTime for the duration of the appointment and witnessed the events as they occurred. This provides an additional, independent account of the experience. I am sad, angry, disgusted, and horrified. I don't see many negative reviews here. Maybe we caught Dr. Ferens on a bad day. Even so, there is no excuse for what happened. I truly hope no one else ever has to experience this. If this was simply a bad day for her, I hope she knows that her bad day will pass. But the day she caused us, because of the state she was in, is now permanently etched into our memories forever. Rest in paradise, Buddha. We love you.
