This place met a lot to me because my husband grew up in Fort Pierce. We were greeted by Barb who was so welcoming and friendly, and showed us the whole venue with all of the options we had. Not only did Barb take care of us that day, but she was always there for us answering questions throughout the whole process and even gave us another tour of the venue so my mother could see it. Jen, who was our month of and day of coordinator was nothing short of amazing as well, she made sure everything was perfect for the day of and made sure everything ran smoothly on our actual big day. Jen was so patient and kind and really took care of us. I also want to say thank you to Susana and Kyle for being there for us that weekend. Kyle took such good care of the grounds when we were there for the 3 days, and Susana was a huge help along side Jen...right before I walked down the isle Susana made sure I had everything I needed. This venue is absolutely STUNNING, and you can tell the staff loves what they do. Throughout the year we had them booked they made multiple upgrades to the venue including the ceremony spot which was breathtaking. Our guest had nothing but amazing things to say about The Lake House and also some of the vendors that they recommended to us. I wish I could relive our special day over and over again. I do not think I will be able to thank the staff enough for all that they did for us the year leading up to our wedding, and on our wedding weekend. I would 10/10 recommend this venue to anyone I know, and it always makes me happy to see all the couples after me who get to spend their special day there. With the help of Dawn (Serene Events), and Erin and Joe, The indoor venue was even more beautiful and romantic than I thought possible. My hubby and father in law rebuilt a 1951 Chevy pickup and my it was so important to us that it be in the wedding. Erin and Joe let us drive the truck into the inside and park it by the Veteran wall. History: The Garden of Lights is a major fundraiser that sees the entire garden decorated with tens of thousands of tiny Christmas lights. It draws more than 10,000 people each year during weekend evenings leading up to Christmas. The Adams/Peterson Pioneer house is a replica of an 1870 "Cracker"- style home that shows what it was like to live in Old Florida. Heathcote is most well known for being the home of the James J. Smith Bonsai Collection, the largest public collection of tropical bonsai in the country. The collection has more bonsai on year-round display than any other public exhibit in the United States. Although there are 26 species represented in the collection, almost half the trees are species of ficus. The more than 100 specimen bonsai range from huge buttonwood, estimated to be 200 years old, to a magnificent, twin-trunk Jaboticaba, originally styled by John Naka in 1973. Thousands of visitors flock to the bonsai pavilion during Garden of Lights to have their children's pictures taken with Heathcote the Bear. James J. Smith was an internationally recognized authority on bonsai who operated a wholesale bonsai nursery in Vero Beach, FL. He learned from some of the most famous bonsai masters in the world including John Naka and Toshio Saburomaru. For decades, Smith conducted a free monthly workshop at his Durastone Nursery on Old Dixie Highway. He was a mentor to several generations of Florida bonsai artists. His bonsai are in numerous important collections around the world, and numerous books picture his trees and discuss his work. When he was in his 80s, he agreed to give most of his private collection to Heathcote if it could develop a suitable display area. Heathcote conducted a major fundraising campaign and developed a plan for a 10,000-square-foot garden complete with stone stands and a Japanese-influenced pavilion that is a favorite scene for weddings and garden parties. Smith died in 2016.
