As far as I can tell and from what she has shared, she is well taken care of. They are attentive when needed and give space when they are not. They have also been very accommodating of our family gatherings, which we so appreciate. It was not until this past visit that I realized there was actually a pool here as well! I wish she had taken advantage of this when she was first admitted. The facility is always kept super clean and it is well maintained. The grounds are pristinely kept and there is plenty of "campus" to walk around and enjoy. They have a couple of options for choice in food, but there could be more variety for residents as well as family that come to visit. We often end up ordering in which is fine however if the dining services had more specialized food (different cuisines, zest, etc. ) we would be more apt to spend money in-house. They offer gatherings for residents which some seem to take part in and they are diligent about making residents aware with a monthly newsletter. It is a wonderful facility and the staff are lovely however there could be a greater effort to address social-emotional needs of residents such as loneliness, depression, end of life talk. Perhaps this could be incorporated if there was a stronger community-building effort amongst residents or even children and/or young people. The younger residents may have an easier time doing this on their own but for the older residents it would be helpful to incorporate more interaction perhaps with the outside world, or at the least a listening ear. Bringing that to the center at a deeper capacity could help improve and increase the good work that is done here. I trust they will continue to treat her well and assist her with her needs.

We looked at other options before coming to visit Celebration Villas. We were initially concerned about the care level in an assisted living facility vs a skilled nursing facility. After our experience with the various staff members in the nearly 2 months my MIL has been here, those concerns were completely unfounded. Their various care level options allow residents to remain here as their care needs increase. Regardless of the care level you're paying for though, their staff is well trained and extremely compassionate! They take the time to get to know the residents and treat them with respect and dignity. Their management staff is communicative and we've never been left wondering about any of the questions we've raised. All of their resident assistants work together well and pair up as necessary to insure transfers are done safely. Several of their staff have been here 20+ years. That only happens when people are happy with their jobs and proud of what they do. As we make this journey together with our Mom, it's very reassuring that we have a care partner that we can rely on. Starla spent an enormous amount of time patiently answering our questions and asked many, many questions about our sister and her specific needs. Then she went to the hospital the very next day to meet with our sister and talk with her directly. It was so very clear that Starla was interested in making this work for us and our sister - more than any other community that we met with!! She states that it is impossible for the facility to coordinate doctors visits with family members, so that the family is able to know what is being said and done with the resident. And the LPN who is managing Heritage Hall lied to her CEO about what she told me, which was the exact opposite of what the CEO said. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS as that is exactly what it is, there is nothing about real "care" from them. They are in it for the money. They use prescription drugs prescribed by a CRNP (not the attending psychiatrist) to medicate the residents into stupors, (read zombies) where they sleep through the insipid activities. Important paperwork needed by the family is either lost or not shared. A document which must be filled out by the psychiatrist has been sitting in my sister's folder for at least a month, and must be returned to a government agency in 2 weeks, yet the attending person at the nurse's desk had no idea what the "paperwork" was. I am in the process of going through the state's ombudsman program to make sure that my sister is not further harmed by their lack of caring.

The entire staff at Paramount were pleasant and helpful and you can tell that they all enjoy their work and that they truly care about the patients. The nursing staff were excellent! While I hated for my husband to have to be there, the obvious dedication and compassion of the staff made me feel comfortable leaving him in their capable hands. My husband received speech therapy, and, in the short time that he was there, we noticed definite improvements in his speech and comprehension. Occupational therapy and physical therapy also were great--both in the services provided and the advice as to how to adapt his environment and his activities. The facility is very clean, the rooms are spacious, and the dining and lounge areas were comfortable and inviting. My husband enjoyed a variety of foods and was provided with alternatives if he did not want what was on the standard menu. I'm hoping he won't expect that same variety and flexibility now that he's home. If you are in need of a rehabilitation facility, I highly recommend Paramount South Hills.

I am very sad to say once you are on the upper floors the experience we had with our mother's care was horrible. My observation was aids on cell phones, patients left sitting in hallways for hours, no assistance at meals. I could go on and into more specifics about the lack of empathy and care - I would just suggest if you have a loved one looking for long term care do your due diligence and tour the area where your loved one will be staying or stay away from this place.

My parents had lived at Harmony for two years when my father who had Alzheimers fell and broke his…read morehip. He was still in pain when he returned from the hospital. My father liked to wander and though he couldn't walk he would crawl out of his bed and would get to the hall. At night there was nobody there so we have no idea how long it took for them to notice. At that point the compassionate people at Harmony gave him a 30 day notice to leave, though we had already arranged another room so he could go back to living with my mother who could keep an eye on him. When the going gets tough, Harmony throws you out. My father died one week later at another facility, without my mother, very heartbreaking for her. Two years later, my mother fell and broke her arm and had some issues in the hospital, Harmony refused to take her back, though she was up and around within a couple of weeks. Harmony it appears to be looking for residents in good health to charge their expensive rates, but when you can no longer completely care for yourself, it is time to hit the road and they mean now! The staff was very nice, but the management can only be looking at their bottom line as they were chronically understaffed and unable to assist in living. When they were needed the most, they will not be there to help.

The tables obviously not cleaned either as they are covered in food residue. I've heard other residents state this facility didn't have hot water for several months. Staff in not engaged at all, rather talking/playing on their personal cell phones. The first time I visited this place I rounded the corner to witness 5 "nurses" hanging out and over heard one say "I'm surprised I got this job after I got out of jail". All I can say is I wouldn't let my parents live here after the complaints I hear from residents and terrible staff.

Harmony at Hershey is an independent living facility with sections of assisted care and memory…read morecare. A family member was a resident of assisted care there for approximately one year before she passed away so I believe we have the knowledge and background to give an accurate rating. We became friends with some of the residents there and keep in touch with them. Please understand upfront that this is not a vindictive review. This review is being done to tell the truth with hopes that things might change because I truly believe this facility has great potential and I would very much like them to reach that potential for the welfare of the residents. The good: The location is fantastic and a great selling point. The building is new and has a very nice look inside and out which is another selling point. There were several phenomenal staff members there and as of this writing, only one is left. The bad: Included in the monthly fee is cleaning where someone is to come, once a week, to your living space to clean. Well, that happened less than a half a dozen times in a year because of staffing issues. This facility goes through staff like crazy. There are always new faces coming in and for the most part, the staff that leave are always the good ones. They are so shorthanded that sometimes they have non-trained staff members actually doing the cooking of the food. Often, the janitor.....yes...you read it correctly...the janitor cooks for the residents. I personally have witnessed this. The ugly: We used to eat there often with my family member but stopped eating there because of rumors of food borne illnesses. Unfortunately, my family member kept got several urinary tract infections while she was there of which one of them hospitalized her. She lived in the assisted care level. They were supposed to come in every 3-4 hours to check on her and change her if needed. She continued to get the urinary tract infections and we could not figure out why. We ended up putting in a Wi-Fi camera and found out the possible reason. Instead of coming in every few hours like they were supposed to, staff would sometimes not check on her for 12 to 14 hours, especially overnight. We complained and they blamed it on staffing issues and being shorthanded. One time at 5 AM, I checked the camera and found my family member on the floor and not moving. We rushed over there. She was OK when we found her but needed help getting back into bed. A review of the camera footage showed that nobody had been in there for over nine hours previous. The residents have call buttons on them to press for assistance. It is quite normal for 2+ hour response times. We have personally witnessed this dozens of times. Communication is horrible at best. When there is something that you, as a family member, should know about, basically you will find out well after the fact and sometimes too late. We met many times with the Nursing director and the administrator. They listened to our concerns and changes were promised but there was never any follow-through on anything as we had to keep bringing up the issues time after time. Reliable information is that things have actually become worse there Summary: If you are thinking about having a loved with special medical needs live here, this is definitely not the place. If the potential resident is physically well and can live independently on their own, then this might be the place for you, however, I would stay away from the dining room.
