    Breakfas special
    Edgar D.

This is one of those oldies but goodies cafe's that have endured the test of time. Not sure how long it's been in business but from the cliente it looks like a cult following. There are some long standing return customers. Everyone seems to agree the chorizo and eggs is the go to for breakfast. The eggs Benedict were pretty good. I can understand why customers become loyal. It's nice to see servers being friendly, attentive and performing as they should. The decor screams old Hollywood. Gene Harlow cafe. Makes sense. Thank you

Haven't been here in a long long time.. and this place hasn't changed at all.. Defin a local hole in the wall spot in Tempe. The food was good and the service was good could have been better but can't complain.

"Harlows".... Yes it's centered around classic cinema, with wood paneling, classic movie posters & celebrity pictures as decor. Parking can be tough but don't give up. The food is delicious, service is awesome & coffee is hot n . Plenty of seating, booths, tables ,bar , you choose. The "early bird special" 8-11am was the best deal, as the menu is a tad expensive but I've heard the portions are large. I ordered the really bird egg muffin sandwich with hash browns it's very good, more homemade style. Hash browns are more like home potatoes (cubes with seasoning). I like it & you should too. Great job Eva; your service is exceptional, the smile is beautiful & your attention is spot on!

This place is located on SW corner of University and Hardy, West of ASU. We stopped in to pickup food for brunch. The Reuben (see photo) was a great size for the price. And the meat was very well prepared. Potato salad was a healthy serving and very good as well.

Long time been on my list for breakfast spots to try. But I don't go out for breakfast often so this was a treat! Harlow's was delicious. Everything we ordered was yummy and quickly prepared. Service was great! It was busy on the weekend but our wait for a party of 3 wasn't very long. Maybe 10-15 mins at 10am. I'm sure if going earlier it would have been no wait. I called to see if they take a name on the list or rez, nope just waiting upon arrival. That wasn't surprising. It's a small breakfast restaurant with fun decor and still very mom and pop vibe. I'd definitely go back and try the creamed chipped beef on toast, as it's a speciality but they were sold out by 10am.

I love Harlow's afraid to review because it will get even busier than it is . It's a great old school cafe without the greasy spoon food. The French toast is thick and soft the green pork chili is out of this world , the home fries are crispy and the coffee is simple . Reminds me of the diners growing up back east . I often will sit up at the counter if on my own and have met both the owners and the staff . Always so friendly and proud of what they do . But make sure you order a drink . They have a table of unique napkins and the server will choose one based on your personality or occasion. Love supporting small business

Love it here I love that it's hasn't changed in years, you know that saying if it's not broken don't fix it well this place is the definition of that food was amazing like if my mom made it bacon was crispy just they way I like it eggs scrambled not over cook like some places I have been too and the pancakes yum!!! Our server was good come every so often to check on us, my husband has been there before and he had her last time too and she recognized him quickly that a plus for us to be honest with you... I love the feel wood panels and autographs photos of different celebrities that have been there I loved it here we will definitely be back but in my car and not his bike lol

Harlow's is a Tempe gem! Very good food served in generous portions. Fresh baked muffins are always a must! Great diner vibe with great service. Always busy, so plan for a short wait, but It'll be worth it! Bring cash and save a couple bucks on your bill.

You know, my Uber driver told me I'd love this place and he was right. I was sitting at the counter and every single plate that came up looked PHENOMENAL. I got the chicken fried steak and it absolutely melted in my mouth. The biscuits were super light and fluffy. Tons of food for the price, I definitely ended up with two meals. It was packed when I got here and the servers were running and I didn't see anyone who wasn't still getting great service. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in the area.

The food portions were huge. I ordered a chorizo burrito. I also ordered a side of cottage cheese. Both were generous portions which makes up for the somewhat pricey menu. My husband ordered a two egg breakfast named after someone but I couldn't find it on the online menu. He said the bacon was really good. The potatoes were just potatoes. Eggs were cooked to his liking. I would definitely go again. Service was good and food was fast despite them being busy. It's an old school kind of place with old signs, photos and knickknacks. If that's your cup of tea, give them a try!

    Arley L.

Cute small cafe, nice and fast service with cafe style breakfast. The Breakfast burritos are a pretty good size that will leave you full. Coffee is good and their Ice Tea is delicious as well. Bisques and gravy were a bit disappointing. Bisques were a bit dry and hard around the edges and the gravy lacked flavor, it was pretty plain. But everything else was delicious and would definitely come back!

    Bridget H.

This place is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Tempe. I had the burrito special of the day. The chorizo burrito here is excellent! The prices are reasonable with generous portions. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Nothing like a good cup of dinner coffee, they will keep your coffee cup full. The vibe is casual and no frills. Definitely worth the wait to get a table. They have plenty of parking as well. Looking forward to going again.

    Bloody Mary
    Terry M.

I'm not sure if it is, but this place looks like a little mom and pop restaurant very old-school inside. I felt like I was transported back in time. This restaurant has a little bit of a western vibe to it. I was immediately sat, it was very busy, but the server got to me immediately. Sadie was my server, and she was an absolute delight, super friendly without being over the top and very informative. I just ordered a bloody Mary and some hashbrowns, but they were very tasty nice and crunchy and the bloody Mary was one of the best ones I've ever had. I will definitely be coming back to check out the rest of the food. If you're a breakfast fan definitely come check it out. I'm not sure what the hostesses names were but they were also very pretty and very friendly.

Our group of 8 ended up here when another Tempe restaurant had a kitchen emergency and cancelled our reso an hour before dinner. Alter Ego was able to accommodate us, and we were glad they did. If you enter from the street side you'd never know you're in a hotel restaurant. It's got an upscale, classy vibe not usually seen in hotel dining. The waiter and bartender were attentive and knowledgeable. The menu wasn't huge but it was a great variety of options. Table had some salads, flatbreads, burgers and a round of butter cake desserts. Each was really, really good. Way more sophisticated plates than expected. Also had a bunch of craft cocktails, unique and well made. Sometimes the best experiences are unplanned. But you SHOULD plan to give this place a try.

I got the bang bang shrimp and it was good (6/10). The problem that I have is the pistachio gin fizz was an absolute no! I am a HUGE fan of pistachio and gin so immediately I had to get his drink but it was beyond mediocre. Are we drinking only syrup??? My last complaint is the coconut tres leches dessert.... Do we actually know how to make tres leches or we just naming desserts however we want? Just curious. It came out super hot, steaming more like a molten cake. As a Hispanic woman, I was expecting a creamy moist cake to celebrate my graduation but this was not it as well. Last but not least if the bald manager with the orange shirt wants to eat in the back of the kitchen, not the problem I get it (I work at restaurants) HOWEVER shoving your two index fingers into your mouth to get your debris out was my last straw. Like I said I like this restaurant and never had problems but today felt like a fever dream there.

While the ambience is fairly simple, the overall experience is a positive one, especially once the food arrives. I ordered the lox and bagel and was impressed by how substantial the portion was. The lox was generously layered, with a large amount of arugula on top. The arugula appeared to be lightly dressed with olive oil, which added great flavor. While it did not fully align with my personal dietary preferences, it was well executed, and I would be happy to return to see if it can be adjusted. The dirty chai was another highlight in terms of flavor. It was well spiced and not overly sweet, which I appreciated. Although it was described as very hot when delivered, it arrived closer to lukewarm, but the taste itself was enjoyable. Service was efficient and attentive. The check was dropped off relatively early, which initially felt a bit quick, but our server continued to check in on us throughout the meal, creating a balanced and courteous experience. The fresh squeezed orange juice was excellent, and everything we ordered was well prepared. Parking in the area can be challenging, though the nearby parking structure behind Pedalhaus makes it more manageable. Overall, this is a reliable brunch option with strong portions, thoughtful flavors, and enough positives to make it a place I would gladly return to.

Now listen... the spot itself is cute. Once we actually got service, our waiter was cool. It just took forevvverrrrr & I ended up having to request cutlery after food was served. To be fair, it was busy, but there also seemed to be plenty of wait staff, so I'm not exactly sure where the disconnect was. Food-wise: the spinach artichoke dip was definitely the table favorite. My caprese panini was ok, it was sadly lacking pesto which feels a little criminal for a caprese situation. Our friends loved the fancy French toast & I was absolutely there for the prickly pear mimosas The entire brunch honestly felt like it was one dropped plate away from becoming a sitcom episode. One poor new waiter dropped a plate on the floor, then later knocked glasses off the rack above the bar & shattered a couple right next to guests sitting there. I genuinely felt bad for him because you could tell he was having a rough shift. That said, I really appreciated that they acknowledged the long wait & gave us a discount without us having to ask. That kind of accountability goes a long way. Overall, I'd still go back & give them another try because the atmosphere was fun, the vibe was there, and I can see the potential. They serve salads, bowls, sandwiches, all-day breakfast, protein shakes, fresh juices, and other healthy, fast-casual eats for dine-in or take-away. My kind of place! This is one of those spots that I'd frequent if I lived nearby (ChopShop, want to open in Northern California?!). I stumbled upon this spot after a little self-guided tour of ASU campus on a sleepy Sunday morning (everyone must have been asleep after the big football game the day before). I'd forgotten about this spot and it was such a happy surprise to find it again and to see that they survived the pandemic and are still thriving. First visit I ordered: -Cheat Day Wrap: scrambled egg, bacon, white cheddar, smashed avocado, tomato, brown rice (I ordered without rice), and turkey or ham (I skipped these too) *DELISH on a whole wheat wrap!!! Full of flavor and super easy to eat. This hearty breakfast sando fueled my active morning of hiking "A" Mountain (Hayden Butte Preserve) the running around the the IronMan course to spectate (30,000+ steps as a spectator!). We couldn't leave town without another trip. I took my guy and we enjoyed a salad, another breakfast wrap, and: -Chicken + Prosciutto Sandwich: grilled chicken, prosciutto, fontina, arugula, fig mostarda, dijon (no dijon for us), on a house bun. If you're in the area, looking for a healthy-ish breakfast, lunch, or snack, definitely check out Original ChopShop. Note: it gets busy at peak meal hours with students and faculty. Order at the kiosks (super easy), grab a number, find a table in their cozy interior or on their large front patio, and your food will be brought to you. Have a question? But my first experience was not that great. They had plenty of places to sit, whether you like to sit indoors or outdoors. I decided to try the "Glow Up Shake," which is their protein shake. The shake was okay; it didn't blow me away. Considering that it has banana, pineapple, dates, etc., I was hoping it would melt in my mouth with a galaxy of flavor--darn, no such luck. But like I said, it was an okay drink that I think others might like. Now, as for the $3 pre-wrapped Triple Chocolate Chip Cookie? The first cookie they brought me was hard as a diamond. I asked if they could heat it up to soften it a bit like they do at Starbucks, but he said they can't? Wow, I didn't realize that heating a Triple Chocolate Chip Cookie was so complex that it can't be done by some places. Anyway, the minor good news was he brought me a different cookie that was soft enough to bend and break off a piece and chew without worrying about breaking a tooth. But the big question is, will I be back? Of course I will; the place has a plethora of healthy food which I like. And I'm sure when I order something other than a diamond-hard Triple Chocolate Chip Cookie, my experience will be somewhat better. This place does have a fantastic Wi-Fi. That's a plus.
