Price was very reasonable. Fish was huge compared to what I get in the US - two pieces of fried fish or three if getting a larger portion. But, no tartar sauce. Not sure if tartar sauce does not come with fish and chips in the UK. Honestly, fish and chips both taste was okay. I would not crave for this in the foreseeable future for sure. Not sure if I could ask for Diet Pepsi refill. But was thankful for a place to dine in for hot food on Boxing Day.

Leffe has been around 783 years. I resisted a comment to the charming and wonderful young staff on the irony of this guy's pub selling this beer, as it's owned by InBev Belgium, which is the European operating arm of the global mega giant Anheuser-Busch. I imagine the staff couldn't much care anyway. I do admit I thought I was going to be served rubbish fish here but it was bloody good, a generous portion of fresh cod, light, crunchy batter and very tasty. I was served up a very good deal indeed. Sadly the supporting cast - the chips and peas were just so so. Likewise, my wife who opted for a burger meal rated the burger and the rosé wine. I couldn't face a second pint of leffe as I'd likely be swaying, so I tried a pint of Doom which I think was under £2. It was pleasant and after two drinks each it was time to call it a night. So the only other bit to report is that its card only, they don't want real money. I couldn't see a means to give a tip. We noted that cashless was quite common around southern England something else I'm not a fan of. I can't see us returning to a 'Spoons' any time at all let alone soon.

It's a very local pub with loyal regulars and not many random visitors who wander in just on the off chance for a pint because they like the look of the place. Having said that, if you do venture in you'd be surprised it's an ok place but the beer isn't great and the spirits aren't to be trusted! They do however have a pool table in the back room which is cheap to play on, they also have a fantastic juke box packed full of great songs and also a quiz machine to while away the hours and get engrossed in when you're trying to imagine you were somewhere else :o)

I'm gagging for one. But as I head for the door, exchanging good evenings with the crib-players, I hear a thunderous fart, followed by gales of laughter. Then there's a crash of glass as the landlady topples off her seat, cursing. And suddenly I think: this is my sort of pub. Fine Melksham bitter. No food. Friendly faces. Oodles of laughter. The occasional stray fart. And a weeny white pub dog called Dylan who sits on my table outside and, I swear, almost talks to you as he watches the world go by. So why have I never used this place before? Why, indeed? For the Moles bitter is sublime. Sitting in the evening sun, I down two pints in about eight minutes. Then another. Then another two. Beautiful, gluggable stuff. And after 90 glorious minutes I begin my five-mile ride home in the dark. Lord knows how I make it down a hugely steep, winding hill near my home. Two evenings later I'm back there quaffing more of this hearty brew, evoking stark memories of my ale-sodden days as a reporter in the Sixties before a lifetime of tossing pots professionally in some of Fleet Street's most shameless watering holes. True, the Anchor's not much to look at from outside. But so what? The friendly atmosphere and sporting banter give the place a magical buzz. And if you love good ale, you'll experience a wondrous, beery blast from the past in this blue-walled haven far from those dreary gastro-pubs, with their fearful pong of food that strips the head off your ale! But hold on a jiffy! My fifth pint of Moles is just arriving. Ah! Bless you, Dylan. And cheers!

I have had several meals there all of which were excellent and the service was extremely good. Provinsions come mostly from the local area. Tonite I tried something new. I had a pizza in their pizza garden. I have had thousands of pizza in my lifetme but I must admit this pizza I had was probably the best yet. The pizza chef is a local boy trained in Bath under the guidance of one of the area's top pizza chefs. I decided to start out with a basic pizza margarita. No frills. Basic pizza. It was truly incredible. I asked the chef "what is the secret?" expecting it to be something regarding the sauce. Without hesitation, he said "it is the dough." He takes 72 hours to prepare the dough. The end product is fantastic, soft greaseless dough. Beautiful. My daughter, our family pizza expert, said it was the best pizza she has ever had. She ended up dipping her pizza in a mayo/garlic sauce that she simply said "I am hooked." Needless to say, we will be back. By the way, the ambiance is great. The indoor dining has a farm like feel to it and the outdoor pizza garden is sunny and cheery. The pub also has a line of ales that are very good and I would recommend the 3 Daggers Black, a stout that actually creeps up on Guiness pretty well. There is also a farm shop that features a lot of local goodies.

Breakfast offered a spread of freshly made croissants and homemade yogurt with apricots, in addition to a menu of options to order. Service was very good. The inn is charming, with three guest rooms and one common living room. The decor is beautiful, beamed ceilings and vintage photographs give the space a lot of character. We loved it - a total gem! There are several public footpaths near the inn for a scenic walk after dinner.
