Hard Eight BBQ offers a unique dining experience. Similar to the 'pay by weight' yogurt places, here, generally, you will pay by the weight of your meat. Originally, I was going to give a four star review due to the price point. However, the meat and onion rings tasted so good, I changed my mind to a five star review. As an example, my meal was about $35 as seen in my pictures (4 ribs, half a sausage link, and onion rings). The onion rings had a unique seasoned batter that tasted great. The ribs were tender and well prepared. Server was good and a hostess was very helpful for a newcomer to understand the purchase process. Parking was limited so plan to arrive a bit early if planning near a lunch or dinner rush. Temperatures are depending on where you sit due to large windows. read more

Honestly, I don't think it's that special but I did enjoy the twice baked potato salad a lot. Apple cobbler was chef's kiss! The restaurant is nice and spacious for big parties, and there are boutiques to walk to before or afterwards so it's a great place for a date or something! The food tasted good especially the brisket and sausage. I give the brisket 9/10 and the sausage 7/10. The pork ribs were ok but not my favorite. The bbq sauce was my least favorite thing. I liked the all you can eat beans with dine-in but they were a little too spicy for my liking. One disappointment is the buy by the pound serving. You can't just order a two meat plate, but have to pay by the pound. The service was decent. Someone met me at the entrance to explain how things work in the restaurant as far as ordering. It was kind of weird having someone hand out bread and buns for the sandwich that was ordered. All in all it's good food but overpriced. The paper item is ridiculous. A solid BBQ joint if you like pit BBQ and don't mind smelling of smoke when you leave. The staffers are very friendly and all the meats we tried were on point. My fave was probably the sliced brisket & beef rib. Sausage was also very good as were the sides we tried. There will probably be a line when you come in during prime dining hours but it moves pretty quickly so long as the folks in front of you are decisive about what they want. If you have never been before, I'd recommend going with a group so you can order several items to try out, which is what we did. There is a parking lot in the back but it can fill up quickly, so be prepared to park nearby and walk over. read more

I just beat the crowd for my Friday lunch here. I thoroughly enjoyed my brisket Sandwich on an above-average jalapeño cheddar bun. The brisket was perfectly cooked, moist, and had a nice smoky, mild flavor to it. Their original BBQ sauce complemented the sandwich nicely. My three shrimp poppers (~$2 each) lacked much flavor surprisingly. The bacon was fairly crisp but the onion slice wrapped inside the pepper overshadowed everything. Friendly service though. Got the brisket stuffed potato, and hubby got a brisket sandwich with a loaded baked potato. The meat was delicious and smoky, tender and juicy, a must get again for sure! I wish Hard8 would consider making the experience a little easier for first timers. We were standing there next to a sign saying to scan the QR code for the menu. This is one of those places that sells meat by the pound, and it's cafeteria style but shhh, they hide most of it inside, although you are technically inside already LMBO, but there WAS a sign stating to let the pit master know if it's your first time. Skippy was kind of irritated by having to explain the process, as I would be too quite frankly, just put up a sign that says, select your meat and taters here, go in there (with an arrow) for your sides. Now all the sides are in a cooler table, had no idea there was an option for hot sides like fries and okra cuz I didn't have time to immerse myself into the online menu. I will be the first to tell anyone and recomend to everyone how great hard eight is. My girlfriend and I order a 16 oz ribeye Togo once a week. I called them today and was informed that they no longer offer steaks to go but you can come in to order take out. They claim because the steak continues to cook and they got complaints with how tough it is. Wouldn't the same thing apply if you take out? Help me make this make sense. Here was my experience today. Called in and tried to order, got denied. Go to the location wait in line for 15 minutes. They give you an okra flag if you order okra, put that on my tray, paid, got a to go box then transferred to my Togo box. There's no to go cups for pickles onions etc. okra came out, waited about 20 more min for steak in a Togo box. Had to go back and forth to get pickles onions and fixings. And slowly pieced together my order. Total took about 45 min of sitting there waiting. I understand where they are coming from but honestly it's brainless. What is going to stop someone from ordering takeout and having the same complaint? Just make it a policy and disclose that steaks to go will not be refunded for any reason or make the customer acknowledge on the phone. It's really frustrating and disappointing and just unnecessary. Will be going to other location in coppell from here out. Other than that I'd take this steak over 98% of steakhouses. read more

This place gets five beautiful stars!! it goes down in the mist visit places in Texas. Let's start by saying we could smell the bbq from down the street, it made our mouths water! We walked right up to the grill where the meat was being made outside and boy oh boy my eyes lost their mind Staff were so helpful helping us decide what to eat. They didn't fall short of their suggestions! This place has every meat you would want laid in right in front of you and they weigh is by pound. See pics attached! Once you order your meat you walk inside as a employee will ask if you want some sides they have a bunch of offers: Mac and cheese, okra, onion rings and so forth. We got fries and onion rings (so good!). As you keep going you'll have salad options, pies and cole sides ( we got Mac and cheese and corn ). Once you pay you'll have the option of eating inside or out We decided to eat inside and there's more than enough seating for everybody!! We loved the decor, staff and overall vibe. We loved that customers can choose their portion and get half lb orders so we could experience a variety of their meats! Great barbecue for a great price. I have used their catering twice and ordered a family meal once. The two catering times it was great. They delivered to exactly where we were in a park for a party. The food was awesome and tasted fresh. Both times the delivery time was honored and all were fed with plenty of leftovers. I ordered for football Sunday last week and it was $100 for a bunch of sides, 2 lbs brisket, 1lb sausage, 1lb prime rib (delicious). Legit! When I come to Texas,or anywhere for True Barbecue I am looking for several key factors to legitimize the quality or the pedigree of said location. Having traveled and researching Barbecue Extensively I have developed a rating system that I use to judge each location. First when you walk up what do you see? Wood Pile that actually gets used-check! Signage that sells the place as being a Barbecue Joint (not a chain store) may include beer signage or a chalkboard that shares info about specials etc. -check! And the staff can tell you the story of the business when they are asked questions! -check! The smell- this is a big factor, when you approach "H8" the smooth smell of Mesquite permeates the air. As you enter the building you can see the grills and smell the smoke, which lets me know I am in for a definite treat! You can see layers of "smoke seasoning " on the walls and you can almost hear the " heritage" as you watch the wonderfully smoked meats being cut to order! As one reads the menu board( not digital) you want to order everything! We made our choices- Ribs, Brisket, Sausages(both Jalapeños and Regular), Shrimp Poppers, and a Sweet Tater and moved into the next room where we chose our sides. Slaw,Mac and Cheese, Spicy Cheesy Corn, Hand Cut Fries and of course some pickles and onions. Beans are complimentary and a couple of big pots are simmering away, ready for you to help yourself, as is your choice of sauces. I especially enjoyed the Texas Vinegar style sauce. When I say all the meats were good, I really mean Amazing! So tender, so flavorful and just the right amount of Smokiness. Sides were all real good as well. Top it of with a cold brew and a TX Whiskey, what else do you need? Sorry we never made it to dessert. But we lingered around after we ate, had drinks and definitely enjoyed our stay!
