First, definitely translate all the reviews and you'll see that every single one of these reviews is out of the park terrific. Second, if you find yourself in the archipelago definitely get to Finnhamn. Go early. Bring your walking shoes and saunter around the island. Take some time to sit and think good thoughts at the guest harbor. Be respectful of the farmers and such you meet who live and care for livestock on this island. Finally, before you depart, go eat and have a drink or two at Finnhamns Krog Finnhamns Brygga. The restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating is perched on a mound providing breathtaking vistas of other islands, passing sailboats, kayakers, birds, etc. The food is first rate. Quality preparation. Fresh vegetables and seafood. VERY nice selection of local beer and wine. Skeppsholmen is a gorgeous and "out of the way" place, the restaurant is a twelve minute walk from The Grand Hotel, a quick bus ride on the #65, but here's a tip: You can take the ferry from Gamla Stan and/or Djurgarden, which is gorgeous. (It's also the price of bus fare). You can also do the Hop On Hop Off thing to get here. However you get here - get here. How good is the food and service? As good as you expect it would be. It is excellent, and it is not expensive (by Stockholm standards). Side note: their mustard sauce took third place in an international competition. I stayed here for a week and ate here two nights (plus every breakfast); I love this place and if you're on vacation, then you should come out to Skeppsholmen and take dinner here, you will not be disappointed!

What a fantastic location. As good as they get, anywhere. With a view over Grand Hotel,…read moreSaltsjöbaden, and into the archipelago, it's stunning. HOWEVER...the service, ouch, as Swedish and thrifty as it can get. We ordered a bottle of white wine and received two glasses at first. We then suspected the waiter got it wrong and reassured what the order was. She elegantly brought a bottle (without taking back our two glasses)and said it was her fault. Respect. HOWEVER. Ten minutes later, the bottle was taken away, on the grounds that "Our measurement is that there are four glasses in a bottle of wine, but we will serve you another generous glass". WTF!! Her superior was not fine with the waiter's great gesture and excused it with their own thrifty predicaments. BAD, BAD, BAD approach. Which restaurant ever has 4 glasses to a bottle. As bad of an attitude as it gets to spare a cost of 100 SEK ~= 10 USD.

We also got a merengue, a cardamom bun, and a princess cake. The princess cake was so good! I don't like marzipan but this was better than any I've ever had - very light, not too cloying or sweet, very soft - and beneath was soft fluffy cream and sponge cake. Staff spoke enough English that we could get by - certainly better than our Swedish! If you're visiting Waxholm, I recommend this as a lunch Stop or just for coffee and pastry.
