If…read moreyou're into that kind of fun, creative stuff, it's worth checking out lesser-known Lost & Found, which is similar to Homeless but in my opinion sells more practical things rather than quirky items that you'd use once or twice and then set aside. Lost & Found isn't hard to locate (ha!). It's at phase two of Olympian City, and you'll definitely walk past it when you take the bridge to phase three. There's another store at The One in TST, but I've never been to that one. This means that if you live on the Island or in New Territories, coming to Lost & Found may be a little bit of a trip. If I had just moved in to a new place or am redecorating parts of my apartment, I would definitely make a stop at Lost & Found. I like to think that things here can be classes into two categories, in my opinion - the vintage-y stuff and the more modern, colorful items. I love anything with that rugged, brassy look, and Lost & Found has tons of that in its vintage section. I can totally imagine decking my living room out on their gorgeous photo frames and little cupboards! For the more... FUNctionalist ones out there (sorry, I couldn't resist!), Lost & Found is big on colorful, modern-looking kitchen supplies. There are lots of colorful, disco ball-like bowls and plates that can jazz up any dinner party. Kitchen essentials like soup spoons and spatulas come in all sorts of different colors here, so if you're not one to settle with all that boring kitchen ware, this is your place! Another thing really worth checking out here are the clocks. They have loads of vintage hanging clocks featuring adorable animals like polar bears and pugs. Others are attached to a little countryside cottage and those are really cute too. I wanted to get one for a friend for her birthday, but as per Chinese traditions, it's considered sending somebody bad luck if you gift them a clock for their birthday. But just like Homeless, Lost & Found does not come cheap. One of those clocks I mentioned will set you back at least $300, and the more intricate ones with the cottage house are about $480. Although there was a sign outside that said 'on sale - up to 50% off', I didn't see a lot of items that actually were on sale! Overall, this is more of a place to browse and window-shop than to do actual shopping for me. Maybe one day if I'm thinking of redecorating, and if that coincides with them doing a massive sale, then I'll definitely pick up an item or two here!

Come to Lost & Found, which is a unique lifestyle concept store where you may find all sort of things including furniture, gifts, home accessories, etc. It's flagship is in Tsim Sha Tsui but this one is not as crowded as the one there since it is at a corner on the second floor of Olympian City (which is currently undergoing reconstruction). They have over hundreds of different brands from all over the world like Koziol, Fred, Magis, Umbra. They also have local designs as well. I personally adore the clocks there with all of them having their own design. All are rather unique and innovative. At this modern age where most people tend to use their smart phone as their telling time device, clocks may one day become obsolete. However, once you have seen what they have here, you may buy more clocks than you actually need. Next time when you are looking for home accessories or gifts for your friends, this place will not disappoint you. Warning though: you may probably end up like a kid in a candy store with so many creative products on display here. So... worry about your purse.

It's the sort of place you would wander into on a hot Saturday afternoon to get out of the heat, but then end up in there for an hour playing with the cool trinkets and funky gadgets. You'd come here to buy one or two quirky things for your house, especially if you have had enough of the local flavour "OMG, not another set of chopsticks in a little silk purse", or gifts for the person who has everything. The products aren't particularly Hong Kong or local (unlike GOD), but still interesting anyway. The stores are piled high and somewhat crammed with stuff, so you will need a bit of patience to find that ideal gift. To give you an example of the sort of thing you can buy, why not try a bath whistle. This is a small plastic bird you half fill with water and then blow into. The water makes a chirping bird noise which is pleasant enough in the bath, but utterly useless! If the bird whistle doesn't interest you, how about a chair made out of radiators, or a massive wine cork stool? It's not cheap, I suppose designer gear isn't really supposed to be, but it is pretty. They do offer some wedding list services, but this seems to be in it's infancy as I found it hard to organise this with their head office. There are a couple of locations, one in Central and one in Wan Chai.

I wouldn't say this would be the place to go if you're looking for a nice gift for someone; rather, it's the kind of spot you visit if you're starting out on your own and looking for functional kitchenware (or not into spending much on such things.)

From a laundry bag that has a money sign on it (money laundering, get it?), to a comb that's shaped like a shotgun. The products aren't exactly the most useful but it will bring a smile to people's faces. They have this umbrella, where the handle is like a sword! How much fun can you have with that? The physical store itself is quite cool too, it's a small store but it's still got doorways, small rooms, corners and other space to make it fun to walk around. On weekends, it's actually quite busy there, you will find it quite packed and because of the amount of products they have, a little hard to navigate without running into something. Located at the top levels of The One in TST, I wasn't even aware of the name of this shop at first. I just remember there is a place that was rather dim and sells mainly designer appliances and gadgets above the cinema of The One and is not a place that I would normally go. Nonetheless, when it comes to present giving seasons, this shop is always at the top of my list to go to; not least because there is some real originality in the items sold there and would make decent gifts. Thick card boards puzzled together into a stool? Check. Chessboard that is not flat but with creases and dimples? Check. Put it this way, for the items sold here, certain time has to be allowed before you can figure out what exactly the object is; that is what I call design with thoughts. This make the gifts that much more interesting as finding out how the thing actually works become part of the fun. I am most certain that if I am keen on decorating my room or have the say in what to put and how to put, the whole shopping experience would definitely be more engaging; yet the space and the placing of the items make it already enjoyable enough to just walk around and fussing around with the stuffs there.

I have been traveling through this airport for years and I only recently discovered this store on my last trip. So if you need to do a google search for more locations, search under the name "Living Plaza by Aeon". Back in New York, the Daiso chain has finally started to make an appearance on the east coast. Their stores are more concentrated in the west coast with a few in the mid west. The airport location is large for an airport store, with a variety of great products! I tell you this from a standpoint of having been abroad in Japan and having seen some of their Daiso locations myself. I feel the need to give this disclaimer: of course it is more cheaper to go visit Daiso in Japan (everything there will be priced starting at 100 yen). If that is not feasible to you, then visiting this store is more reasonable despite the higher cost. (12HKD = 166 yen approximately). After checking in our bags at Terminal 1, we actually walked back all the way to Terminal 2 with our carry-ons (walk took about 12-15 mins walking quickly) in order to visit this store before boarding our flight. If you time it right on your next trip, you too can have a mini speed shopping spree (save room in your carry-on if you can!). I will call this store a higher end dollar store; a dollar store on steroids if you will. They have travel pillows, typical travel accessories you would really need on your journey, but they also offer a great home section: home decor, home organization, kitchen; laundry section (I picked up a cute laundry bag!), a beauty section and much more. The stationary section is so cute. I couldn't decide which pens to buy so I just walked over to the wall and grabbed a whole bunch! They make great souvenirs too and since they are so unique everybody at work will know this pen only belongs to you and you only! My laundry bag was on the pricier side of $60HKD but if you compare it to something you would buy at typically Bed Bath and Beyond or Target, then I still think it's better due to quality and price comparison. There is a whole section for toys, dishes/bowls, snacks, hobbies (sewing, gardening, etc) and random tools/gadgets. I had found this baby stroller S hook and a baby stroller blanket clamp to secure the blanket from falling out, something I had been searching for in a few Daiso locations in Japan couldn't locate. I gave these out to my expecting friends as gifts (I don't think it's something you think about or see often in use in the US). If I had more room in my suitcase I would have shopped more. If items are not marked with a specific price, then it's assumed to be only HK$12! Most other items that are pricier, like a travel neck pillow will run approximately HK$25 and thick nylon tote bags with zippers for around HK$60. All still very affordable for an airport store! The shop is always neatly organized and the employees are polite and speak English. A plastic shopping bag will run you $0.50. I could spend hours here, but alas, there's a flight to catch!
