I have been going to Happy Dragon since the early 90's. It used to be the go to place for delicious food and excellent customer service. It seems to be under new management now. Food isn't good anymore. Customer service is not there. I went with my daughter a few weeks back for lunch, the waitress gave me a refill and spilled on the table and on my food. Just said,"oops" and walked away. I Decided to give them one more chance tonight. It's been a long week and I wanted to take some shrimp chow mein fun home and chill. It was tasting pretty good until I bit into something hard that cut into my cheek. I spit it back out...A toothpick was in my food!!!! A tooth pick!!!! Absolutely disgusting. This place used to be amazing. Food reminded me of back home in NY. Every other Chinese place in the area didn't hit right, this place USED TO. Looks like they've got new staff, and the food DEFINITELY reflects that. Food is over salted, or flavorless now. Rice BAD, chicken wings BAD, beef &broccoli bad/TOUGH MEAT, fried rice NO SEASON, everything taste like grease, and dish soap. BRING BACK THE OLD HAPPY DRAGON. read more

Happy Dragon is the best Chinese restaurant around. My family and I have been going here for years, probably since they first opened. Their food is always delicious and freshly made. We always considered Happy Dragon the best Chinese restaurant ever back in the late 90's under the Tsengs and later under the next owners. Great food, excellent service and a happy place to eat. Under the current ownership, the food is bland and the wait staff seems unfriendly. Our waitress today, even before getting one of our orders wrong, seemed disinterested in serving us. Happy Dragon isn't as happy as it used to be. We probably won't be going back for a while. read more

The food is incredibly bland, nothing like the food used to be at Happy dragon. What a huge disappointment for leonardtown.

The food was ok. Our sons had the beef broccoli and the other had the low menu chicken. The said the food was good but rice could've been better (rice snobs we've lived in Asia ‍). I had the Kung Pao Chicken and the chicken was pretty limp - the flavor was not spicy as one would expect. The fried rice was good though. The egg rolls were thick dough and not quite sure of the filling but it was an odd taste. Wish we could've dined in as it might've been better. read more

Happy Dragon is definitely my favorite Chinese food location in St. Mary's County. Food is always consistently good...especially the soups! (I'll swing by several times throughout the year for their won ton soup. Its perfect when someone in the house is under the weather.) Portion sizes are very generous except for the rice that is provided w/ meals. I think it is a little small, I always have leftovers of the main entrée but no rice to go w/ it so I do wish theyd provide more. Prices aren't bad either and during the week they offer specials of the day which are really affordable. read more

I really want to leave them no stars. The ownership has changed....again. This time, they took the cooks with them. No matter how many times they say that nothing has changed in the kitchen, they are lying. The food is disappointing and no where as great as it was. They need to pay the old cooks whatever they are demanding because they deserve it. This establishment will be closed within 2 years if not. I have been eating here since they opened in the 90's. Simply awful. The food and service were horrible. The Kung Pao Shrimp has too much celery and had peanuts as a topping instead part of the entree. I order spring rolls (2) that had pork so I ordered them without pork. I only cut (1) in half, leaving 1 1/2 remaining. My husband had to eat it to verify. Instead of the waiter bringing (2) new egg rolls, they brought only (1). Then, when I saw the entree, I asked him to take it off our check. The waiter removed the plate from the table. At the end of my eating rice and 1 spring roll, the bill came with the Kung Pao Shrimp. The waiter told us "you ordered, so you pay". I told him that it was eaten and took it away. We paid the bill needless to say and will never return. We are normally big tippers but in this case, the tip was to pay for food that was uneaten. Never again! read more

Had a group of 6 for a family dinner and we were able to walk in and get a table with no problem at 7pm on a Saturday night. As a matter of fact, the place was half full when we arrived and completely empty when we left 8:15. I started with Wonton soup and it was delicious and favorable (which can be difficult with Wonton soup at times). Then an order of vegetable springs rolls arrived and I was not a fan as it was very tough and greasy. Next up was the chicken lo mein, and it was average at best. However, it was a huge portion. The highlight of the evening was our waiter. He was on top of everything and nobody's drink was ever less then half full, kudos to the service here. read more

I am giving 3 starts for me being happy with the drinks. The food was just ok. I went on a Friday during happy house where the drinks where but one get one. This was awesome. They are relatively busy there is only a few places in southern MD where you have to actually wait to sit down. The food that I had was just bland. I ordered the crab dip sandwich. I wouldn't order that again it. I usually give restaurants 2 chances so I will go again and try something different. I am hoping I don't just list this place as a place to drink after work. read more

I expected to find your typical Chinese restaurant in a strip mall but when the plates came, it look upscale and like they care how the food looks and tastes great. They cut coroner's big time on quantity such as crab rangoo, you might as well not even bother because you only get 1/2 teaspoon of filling (3 different times now). Same thing with the egg rolls not even close to what you get anywhere else. I will drive further to get what want . Prices are nothing special either. read more

This restaurant is one of the only places we could find open at 10pm on a Friday night in the area. We were starving so we were a little disappointed to find this was not a Chinese buffet type of place. However, we ordered some combo meals just slightly overpriced at $11 a plate. The food, when it arrived, was hot and fresh tasting. Our only complaints were that all of the food was way too salty and the rice portions were very small. Oh, and the waiter was grumpy but at 30 minutes to closing I can't really blame him. We will probably try to find a different Chinese place to become regulars at but this one was good enough at the time. read more

Sunday night is a difficult night to find certain restaurants open. I had been here before. The hot and sour soup was terrific. They have a new menu since I was last there. They list specialty drinks. The Singapore noodles are good. Sitting near the fish tank is fun. Watching the fish is worth the visit. read more

My family and I use to practically live in this restaurant from '92 till '94 when we were forced to move because of my father's work. They had the BEST food, lovely family staff that treated us like kings, and super clean establishment. My mother and I were just sitting here in Louisville, KY reminiscing about how to this day it was the best Chinese fare we've ever had at those prices. Good, solid run of the mill Chinese. Nothing to write home about, but I've never had a bad meal there, either.

Food quality wise, this is a great Chinese place to eat or get take out. The atmosphere is fine and service is pretty good. The only thing that's keeping this from four or five star territory is the prices. It's just too darn pricey for what you get. I'd go here a lot more often if it weren't so expensive. read more

I have been coming to Happy Dragon since I was about ohh, 8 years old. Now 26, after living in many different states all over the country, I still come back to Happy Dragon whenever I am home because the food is that good. I have never had a disappointing experience here. The wonton soup is delicious and every entree I have ever had was always good. I would say Happy Dragon and Szechuan Garden in Waldorf have the BEST chinese food in Southern Maryland. read more

I've always enjoyed eating at Happy Dragon. They make the food items I want to order (a little spicy, very spicy or no spice). They are accomodating in that sense where other places aren't. I've never had an issue with the food tasting bad or not being correct. I carried out a lot and my order was always ready on time. read more
