I've been on four swamp tours in Louisiana and this was like no other. You'll feel like you're being dropped off in the wrong place but don't worry; you're in for a good time. Captain George gave us all the tea about the neighbors and also welcomed us into his lovely home. Also, best gumbo in Louisiana at DePope, don't miss it!

We sought out to find a true local who knew the Bayou like the back of their hands rather than some commercialized tour company and we found that in Happiness Bayou. We could've spent all day out in the Bayou listening to Captain George's stories. He had us fully enthralled. I left a little piece of my heart in St Bernard Parish, thanks to Captain George and his wife, Samantha and their little tavern.

I couldn't recommend an experience more. If you are looking for a bayou tour that isn't overly commercialized by some bimbo transplant that is reading a script, I would strongly suggest you pick captain george at the happines bayou tours. Captain George is a local to the area who seemingly is born and raised and knows the waters like the back of his hand. He has interesting stories for days and is such a fun welcoming person. You are seriously missing out if you do not book this bayou tour! The food and drinks at the tavern afterward are excellent and the locals and the staff are just as kind! This is a truly one of a kind experience and I wish nothing but success to captain george and Sammy!

Holy Cow! I can't say enough about this experience! The captain George, and his wife take amazing care of their guests. They were so kind and helped us organize our trip perfectly. George gave a tour only a professional could give. He has gators on payroll... And I promise you, you will not regret booking this tour to find out what that means. If I could reincarnate after death, first thing I'm doing is going on a Happiness Bayou Tour.

Capt. George deserves much more than a 5 star review! Since it was so late in the season, there were not many gators out and about as they were in hibernation. Not seeing a lot of gators did not detract from the tour AT ALL because of how fabulous Captain George was and how much history and knowledge he had about the area, wildlife, and his surroundings. Captain George was born and raised in the swamp and boy, let me tell ya, I learned SO MUCH in the short time spent with him. Would highly recommend this trip to anyone interested in a unique tour experience. Few Pro's: + BYOB on board the boat. + Capt. takes you to his "camp" (basically his second home) halfway through the tour for potty stops and souvenirs. + Cost was great! $40/person for 2.5 hours. + Great for all ages. We were a group of 30-somethings, but there were kids/families on board as well. + Local/family company - it is only George and his brother that run the actual tours. Love supporting those with their own businesses and passions! + Although we didn't see many gators, we did get to see other sea life. Capt. George has crabbing cages all over the place and will pull some up to show you.

We just had the BEST tour with Captain George! He has a vast amount of knowledge about the animals and the water systems as well as the marsh, rivers and swamps. While this tour is informative, the best part are George's stories! Best part of visiting NOLA was this tour. 10/10

I ended up doing this tour twice within a month. Excellent, informative and fun! Captain George knows his stuff! The price of this tour is extremely reasonable and honestly worth every penny!

Amazing tour with captain Georges. Great fun and less crowded than those very popular tours. The boat was with about 10 people and there was no other boats around. We saw some really interesting camps affected by Katrina and captain Georges really knows the area as he grew up there and has really cool stories to tell during the trip. The place you take off from is only 20 minutes away from New Orleans so very easy to reach with a lyft or Uber.

When I was looking for a last minute swamp tour I couldn't decide which one to go with. I'm so glad I booked our group with Captain George and Happiness Bayou Tours! Captain George was very knowledgeable and down to earth. He was born and raised in the area so he knows what he's doing. He made sure we were all safe on the boat and that we all had a great time by explaining everything to us and he also used a lot of his personal stories to engage us. Also if we had any questions he would always answer them for us. It was an awesome experience since we got to see the old levees that were built before hurricane Katrina and the new ones that were built after, his family camp on the bayou, swamp critters like crabs and spiders, and we got to see alligators and even held his baby gator Gatorade. I would totally recommend Captain George and Happiness Bayou Tours in a heartbeat!

My husband and I had a great time on this tour. Everyone was very friendly and Captain George was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. Be sure to call before buying to secure a spot.

My wife and I have gone on several swamp alligator tours in New Orleans over the past several years. It seems all the others have gotten too "touristy" and "commercial", almost makes you feel your at a Disneyland park tour. George and his wife run the real deal with Happiness Bayou Tours!! They are locals and George, not only is the owner operator & captain, he is an amazing local historian and story teller! He paints an amazing picture of pre and post Katrina, his own experience weathering the storm with his family & friends, along with how the Bayou has changed since the storm. We experienced our own little New Orleans rain storm while out on the water and George was kind enough to open up his "camp house" right on the Bayou and we all took cover until the storm blew over and were treated like family. It was such a unique experience!! He will also show you all the wild life that exists in the area! If you want to get a real education and experience on the Bayou, Happiness Tours is the only way to go! We can't wait to head back out again on our next trip! Added some photos to this review.

Really fun. The captain/tour guide was very knowledgeable, and of course holding the baby gator made it!

Owner Rob is a dishonest snake with low integrity…read more I booked a boat tour months in advance for a bachelor party after speaking directly with the owner, Rob. On our call, he reassured me multiple times that cancellations would be refundable, which was the only reason I felt comfortable booking so far ahead of our Dec 5th date. Four days before the trip, the weather forecast looked rough, so I called to ask about our options, including rescheduling or canceling. Rob was vague but again indicated that a refund would be possible if we chose to cancel. Based on those repeated assurances, I followed up the next day requesting a cancellation. Only then did the story change. Rob told me that a refund "wasn't financially possible," citing arrangements he had made. He didn't dispute what he had told me earlier--he just refused to honor it. I wouldn't book here again, and I'd strongly advise anyone considering it to get every policy in writing before handing over a deposit. Enjoy the $359.40 for providing absolutely nothing!

What could be better than a jazz cruise down the Mississippi river in New Orleans on Easter Sunday?…read more Taking the cruise in the rain. I fell in love with the Mississippi River on a rainy day Easter Sunday jazz cruise. The sky was gray and leaden. The rain was light but steady. The wind came and went. People wore their Easter finery with ponchos over their clothing to stay dry. We listened to jazz and ate muffins and drank coffee. We listened to the captain tell tales of New Orleans history and geography. We sat on benches overlooking the Mississippi River. We cuddled together with the wind blowing raindrops in our faces. The air was cool; the rain danced down. The wind played games with our ponchos and the purple scarf that I had wrapped around my head. The steamboat paddled along the Old Muddy. People sat in the dining room and the Captain's Salon. Others sat on the top deck in the rain. Teenagers took pictures standing at the bow under the American flag. Jazz played. Birds flew by. Two hours existed in a time capsule of wind and rain and music and water and joy.

Worth doing once, but overall nothing particularly special. The highlight for me was the narration…read morewhile we cruised down the river. Unfortunately the views were underwhelming, mostly businesses and factories when I had expected something more scenic. There was a jazz band playing on the lower level, and bars were set up on each floor, which was nice. What I didn't like was the photo op before boarding. They take your picture and then walk around trying to sell you an overpriced package afterward. You'd have the same experience on the Mark Twain Riverboat at Disneyland, except this was the real thing.

I booked an extended Manchac Swamp kayak tour during a visit to New Orleans in late February,…read morewanting to see the swamp and its wildlife in a more personal and eco-friendly way than the more popular airboat and alligator-feeding tours. My partner and I have some experience paddling and wanted plenty of time to see wildlife and get deep in the swamp for the best scenery, and for us the extended tour was the right choice! I'd recommend it to visitors to New Orleans who love nature, the outdoors, and/or getting a fun and unique workout in during vacation. We were on the water for about 4 hours. Sunscreen, sunglasses, shoes you don't mind getting wet, and PLENTY of water are a must! There are stops at a truck stop right before and after for the bathroom and buying any drinks/snacks, plus a stop on dry land during the tour. Our guide Nick was clearly dedicated to both paddling and nature even outside of work, and our tour felt less like a scripted performance as some tours can be and more like a buddy was showing and telling you things he was passionate about. We saw several small alligators, barred owls, hawks, turtles, and water birds. It was unseasonably warm so the reptiles were a treat to see, and it was awesome getting to see owls out in daylight which I'd never be able to pick out myself. Bring binoculars if you have them! My only small complaint, which has nothing to do with the tour itself: the AI-generated content on the company's Instagram page is kind of weird. Photos and videos from actual tours would be more honest and enticing!

So when we were planning a family trip recently, I remembered that and I was amazed to see that she was still in business and offering the same tour. I immediately signed all seven of us up. We were fortunate enough to go on the tour on a gorgeous spring day when it was warm enough for many bayou alligators to come out. We were also fortunate that Isabelle herself happened to be our tour guide/driver. So it's not surprising that we had a wonderful experience. But to me, the most impressive thing is that Isabelle has managed to keep her company going for 46 years through very tough times like Katrina in 2005 and then the disastrous Covid era. Now that I've finally met her, I think I see how she has survived. First, she has SO much in-depth knowledge of the area based on her experience, intellect, and personal connections. Second, she's warm and approachable (see attached photo), even posting her phone number on her toursbyisabelle.com website. Finally, there's a core of inner strength and decency - so all in all, I believe that this remarkable woman represents the best in American entrepreneurship.

Seems like there are several options for swamp tours but THIS is the one I highly recommend, and so happy I ended up with. As a solo traveler, I booked this one mainly because I was seeking hotel pick-up and a help with securing a small group airboat booking. Glad I did it- I received texts prior and day-of to ensure I was clear on pick-up and logistics. Driver was Dexter who was efficient with pick-up of all those in our group. Upon arrival, everything went smoothly with check-in (getting waivers signed, assigning you to specific airboats via kitschy-sounding "boarding pass" names). These guys are pros for sure, and "family-owned" you can tell throughout the establishment and workings (including their house cat who roams the premises, ha!) We were able to survey the shop/merch, decor, and had fangirl moment when we encountered the founder, Randy, who was so kind and happily took photos with us. The tour itself was so fun/exciting. You get it all- history of the swamp (including flora/fauna), Q&A re: alligators, alligator sightings, high-speed airboat treks, list goes on. Our operator was Dalton who was AMAZING. SO engaging, sweet, funny, and just so great with our eclectic group from all over the country. Highly recommended. More details/photos with the specific operator here: https://yelp.to/ce1lfFCbUo
