My first time trying Japan chocolate. Both staff was very nice and welcomed me in. They explained the chocolates and got to taste a couple samples. I saw the Rum and Raisin chocolate bar and had to buy it. It was so yummy. Thanks for the Royce bag with samples and Yelp items.
How did I not know there was a Royce in Houston ?! I was so excited to see that I had an Oporto join this event . The ladies in the store were so nice and informative . I enjoyed getting to try several of the flavors (and ended up buying the brandy infused one as a bday gift). The swag bag was a great touch and I loved that the yelp table was right up front
Everyone that knows me well knows that I enjoy fancy chocolate. Royce is always one of those places where I can get lost easily because I end up with several chocolates in hand and don't know which one to devour first! Having tried Royce on multiple occasions stemming back to New York City days, I knew this would again be a treat. The building is simple and inviting, with staff that were assisting other customers in store with product questions and selections. Check in was easy with the QR code and I got a little tour of the store and all the info I needed about their products. From nama chocolates to chocolate bars, chocolate covered potato chips to nuts, and wafers to cookies, and a variety of gift boxes...all were very enticing. I was given a few samples of their nama chocolate in milk and champagne, dark chocolate covered potato chips, wafers and cookies to try...very satisfying! On top of that, a Yelp bag with goodies inside. Definitely a great addition to my pin collection! Great event open to the Yelp community and would go back again and again. Thanks Jando and Yelp Houston for this sweet event!
I'm not big on eating sweets but when I do they are usually tiny, so this place was right up my alley! Such a huge variety of options. They have amazing packaging that really elevates the brand. The staff was very friendly and ready to take us on the mini tour through their business. Felt very welcomed right away. I will definitely swing by here the next time I have a sweet tooth and I'm around the Chinatown area!
Jose & the ROYCE Chocolate Factory! Is Royce selling chocolate or jewelry? Because when you step into Royce, the space feels and is set up in such a way that you feel you're entering a luxurious jewelry store and not just getting any chocolate. With the sales associates friendly, professional , ready to answer any questions, all that was missing was one of them bringing out an actual glass of champagne or wine to pair with the decadent sweets they are well knowledgeable about. I got to sample their Nama chocolates and each one was smooth, not overtly sweet and the "Champagne Pierre Mignon" was one of my favorite, so in a way yes, a glass of champagne was brought out. I also was fortunate to sample their Matcha Bar... a beautiful symphonic blend of crunchy white chocolate made with green tea and mixed nuts, anything with nuts always seems to tastes better, this confection was a delight to savor. Thank you to Jando, Yelp HTX and the friendly ROYCE associates that made this possible and the gift bag with more sweets and Yelp swag. Savory way to end the Houston Asian Pacific Islander (HAPI) series.
I got to try Royce for the first time a couple years ago via another Yelp elite event and then again more recently after my sister took a trip to Japan and came back with boxes of the Nama chocolates (which are the best). I loved receiving three samples of the Nama chocolates but their matcha was out of stock and I was hoping to try that or their strawberry Nama. The champagne Nama flavor really stood out to me. I also tried a piece of matcha chocolate and took a matcha bar home with the rest of my goodie bag. It's always amusing to me to see what themed swag and Knick knacks the Yelp team comes up with. Last time, I remember getting Yelp branded chopsticks. This time, the mini tape measure/leveler was my personal favorite. The two girls working inside Royce today were very sweet and welcoming and were knowledgeable on the products, offerings, rewards program, etc. Will be back for a special occasion or sooner to pick up some matcha Nama. Also, could someone be nice and tell my old self what this suction cup tool is for?
"She doesn't even go here!" Why, yes, I might mention that I don't actually eat chocolate (I'm dairy free). Why sign up for this event? I really enjoy trying new businesses and exploring new parts of town and Royce did just that. Royce has a wide selection of chocolates, cookies, and treats in a number of different flavors and beautiful packaging. The staff reported that their matcha chocolate has been a popular flavor and quickly sells out. Unlike like some other retailers, Royce also has a rotation of seasonal flavors including but not limited to pistachio chocolate and matcha chocolate covered potato chips. The store is clean, well-lit, and all items are marked with placards stating the type of chocolate, the price, and any allergens including milk, wheat, nuts, soy, and tree nuts. I sincerely appreciate this. While I did come to this event expecting not to be able to try anything, I was secretly hoping that they might have at least one dark chocolate without milk. No luck though. Not a problem. I was able to bring a friend who throughly enjoyed my samples and was able to take the chocolate goodies in the gift bag home. Royce seems like a great spot to pick up gifts for family and friends. While I wasn't able to try anything, I am still grateful for the opportunity to attend this event and pay it forward to my accompanying friend.
What a lovely experience. I admire Japanese culture and cuisines, so hearing these delectable chocolates are imported from Japan made this yelp experience extra special. I would have never guessed such a gem would be located conveniently in Chinatown. The set up is very nice and easy to read. I got to sample 3 of their chocolates. Learned about their refrigerated chocolates which was cool. The fact they pack the chocolates with an ice pack to go is very convenient for long trips home in this Texas heat. I ended up leaving with two boxes of chocolates, the matcha chocolate I tried was just sooooo good. Everyone who I had given a piece too has said this is some of the best chocolate they have ever tried. Cute little sample goody bag, I wish we could have tried more. But I will be back for sure! Love that they gave us a coupon to use for or next visit
I came here towards the end of the community week. I have tried ROYCE before in Japan and have tried one of their boxes in Houston. I was worried there won't be much left. Luckily, they had some good goodies and there were some nice treats that I never tired before. My favorite sample was the Baton Cookies, Hazel Cacao. So I plan to come back again and get more of that sample! The staff was quick and explained a few of the limited-time chocolate they have for this season.
Honestly probably one of my least favorite events. Trying chocolate was yummy. I especially liked the orange truffle chocolate they had. I kind of wish I just learned more about how they make their chocolate or got a behind the scenes look a bit more. Overall, this company seems really interesting just wanted a bit more in terms of the experience.

They are so decadent, and the chocolate just melts in your mouth Honestly, when I saw that there was an upcoming Royce Yelp event I put more effort than usual into making sure I RSVP'd early to ensure I was on the list The Royce shop is tucked away in the heart of Bellaire's Chinatown. Parking was a little tricky as the parking lot is one-way, but there are plenty of spaces. As you walk-in the store isn't overly spacious or flashy, but it serves its purpose... showcasing, serving, and selling delicious chocolate The staff were very friendly, helpful, and they allowed me to taste a variety of chocolates while receiving additional information. I inquired about some dark chocolate they had, and I received additional samples The packaging is chic and practical. The chocolate is protected in a box, wrapper, and shell. It is soft chocolate, and this helps it keep its shape. My order was also placed in a lovely cooling bag with a Royce branded ice pack. I was given instructions to refrigerate, and that the packaging and ice pack would keep the chocolate cold for an hour The Yelp goodie-bag was incredible, lots of amazing treats inside. I also now have a coupon for when I go back and buy more Some tips: I am a fan of dark chocolate, so, I purchased the half and half dark/milk combo (maroon box). I also enjoyed the champagne infused chocolate (green box). Since you are already in Chinatown, stop by one of the many amazing restaurants in the area. If you love Asian cuisine, you are in the right spot. If you have time, swing by the Claw Machine arcade next door for some fun. Cheers!!
Stopped by ROYCE' Chocolate in Bellaire for a HAPI Community Week event celebrating Asian Pacific American heritage, and it was such a great little treat (literally and figuratively). I'm pretty familiar with Houston's Asia Town, but I hadn't had a chance to visit this shop before so this was the perfect excuse. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the friendly staff who had everything ready for us. After checking in, I got a goodie bag with some fun Yelp items, a $10 off coupon, and chocolate samples to try. We got to taste a few things: *The Nama Chocolate "Au Lait" - super rich and creamy with a hint of liqueur *A matcha chocolate bar - smooth and earthy, really nice flavor *And the potatochip chocolate - definitely one of the more unique things I've tried. Salty chip on one side, dark chocolate on the other. Surprisingly works. The shop itself is clean, modern, and well air-conditioned, which was a huge plus on a hot day. If you grab any of their chilled chocolates, they even pack it in a mini cooler to keep it fresh for a few hours. Overall, it was a fun visit and a sweet way to celebrate the occasion. Big thanks to Jando and the ROYCE' team for putting this great event together!
I had a super positive experience at this weeklong event. The place was spotless and parking was a breeze. I enjoyed the samples and even browsed a bit, with the chocolate covered chips peeking my interest. To my surprise they offered me a sample and it was the dreamiest sweet and salty mixture. The staff were amazing and very knowledgeable on all the products. Normally I don't like matcha but their sample reminded me of white chocolate so I loved that one as well. I would definitely go back for the chips and to try out some of their pistachio products. Thank you for this experience. Great way to end the work week
Located in China Town, this not so new Royce chocolate location is a small but posh looking store. Their seasonal products are right at the entrance; Their bars, and wafers occupy one wall, and the chocolate dipped chips, and sample boxes on the other wall. Their signature product Nama chocolates are in a refrigerated environment near the billing area. Got a taste of two as samplers: 1. Non alcoholic dark chocolate : Ghana Bitter: really good. 2. Other, supposedly had a bit of an alcohol.- Champagne Pierre Mignon : This was more milk chocolate based and I loved it. The ladies at the counter were very friendly and took time to explain about the origin, the specialties, where do the authentic ingredients come from, the various seasonal flavors, the rewards membership etc. They even gave out dark chocolate samples very generously. Additionally, they had their chocolate dipped chips ready to savor as well. (yum) The chocolates come from Japan, in particular, Hokkaido. The variety available is reasonable and orders can be placed online as well. Their Nama chocolates come with an ice box which make them safe for the next 4 hours on the road - I thought that was pretty cool. They had a pre-packed goody bag ready for the elites, which contained some knick-knacks from Yelp, and a couple of sample piece chocolates. In store, I was wondering how the chocolate wafers tasted, and so I was especially glad to find one in my goody bag. There is a discount coupon as well in the goody bag, good for $10 off for a $50 purchase by July. Membership is easy, and once you earn 5 stars, you get to take a box of Nama chocolates for free ! I have eaten Royce before online, but in store looked as tasted so much better. Thank you Yelp and Royce for this sweet treat on a warm day. read more
Love visiting and learning about ROYCE' Chocolates. The decadent chocolates are precisely crafted using the smoothest ingredients. Founded in 1983, ROYCE' has been making exquisite confections in Hokkaido, which is the northernmost island of Japan. The cool climate is the perfect environment for creating these delicious creamy treats. The first store in the US opened in 2012 on Madison Avenue in NYC. Interesting to hear about the store in Houston, in the heart of Chinatown. So lucky to be able to sample two Nama Chocolate flavors. My hands down favorite was the Nama Chocolate Champagne Pierre Mignon. Made with milk chocolate and fresh cream and lightly infused with champagne, it just melts in your mouth for an exquisite treat of unbelievable flavor. The Nama Ghana Bitter Chocolate is a liquor-free confection made with milk chocolate and fresh cream. It is so smooth but was a bit bitter for me. The Nama Chocolates need to be refrigerated as they are made with fresh cream. They are packed with an ice pack for the drive home. They are good for about 30 days, if they last that long. Spend $50 or more and you can get $10 off with the discount coupon in the swag bag. Good until the end of July. So many other delicious treats are available to purchase as well, like their famous chocolate covered potato chips, pistachio chocolates and chocolate coins. After spending nearly a month in Japan earlier this year (plus a week in the hospital for something I picked up over there) I am obviously a big fan of Japan and Japanese-adjacent stuff we have successfully culturally appropriated including iced matcha lattes and me trying to explain to befuddled British boomers why Hiromi Kawakama's Strange Weather in Tokyo is the most interesting book I have read for leisure in a long time, given that I usually read 60+ books for leisure every year in airports on delays, in airplanes, and on foreign beaches when I am trying to relax. When I saw this event hit the elites-only calendar a while back my skirt was blown up, over, and off. I immediately RSVPed. I hit the guest list just in time for the event to be pushed back due to technical issues at ROYCE and then the event changed from elites only to anyone with a yelpin' account so we had to newly RSVP again. So I eagerly anticipated the event getting underway when I got back on the guest list for this event over the weekend while I was in Dallas on bidness. I missed the first day of the event yesterday still attending to said Dallas bidness, but I got the last flight back to Houston last night so I was ready to go when ROYCE opened today. I do not often come to this part of town as it is always heavy traffic at every time of day and it is just so far out in the suburbs just off the 8 loop. Most times I am out here it is because of a yelp situation like when the Japanese curry place opened up pre-pandemic. So that is what brought me back to this part of town today. This was an elegant, fancy experience. Easy five stars since this is the kind of experience that just makes you feel happy and special. A lot of energy from official yelp and Jando's crew went into shaping this experience and it definitely paid off. Likewise, ROYCE wanted to show off how they are a luxury brand and that definitely came across in the way they treated you. This felt like shopping in the Louis Vuitton, not like at Sears. Since the signs are weird as you approach on Bellaire, the store is on the perpendicular of the strip mall to Bellaire, it is not facing Bellaire. When I arrived there was plenty of parking on the lot facing Bellaire as well as the lot facing the store. It is a small store so with a small handful of people it is going to start feeling crowded. The yelp stuff is off in the corner to the right as soon as you walk in. The young lady behind the register gave me the introduction to the brand after getting me checked in from the list. We talked about what their most popular item is, unsurprisingly the NAMA chocolate. She answered all of my questions about the brand and I got my three samples - dark chocolate NAMA piece on a toothpick (you could get champagne chocolate, but why?) followed by chocolate on a potato chip which was positively divine. Then a matcha thing I saved for another day since my breakfast was already Trader Joe gummies so I was trying to eat something besides candy today. There was no hard sell. The young lady did not even mention there was a coupon in the bag for later. I liked this. Let the samples in the store speak for themselves. Let the little samples in the goodie bag speak for themselves later. Then come back on your own. High pressure sales tactics do not work in shops and I do not want to reward them. However the polite Japanese salaryman treatment that you know best and you will be back if it is best for you, I really do like that, so I will definitely be back for some bags of those chocolate potato chips and perhaps more. Huge thanks to Jando and his crew for arranging this experience for all yelpers, not just us elites. Currently in a chocolate coma The drive to Royce was so quick and easy from Katy. Located in Bellaire, Royce' chocolate offers so many varieties of Japanese chocolate. These chocolates come from Hokkaido. I was able to try three different pieces of the famous "Nama" chocolate. I never knew what it was! And what a wonderful opportunity to try it. Nama chocolate is made with fresh cream! The texture for each type was so smooth and instantly melts in your mouth. I ended up buying one of the Nama chocolate boxes to go, and they conveniently put it in an ice bag pack so you can keep it in the car and drive around until you get home! The gift bag was super cute for Yelpers upon arrival. The amount of information given about all the chocolates was so wonderful. I loved this opportunity! The pistachio items are popular and several items were sold out. I was able to purchase Royce' Bar Chocolate Pistachio for $16. My favorite flavor was the champagne chocolate which was stored cold. I was so impressed by this yelp event! The employee at the counter was so pleasant and helpful. She checked us in quickly and proceeded to explain the shop and inventory. She also had samples of various flavors and textures to offer us. The shop itself was pristine and extremely well lit and organized. It was easy to find the boxes and bars and the she explained the flavorings to us perfectly. The chocolate was amazing! I felt like I was getting a tasting at Willy Wonka's! My favorites were the milk chocolate bourbon chocolate and the matcha. I ended up purchasing some chocolate because of how tasty it was. The gift bags were also classy and fun, with a coupon, several pieces of chocolate samples, stickers and other cute items. A great event overall! read more
This was a neat event for a YES newbie. I've seen ROYCE in passing in the area many times and wondered what it was like inside. Now I had the perfect reason to visit! It's pristine inside, far more similar to a gallery or jewelry store experience than a candy store. They clearly take pride in the quality chocolate products they sell here. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. They provided samples of products generously considering the cost of the chocolates and cookies. It was enjoyable to ask them questions about the different products and ingredients used. They let me sample 2 nama chocolates, 2 chocolate wafers, and 1 matcha chocolate cookie. Plus a few chocolates in the goodie bag! The goodie bag also included a $10 off $50 coupon, which I didn't end up using because I couldn't justify buying $40 of chocolate at that time but I did buy one box of the rich nama chocolates to share. I would consider going again if I need a nice gift for someone who appreciates high qualitie chocolate. read more
I love ROYCE for many years now, ever since that first time my mom brought back a Matcha Nama box from Japan. I was so excited for this event!! I had such a great experience at the store today. I was welcomed by Millie as soon as I walked in. She explained how Nama chocolate is made and stored to keep the chocolate fresh, as well as the popular products in the store. I sampled a dark liquor-free chocolate and Brandy milk chocolate. Both are delicious! There are very interesting seasonal products, including several pistachio chocolates! I had to get the pistachio bar, and immediately tried when I got home. It's so good! There are whole pistachios in it! The goodies bag I got included several ROYCE samples, some cute Yelp trinkets and a coupon for future use. I'm saving some samples for later but have tried the matcha waffles, absolutely love it! read more

Imported straight from Hokkaido, this isn't your average chocolate shop. This is luxury, elegance, and indulgence all wrapped up (literally) in beautiful packaging and chilled to perfection. I was lucky enough to sample their famous Nama chocolate, and let me just say this little square of heaven did not come to play. It was creamy, smooth, and so velvety it practically evaporated on my tongue. Not too rich, not too sweet... just right. I had to mentally prepare myself not to buy an entire tray and eat it in the car. They also offer a wide range of chocolate bars, truffles, and beautifully curated gift boxes. To celebrate HAPI Community Week, our stop was at this charming place where Chocolate melts in your mouth, and if just for a moment allows to escape in a Chocolate coated bliss! Smooth and creamy, and special with a unique array of choices and flavors Royce offers nice selections. Shout out to Millie for welcoming me, after having me sign in on a post-it pad, she shared information about the various chocolates from seasonal, samplers, and standard items for purchase and provided samples for me. My favorite was the chocolate covered potato chips. It was delicious! I selected the Blueberry Chocolate...packaged in a gorgeous box, I can't wait to take it home and try it, my mouth is watering already. Thank you Jando for the very special event. This place was so good!! i'm not the biggest chocolate girl but they gave us these almost fudge like, cold chocolates and i fell in love . they had so much variety and everything was so clean and in such nice packaging. i believe they told us all their chocolate was from japan and the employees did such a good job at explaining the different flavors (it's a shame i don't remember really). i would definitely come here again especially if i was looking to buy a present for a housewarming or a coworker! read more
I have always wanted to but never tried Royce before! After this event, I will definitely come back to try more. I got to try their white chocolate matcha, dark chocolate, and a chocolate potato chip. Their white chocolate matcha was sweet but very well balanced, this is my personal favorite. Surprisingly, I really liked the chocolate potato chips. Next time I visit, I will be buying the potato chips for my friends and family to try! read more

I've always heard about Royce but have never tried it before. This small shop in the middle of a bustling Chinatown sells high end chocolates from Hokkaido in Japan. The workers let me taste some samples, gave me a run down on the backstory of Royce, and gave me a yelp swag bag with some complimentary chocolates and yelp swag. They let me sample their white chocolate matcha, a dark chocolate, one of their crisps, and their nama chocolate. I really enjoyed the matcha and Nama chocolate. The matcha had a deep and strong flavor. The Nama chocolate had to be refrigerated and was very creamy with a melt in your mouth sensation. Visited Royce chocolates for HAPI week, and let me tell you this chocolate gave me the best jolt ever. I learned the history of the store, the difference between which chocolate needs to be chilled and which can be room temperature. They had fantastic chocolates for gift baskets. We sampled the infused chocolates, and toasted chocolate disks with my baby. We even tried the chocolate potato chips which were good but I'm not a dark chocolate girl. Wow!! This is legit the best chocolate I have ever tasted. I'm not a huge chocolate fan but am always down to give anything a try, and boy, am I glad I did. This is my new chocolate go to place! The packages are so fancy looking which also makes for great gifts. My favorites were the matcha, and champagne chocolates. read more

This was a great experience and introduced me to this amazing chocolate spot that I otherwise would notbhave known about. Having recently tried chocolate wafers from Hokkaido, I was excited to sample the offering at Royce chocolate. The milk chocolate potato chip was a perfect blend of sweet and salty with a delectable crunch. The champagne chocolates (both milk and dark) were smooth, although I am partial to dark. I was able to take the time to peruse the selection of unique chocolates and gift boxes and took advantage of the $10 off $50 coupon in the goodie bag. read more

Royce chocolate located in a busy shopping center right off Bellaire, is luxury handcrafted chocolate from Japan (Hokkaido). Millie's warm smile greeted me as soon as I entered the small boutique shop. There was a slight hiccup in regards to checking in for the event. I scanned the Yelp barcode and checked in on the app, however no QR code popped up. Which it didn't specify they would be scanning a QR code in the confirmation email but Millie advised me she needed to scan a code on my phone. I told her my email stated to give her my name and I should be on the list. Which she had no list. Just a sticky note and a pad and told me to write my name down. Millie was super nice about the mixup and offered me some samples while she sorted everything out. My first sample was NAMA chocolate. Sweet, creamy and delicious. It literally melts in your mouth. Not too rich but perfectly sweet. Was probably my favorite out of everything I sampled. Another yummy treat was the chocolate covered ruffle potato chips. They come in milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate. Surprisingly very good! They offer a variety of chocolate bars and gift boxes for special occasions. Millie gave me a few more extra samples in my goodie bag as I headed out. Going to ROYCE was a really cool experience. Thank you Yelp for this opportunity to visit a business that wasn't on my radar. At this event we were able to sample a variety of there Japanese confections along with a discussions about each items. The star of the show was the Nama chocolates which are infused with alcohol. They are soft and decadent and you can really taste the slight alcohol flavor without it being overwhelming. It's also nice that they offer ice packs for transport home so they don't melt. The chocolate covered potato chips were really fun and the sweet/salty combo is awesome. Other selection included chocolate dipped wafers and cookies. I really liked the matcha flavor. The shop is very cute and the employees were really knowledgeable. Any question that you have they will be able to answer it with so much detail. These chocolates are perfect for a gift to others or yourself. read more
