After a nice dinner at Josefina, a friend and I stopped by Hangar 52 to catch a beer on our way home. Hangar 52 was very busy and it seemed really hip and fun from the street. We walked in to see it was well-populated, blasted good music and seemed to have an extrensive beer menu. We went up to order at the bar and were instructed to pay first before we order. Odd system, but certainly not a problem! We went to the sole cashier who had a poorly-filed line of people waitng to pay. The line was slow and not well-indicated where you are suppose to stand in order to be in the correct spot. We got to the front and went to order our two American Nitro IPAs. We were told to order with the bartenders once we had paid. Yet another odd system. We paid for the beers and received two tickets for beer. We ordered from the bar and received our beers and grabbed a table near the front door. We watched people file and in and out and have the same system of confusion for orderng that we did. Also, the front door has a handle you need to turn, then opens inward and has a large step down to the street. We viewed people struggle to open the door, then many have to catch themselves before falling from the large step. The place could use a walk-through and some logistics-advice.
Our beers were fine. I clearly wsn't expecting a genuine America IPA, but was still left wanting something a bit more flavorful then our simple and under-hopped IPA that seemed moe like ambers.
The place was packed, so it's clearly not terrible to everyone! Given a return to Mendoza, I would try a new bar next time. read more
