When you are in chronic pain, there's nothing more important than feeling hopeful, getting excellent treatment, and feeling like you have a provider who truly cares and who will put their 1000% into helping you. Candy helped me significantly, and to push me further into my recovery when it was clear the issue exceeded beyond my arms and hands, she focused on the whole body by connected me to excellent physical therapist, neurologist, and primary care physician. I am so grateful that she is here, and I know that I can always have an appointment to use her problem-solving skills and knowledge if needed. Update: I woke up this morning to a wonderful email from the owner of the company. She apologized profusely and promised to work with the employee to better customer relations. As a small business owner myself, I understand the importance of positive customer feedback and having positive customer interactions. So I wanted to provide an update especially one I am rather pleased with. My original complaint was based on my experience with 1 employee. Changing my review from 1 star due to this resolution and the professionalism and expertise of the business as a whole. I am incredibly disappointed in the level of customer service received today by an employee at this establishment. I came into the Pikesville location approximately 2 weeks ago and asked one of the employees behind about the desk about paying my outstanding balance. I was informed at that time, that it was acceptable for me to pay at my next visit (which was already scheduled) as they were attempting to determine my patient responsibility. Last night, I forwarded my new referral to Hands On and received an email back thanking me for the referral, but also indicating that invoices were sent to me multiple times and I needed to pay now or come prepared to pay at the next visit. I searched my emails and found the invoices, however up until this point, last night, I had NO idea they were sent via email. I never received any mailed invoices and again, when I was there 2 weeks ago, I was informed I could pay at my next, scheduled visit. However, I did pull up the invoices and attempted to pay. I emailed the company back and informed them that I attempted to pay the electronic invoice, however on my end it was blank. The response from the employee was, I tried it on my end and it worked. I screenshot the view from my end and offered to take care of it at my appointment the following day. I asked if there was anything that could be done about the late fees that were assessed since I did not realize the invoices were emailed and I asked 2 weeks ago about paying my balance and I was willing to take care of it electronically right away if I would have worked on my end and this is when things got really out of hand. The response back was we emailed statements on multiple occasions and as far as I can tell there was never any question about patient responsibility (which contradicts what I was told in the office 2 weeks ago). She went on to say that she cannot waive the late fees and she can process a payment over the phone so it is handled prior to my next appointment (which contradicts her earlier email saying I could pay my balance when I come into the office next). At this point, my next appointment was in less than 24 hours. I called to explain to her that my wife handles all of the insurance and health related things and I had no idea that the invoices were even emailed. I told her what the employee had said to me at my last appointment and received a combat response, Mr. Brown we have been on the phone for like 10 mins (my phone showed a little over 4) and you have yet to give me your credit card information. It was also mentioned that I am lucky my $232 balance wasn't referred to small claims court and that they should no longer see me as a patient because I owed said balance. I am a disabled veteran and this has been the only relief to the issues I have been experiencing with my hand. I have never been spoken to in such a rude, combative and condescending tone. Needless to say, I will let my ortho doctor at Johns Hopkins know about the issues I experienced here as I was informed that they often refer their patients to Hands On and will never return for any therapy even though I was set up for 12 additional visits. No empathy or willing to work together to resolve issues. read more

I don't know where to begin, #1 I'm, typing this review using my "no longer injured left hand". I selected the Purple House. Candy, Tara, Jordyn, Shannon are simply the best. The therapists, Candy & Tara are very compassionate and they truly care about your healing process. The atmosphere is very laid back and homey, not stuffy and clinical. Don't get me wrong, they are very professional and knowledgeable about the human body. I have learned so much about my hands, connecting bones, etc. By my 3rd visit my left hand was feeling better but today, my 6th visit I can actually make a fist which I could not do before!! The receptionist Shannon is arrogant and disrespectful. They made several mistakes and scheduling my physical therapy and then charge me several times for missed appointments that were not my fault. When I tried to contact someone above her she refused to let me speak with anyone and continually hangs up the phone and then does not pick up when I call back. I have tried many times to get a hold of her superior so that I could Contest the charges and she tells me I am not a patient anymore and hangs up on me. They have refused to give me my discharge papers and refused to see me based on fees they charged me for there own scheduling mistakes. Throughout my treatment they told me many times I Needed a form from my insurance company. Told them several times the insurance company told me I did not need the form. The first time this happened, They cleared the problem out and told me they were sorry. Two weeks later the same rep told me I needed another referral and I went through the entire process again. My lawyer says they have broken the law by charging me and refusing to treat me based on that premise. This place is extremely unorganized with absolutely horrible customer service and I strongly recommend that you stay far, far away. To be totally fair, My physical therapy visits to their office on Wilkens Avenue were wonderful. The therapy techs were amazing and I just feel bad that they work for such a horribly unprofessional, disorganized joke of a franchise. read more

I broke my wrist in July, 2015 and had surgery. The surgeon referred me to Hands on Therapy. Since I had never broken anything on my body, I didn't know what to expect in therapy. I attended the Catonsville office and from the very first day, the staff put me at ease, Laura, Shannon & Samantha and I met Tara at my second appointment. I am appreciative of the stretches, pulling, tugging and heat. Candy and her Catonsville staff are amazing and I thank them for all they have done for me to help me do for myself. I thank them for their professionalism, expertise and dedication. I am not limited, so far, to what I can do with my wrist and I have complete use. Although I have stopped therapy, I am doing strengthening exercises, as instructed, at home. read more

Best OT in the area. The compassion and expertise of the people there is by far the best. Comfortable atmosphere. Would recommend them to anyone with an upper extremity injury. My son injured his left elbow, wrist, hand and fingers in an accident and I was lucky enough to find Hands On Therapy to help him. Candy, Shannon and Laura are amazing and we are truly grateful for their expertise, professionalism, caring attitudes and accessibility. Candy has taken dedication to a new level. She even attended my son's visits with the hand surgeon, not only gaining information about providing the best treatment but also acting as a guide for me in this new and often overwhelming health scare. Laura is also a compassionate therapist who has impressed us. Now Shannon - what an amazing administrator!! Wonderful team at the Pink House - Woot Woot in Catonsville. I broke my wrist in Sept of 2015, and was very stiff, I have a plate and some screws. I was at another facility, and I asked the doctor could I switch to another therapy facility so they gave me Hands on Therapy and was praying that they were a great team, and yes they are. I also do the exercises for my fingers and wrist at home, they are working with me and they are very helpful in helping me getting better. My Girl Friend started her hand therapy at hands on therapy on june 18, 2015. Her appointment was at 9:45 am. Her gps was not working so she called the hands on therapy office. The front desk person gave her the wrong directions. (????) She was only two blocks away from the office but She could not find it because she was looking for a business in a strip mall by a dress shop cause those were the directions She got from the front desk person. She was driving around for about forty minutes before finding this place. It would have been very helpful to her if She was told that this business is located in a big purple house on a small no outlet street. She was so late by the time She found this house that However she missed most of her treatment for that day. The therapist let that go and scheduled my gf's next appointment, for june 22 at 11:30 am. I made sure She got there on time. She arrived at 11:25 am. She was not greated by the front desk person, the same person who could not give directions!!!! Someone from the back told my girl friend to come on back. She went and stood there waiting. She then asked where they wanted her to sit. My gf was then told She could sit anywhere. This woman named "Shannon" came over to her acting like My girl friend was bothering her just by her presents. She appeared to be very annoyed be her before She even said anything. Shannon was extremely rude to her. Questioning her about who sent her there and why. THESE QUESTIONS WERE ASKED WITH MUCH ATTITUDE. therefore She started to question who she was and why she was so rude and unprofessional. The therapist told my gf that this Shannon person is the tech. What, just a tech, someone who is only a helper. The person that keeps the towels clean. Why did she think she could speak to my girl any kind of way. Was it because She is black? She did notice that she did not talk to or treat the other white clients like she was treating my girl friend!!! Amazingly after I spoke up the Therapist apologized and the Shannon tech/helper changed her attitude. Also amazingly before My gf left more black people came in. This tech Shannon needs to learn that when you work in the health care field you will come across a variety of races. However we are all human and deserve to be treated with respect and equally! I have my Yelp account and write all these so many reviews to speak my voice and be heard! Hope they will lesson their lesson and learn to treat everyone equally no matter what race or color the patient is! I visit the Hands on Therapy center in White Marsh, Maryland. The staff at that site are experts in occupational therapy. I had been visiting another hand therapy center for several months, and was not pleased with that experience. My doctor mentioned that a second surgery may be needed; I instead opted for another course of therapy. Michelle, a truly compassionate OT, has made significant progress with my finger. I don't believe I'll need that second surgery! Patty is so friendly and keeps the office super organized and running efficiently. Don't hesitate to schedule an appointment with this group. read more

I fractured my pinky in Nov. of 2015 and had surgery to set the bone with 2 pins. I was referred to Hands on Therapy in White Marsh. I've never been to the Catonsville office since I live in White Marsh and was very grateful that they had an office on my side of town. Michelle, Karen and Joann were an AWESOME team at White Marsh!!!!! They always greet you with a warm smile and greeting as soon as you walk through the door! This small and intimate office gives you a warm, friendly and family atmosphere. Karen is always on top of appointments, therapy needs, and constantly praises you on your accomplishments. She is also very professional and friendly! Joann was a student who learned very quickly several techniques from Michelle. She was a very pleasant young lady that was always eager to learn. Michelle is so experienced in her field that her professionalism puts you at ease as she works on you. She gives awesome individualized attention, she makes sure that you understand your home therapy, and she is always excited and cheers you on throughout your therapy! They praise you on any step of progress you make, no matter how small and encourages you to push through your therapy.
