I saw a passport center where you can get your passport done. It was so fresh and so clean and vibrant with colors. There's a maker space you can do an orientation for and learn how to use the cricket or the 3-D art, printer or learn how to use a sewing machine. They also had an ancestry section. I'm looking forward to doing some more research and try to do the ancestry maybe next time I've also booked a passport appointment for next week. I'll update with how it went.

Before attending a Yelp Elite event in the Ocean View area almost two weeks ago, I stopped here for…read morea bit after work to enjoy some quiet time reading. I have slacked off a bit so having a moment to catch up was truly needed. Let's see how it turned out. The library itself is well kept. From the areas I walked in, everything was clean and books were in place. When you enter, there are automatic sliding doors and metal detectors. In the desk area, they even have plugs if you want to charge your phone or laptop, which definitely came in handy for yours truly. I spent the next hour or so reading a book from home or checking out news on my phone. Quiet time well spent before hanging out with friends. Libraries are needed for peace and relaxation and this one provided both. The next time I'm in the area for another event, I'll be sure to stop here :)

The Pearl Bailey Library is a cute little library right beside the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center (a great place to check out local artistry and amazing plays and performances). The library is clean and there were some friendly workers that helped my mother and I get our library cards for this city (we live in Hampton). They have a great selection of African American books from fiction to political. I also like the self-service kiosks that allow you to check out books without waiting in line, very cool! I found a few titles I've been wanting to read especially Zora Neale Hurston's Baracoon. Glad I found it here!

I didnt have my Library card when I went yesterday and expected to pay a small fee for a replacement but the lady at the front desk was able to verify me with my ID and wrote my library card # down on a piece of paper. I went yesterday because I needed to purchase "Something In The Water" tickets and I know they sell out quickly so i wanted to use my phone and computer simultaneously to increase my chances. I was successful by the way. 10 cents a page to print with black ink.

NN Library wont send you to collections or demand your first born child in fees. Nothing like back home as far as fees go. NN Library is lacking some books. I have tried to find various books by feminist authors, not carried. However they have a terrific young adult selection, fiction, kids, and cooking. They also have DVD's with 7 day loan (that is pretty long if you ask me). And they display local authors. Use your local library. Its freaking awesome.

Whether you're a student or not, this library is a significant asset to the Newport News community. Newport News has some fine libraries, but nothing that can compare to this one. I'm a bit timid to even write this review because I don't want too much of the public to start going there and right now the absence of other reviews on places like here likely contributes to it not being very crowded.
