We had a drink and waited in reception for our tables to be given to us. On being seated, the service was 100%. The food was astoundingly good, everything being homemade. The puds were delicious. All freshly cooked, including fresh veg as well. The staff were excellent, nothing was too much trouble for them. I ordered Tiramisu for my pudd, and it was served with cream, but I just fancied ice-cream with it, and my waitress said ok no problem, out she came with 2 scoops of ice-cream. We stayed in the Premier Inn hotel part for the full "George Elliot experience." The Premier Inn was relatively standard and nothing special or wrong. It was a pleasant stay and the hotel owner was very kind. He took us around the whole house and showed us all the George Elliot historical parts and told us the full history of the place. Regarding food, as the Griff House is pretty much in the middle of nowhere in England, the only option for food is the Beefeater restaurant that has also been built into the historic house. The Beefeater restaurant was decent but overpriced. At first when I had found this option for where to stay, I was a little skeptical and had uneasy feelings about a historical place being turned into something so commercial. However, they didn't do a bad job with the refurnishing and it was fun to stay in the house of such a great author! I definitely recommend it for all George Elliot fans.

As a travel critic and well known blogger with a focus on value, price gouging customers is not something I take lightly. When I asked the front desk clerk upon arrival why the price went up, I was told "That's the way we do it, prices change from day to day". Their "free" Internet was extremely difficult to connect to and so slow that it was useless, so we gave up rather than paying the extra £5 for "Premium" service, another indication that the company's greed outweighs customer needs and satisfaction. The room was so small that my wife and I had to take turns moving around the room because the double bed took up most of the room and while sitting at the small desk trying to connect to the useless Internet, my wife had to crawl over the bed to get around me and to her side of the bed. The staff at the adjoining Beefeater were great, but the food was mediocre and the prices quite high for what we got. My £15.99 ($22.60) sirloin must have been 8 ounces before cooking because it looked rather small and it was overcooked (I asked for medium-well and it was well-done). If a place called BEEFeater cannot cook a steak correctly, there must be something terribly wrong. The "unlimited" fries/chips were sparse and was never asked if I wanted more and the Cheddar, Pulled Ham and Mushroom Sauce (£1.99/$2.85 - bringing the total to £17.98/$25.45) was barely enough to cover the small steak. The only other thing I got on the plate was a single broiled tomato slice and one lonely sauteed mushroom. I can get quite a nice steak dinner at countless places in the States for $26, including a larger, better cut of meat and more/better fries, I would also get soup and/or salad, vegetables and bread for that price. Finally, I also found asking hotel guests to pay £8.95 ($25.30 for two) for breakfast also quite absurd. Whitbread (Premier Inn's parent company) obviously cares only about profit and not its customers and preserving their building's historical significance is clearly not a priority. They have ruined George Eliot's birthplace and childhood home both inside and out instead of restoring it to its former glory and taking advantage of Eliot's fame to bring her fans and English literature enthusiasts to Nuneaton and the property. How they got away with destroying such a historic property is unfathomable. The George Eliot Fellowship, dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of their famous, British namesake author and Nuneaton resident, has attempted, unsuccessfully, to persuade Premier Inn, Beefeater and Whitbread to restore the property to its former glory, promoting Eliot and Nuneaton with the respect they deserve. One would think the conglomerate would welcome the notoriety and income from such a famous and historic association, but with a 95% property capacity utilization rate, they apparently simply do not care. I can describe the service that was received as adequate, there was however a long wait (25 minutes +) at a time when there were not a huge amount of people dining. Additionally my companion and I witnessed a member of the bar staff and manager in conversation for a number of minutes whilst there were people waiting to be served. Ordered a chicken burrito and asked for a particular dressing not to be added to the dish (due to potential allergies), the person who took my order stated that this would not be a problem. When the meal arrived the stated dressing was in the burrito. I asked for this to be changed, only to be informed that the dressing could not be removed as the dressing was part of the chicken 'mix'. Suffice to say I did not eat the meal and requested my money back. I was reimbursed without issue (an interesting note is that I paid on card, however my refund was given to me in cash - I am not sure if this is legal??) I can safely say that given this experience and seeing the declining quality of the establishment over the years this venue will be extremely low on my list of dining places (if it is even on the list) to visit in future.

The pub has recently had a face lift which has made it more spacious inside. The 4 piece screen for sports is somewhat not to everyones taste but this isn't something that personally bothers me. I've used this venue for the works christmas do and have always had a good time with the funny photo shoots and disco. I've slept in the hotel and have had a good nights' sleep surprising of the plentiful of activity going on in the bar. The pub has recently introduced challenging foods to eat like a huge beef burger and something of the spicy variety. I haven't had it my self but know someone who has and apparently wasn't all that tasty. From my own personal experience, food is a little on the basic and what I would relate to as a Weatherspoon's variety of meals. Simple and value for money, so if you are a big foodie expecting good quality you might want to look somewhere else. Some bad experiences I've had are on occasion, there has been a significant lack of staff which has led to long delays being served. Some drinks can be a little expensive so stick to conventional lagers. My wife pointed out that on one occasion when we stayed at the hotel a delivery driver came very early (roughly 5:30) and woke us up with the crashing and banging of the distribution mobiles. Perhaps some sound proof windows might resolve this or restrict the delivery times.

The carvery was best value and I enjoyed it. Bank's cask ale at £1.99pp plus lagers from £2.45 to £2.85pp. I stayed for two nights and will definitely use an Innkeepers lodge again.

The autodefenestrate 2000 booking system was a joy to use. It phoned me at a time convenient to me, knowing when that would be without my intervention or even previously contacting the venue. Given that my chaufeur driven limousine took fully 2 minutes longer than expected to get me to the palace, I was very much appreciative of the calming work provided by the complimentary hookers. first night was as expected, the building is beautiful an the rooms are decently sized for a small…read morehotel. the disability access was not very good, they're are disabled parking but there is not any way someone who is disabled to easily get to most of the rooms as there is no lift and the hand railings on the stairs are rickety. all of this would of been fine if the service didn't ruin my stay. me and my partner ordered room service to the room so we could stay out of the way of the wedding party's downstairs. when the room service arrived there was a rapid knock on the door clearly showing urgency and no declaration of room service like before when drinks alone were ordered. instead 3 people stood there with the 2 trays laughing at us who had ordered food to our rooms which if I'm not mistaken was allowed considering they brought it up and had no issue when we asked earlier in the night for a menu and what time the kitchen opened and when ordering over the phone. the behaviour of the 3 staff members was appealing and completely ruined my stay, so much that we have decided this hotel will not be the one we will be using when we wed like was originally planned.
