They say the three most stressful things an individual can go through are: job loss, death of a…read morefamily member and buying/moving into, a home. While Darren may not be an expert in death or job searches he certainly was top of his class when it came to embarking on the most stressful home purchase of all - my first. From day one Darren worked hard not only with my search but in explaining all the steps of a first time home purchase with me. Available at all hours via text, phone or email, not matter the time of day (or night) a response to one of my thousand asinine questions was always prompt and detailed, alleviating both stress and worry from the process. One thing I admired most about Darren was that depending whom he was speaking with, he could adapt his style to suit the situation. With me, once comfortable, he was more colloquial and casual, the two of us often shared a few hearty laughs and stories. Alternatively, when negotiating or dealing with inspections Darren was tough as nails and wouldn't back down from confrontation totally backing me up and fighting the good fights so I didn't have to. In addition to his vast knowledge of various neighborhoods, buildings and areas spanning from Newmarket/Bradford down into the city (as well as from Mississauga to Oshawa) Darren also came equipped with a long list of contacts for me to review for closing. everything from home inspectors, to lawyers to various personal contacts at banks so I could get that all important mortgage set up. I would HIGHLY recommend Darren to any of my young professional friends looking to buy their first place, AND after seeing his professionalism and decorum when dealing with my own parents concerns and questions, I feel he would be an asset to more seasoned buyers and sellers due to his network and knowledge of Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. Happily writing this review from my new condo!

[Update in response to business reply:] I want to clarify…read morethat I never asked Ben to lie or misrepresent anything (I have text correspondence to prove it). I simply requested discretion when presenting the lease application--something I later confirmed with another licensed real estate agent is entirely standard and ethical in this industry. Ben's reply avoids the core issue, which is that he disclosed private information against my clear instructions and responded with hostility and abusive language when I addressed it. Notably, in his response, he does not deny using the language I described--something that should give any prospective client, especially women, serious pause before deciding to work with him. Now that I've seen how he chooses to handle client concerns, it's clear he was never acting in my best interest. In hindsight, I'm relieved I never purchased a property through him--because the financial and emotional consequences would have been far greater. ------------------------------------------------- [Review update:] I had previously written a positive review for Ben Fenlon based on an experience in 2022, but I now feel obligated to update it after a recent encounter that was deeply unprofessional and unacceptable. When I attempted to lease a unit, Ben disregarded my clear instructions and disclosed private information to the listing agent without my consent--jeopardizing the deal and violating my trust. When I addressed this, he became aggressive and disrespectful. He raised his voice, used vulgar language, and told me that if I was going to "act bitchy," then the lease "wasn't worth his time" because the commission "wasn't high enough." I had asked Ben to follow a common and fully ethical approach, and to exercise discretion when presenting the application. I expected him, as my agent, to handle the process strategically and professionally, without disclosing unnecessary personal information that could weaken my position. Instead, he ignored my instructions, dismissed my concerns, and treated me with outright disrespect when I raised them. His conduct was not only unprofessional, but also at odds with the duty of care, loyalty, and discretion expected of a registered real estate professional under RECO's Code of Ethics. I can no longer recommend Ben's services under any circumstances.

We moved back to Toronto from San Francisco, and even before we arrived, Michael got to know us by phone and email and started sending us suitable listings. Once we arrived, he drove us to many properties, encouraging us to get our feet wet. There was never any pressure tactics or dire warnings. As first-time buyers, we had a million questions and concerns, so it was helpful that Michael also comes armed with a lot of knowledge about home renovations, inspections and all of the potential problems to look for. Throughout the process, he really got to know us and made great recommendations on what he thought would suit us best. He also connected us with a great mortgage broker as well as a property lawyer, who both gave us excellent service. And when we finally closed the deal, Michael helped negotiate our offer below listing price, while keeping expectations in check. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Michael to other people looking to buy a house -- he's friendly, cheerful, patient and hard-working.
