Traditional Pub with Tons of History…read more Really love this place. Quirky, eccentric, authentic. A visit to Platform is almost like a trip to a maritime museum. Not only is it the last known address of the last body pulled from the wreck of the Titanic (James McGrady), it is also where Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) won his ticket on the ill-fated voyage and is featured on the movie. Great selection of all the old pub favorites offered up by a jovial proprietor.

I stumbled upon this cozy pub while casually walking around the seafront of Southampton. The…read morechalkboard sign had a picture of the Titanic (afloat) and said it was something about it being "The Titanic Bar from the Movie" - which immediately peaked my curiosity. I entered through the rear door and it was dimly lit, with a small hallway to the main pub and a staircase to the upper level where the kitchen and toilets were located. There were two rooms of the pub, each with a bar and tables/booths. There was one bartender working, named Roo. He was so fun to talk to!! He told us about the history of the bar, the area, and gave us recommendations of places to sight-see during our brief trip to Southampton. He also had amazing beer/drink recommendations. We ended up talking to one of the regular patrons, who highly recommended the fish & chips. He was not lying, it really was *THE BEST* fish & chips I had during the entire trip. Really fresh fish and chips, really delicious!! It was the best I've had, ever I believe. The space is dimly lit, full of fun trinkets and memorabilia, and has a lot of character. I lost my mind for a moment when I found newspaper articles dated April 2012 from when the Titanic set sail and when it sank. THE newspaper articles. Adhered to the wall with scotch tape (!!). I asked Roo about the lack of preservation/security of these notable pieces of history and his response was, "nobody is going to take that, this is England!" Overall, a really fun experience and amazing fish & chips. I recommend and would 100% return if I was in Southampton again.

I got the last space, but I couldn't see if overflow parking was available. The appetisers were very good and beautifully presented. The duck that my friend had looked wonderful. Our main courses were very good. The cod was lovely and the steaks were nice. My steak was a little fatty and I found the gristle very chewy on the end piece. I also like my triple cooked chips a little more crispy, but that's just my taste. The desserts were lovely and again beautifully presented. The ginger cake with chocolate mousse and the ganache plate were particularly good. The table next to us has the beef wellington and I would definitely order that if I went again. It looked phenomenal! Overall a lovely experience.

Had the 3 course lunch menu for £38 (what a steal!). Lamb belly for starter was delicious, well seasoned and put together dish. Mains I tried the pork collar which was very good but the house made black pudding was phenomenal, best I have ever had..inventively spiced, wish I could buy a kilo to take home. Dessert was fig leaf panna cotta, light and flavoursome. Had a coffee with dessert which was also excellent. Its very clear that they try to do everything to the best standard possible. Wish I lived closer.

The music was a good volume so you could converse. We were still waiting for the rest of the party to arrive but were served immediately with a bottle of water and offered drinks. I ordered an iced caramel latte which was incredible. It had just enough coffee and was sweet and caramelly As I wasn't feeling super hungry, I ordered a starter as a main which they were happy to accommodate. I ordered the prawn cocktail starter and side of skinny fries. The fries were crispy but not too crispy and did not need a lot of salt. The prawn cocktail was lovely, really tasty sauce. It came with 2 king prawns and the waitress also bought me sourdough at an additional £1 cost. I would say that there were slightly too many herbs in the prawn cocktail but it was still delicious. Overall, we all really enjoyed our meal, the vibe was lovely, staff were friendly and the food was great.

Sometimes the first, sometimes the latter, most times both. Ok, throw everything I said out of the window here. Ambiance, meal and beverage were outstanding by pub standards to the level of gastropub. I had the burger, fries and my companions had the fish and chips. We all had cocktails and assorted beer on tap. I loved my cocktail enough to have two. The prices are rather steep (or rather dear) as the locals might say. But the ambiance and quality make up for that. The outdoor seating is nice as well.
