    Ice cream! Really good!

Do you want to spend a morning going to a streetcar railway? We did! We got a "old-school" looking ticket which was a nice touch and we boarded the streetcar. The first one was bumpy and over 100 years old! The ride also had a some mosquitoes so bring bug spray! We then passed by a shelter & and frog pond with, (you guessed it!) more mosquitoes! We then got some ice cream, I got a mocha chocolate flavour (I think) and it was delicious ! On the ride back it was less bumpy since it was a newer streetcar, and then we went to the museum! There was so many streetcars to look at or go inside! There was ones from Chicago, Toronto, and Montreal! They had a little gift shop which we took a look at. I would recommend going if you want to see AND ride historic streetcars!

We spent some time yesterday afternoon at the Halton Country Radial Railway in Milton. If you are into trains or are looking for something different to do, you should check it out. It is run by volunteers who are passionate about preserving the railway cars and sharing this passion. Admission was $15 each and included unlimited historic streetcar rides on two kilometers of scenic track, which stopped at their famous ice cream shop (approximately a 20 minute ride), access to the grounds, display barns and the historic Rockwood Station. No admission is required to their gift shop where you can find unique railway inspired gifts and tasty treats. Parking is free. There are two streetcars that ride the track, alternating every half hour. The next in line one for us was the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Fleet #2894. It was built in 1923 and retired from the TTC in 1963 (it was the last car to operate on the Dupont route). It was restored and used as a tour tram from 1973 until 1986. The second streetcar that rides the track is the TTC Fleet #327. It was built in 1933 for Toronto's centennial in 1934 using truck and components salvaged from an original #327 built in 1892. The next ride was at 12:30pm so we spent some time touring the Rockwood Station. Originally built in 1912, this building was moved to the museum in the 1970s from Rockwood (a town about five minutes north). When it was 12:30pm, it was time to board the #2894. Brian, the conductor, explained to Gord and I how to drive the streetcar. He was very knowledgeable. It was a lovely ride through the woods. We stopped about halfway at Meadowvale station, which was the original shelter at the Mealdowvale stop along the Toronto Suburban line. You can stay on the streetcar if you want and head back to Rockwood Station (where we started) or you can get off and catch the next streetcar that comes back in a half hour (we got off). At Meadowvale Station, there is a rock garden and a frog pond ... we wondered over to the frog pond and there were tons of frogs and fishes. There's lots of space to wander around and/or relax. We had an ice cream at the East End Cafe, a restored streetcar. We wandered over to the Grand River Railway Shop and took a look at the London & Port Stanley Railway Fleet #8. It was built in 1915 and retired in 1961. Then we wandered over to the check out the garage full of buses, streetcars and more. It was fun to be able to wander around and climb into the cars. Imagine the stories they could tell!! I was expecting a few cars but there were lots!

A great place for anyone who is interested in trains and streetcars. I brought my 3 yr old and we were there for the morning. The volunteers are wonderful and very knowledgeable.

It takes about 2 hours to explore the grounds starting with the entrance from the Region of Waterloo Museum which is connected to the Doon Heritage Village on Huron Road. Staff are wonderful at answering questions and showing how the old tools and equipment were used back then. Some of the old tools are just rock solid and will last forever. Wood was the primary construction materials used for building. This explains why fire insurance was a fast growing business. Insurance companies in the Region thrived and made the economy grow in that sector for years to come. The Martin House is beautifully decorated inside and out. The family was of Old Order Mennonite religion. There were very conservative colour schemes used, and no mirrors were allowed in the home! The Old Post Office is connected to a custom tailor service in the same building. Our hostess explained how the one man operation (tailor and postmaster) was in charge of both businesses. Suits were made to order and were outfitted with ties and cuff links. It was a profitable venture until the Eaton's catalogue business became more popular. The Dry Goods Grocery Store is "stocked" with canned goods and non-perishables such as soap and laundry detergent. Brand names included McCormicks and Heinz. Homes were equipped with a cast iron stove that kept the premises warmer in the winter months. Check out the feet of the stoves which were designed like ones you would find on vintage pianos. Very enjoyable afternoon spent and we learned a lot about early life and hard work of the German community and how it all started in Kitchener (then known as Berlin).

If you want to splurge and park a bit closer, there are a few metered spots available right in front of the museum. I highly recommend purchasing your tickets in advance online to ensure that you get the time you want. I would also look for discounts. I was able to snag a Groupon for this place and it saved me quiet a few bucks. The staff at the museum are awesome. They were very welcoming, friendly, courteous, and helpful. They gave us our space, but stepped in to explain an illusion when we were looking puzzled or stumped. On downfall of this place is that it is not very big. We went through the meusuem in about 40 minutes, and that was stretching it out. Some of our favorite illusions were the clone card table, the galaxy room, the human kaleidoscope, the Tilted Room, the Reverse Room, the Ames Room (shrinking room), the human potted plant, 3D art, the RGB screen, shadow box/flash screen, the Beuchet Chair Illusion, hollow face illusion, swap noses illusion, infinity ladder and various other illusions such as the Müller-Lyer illusion and illusory motion. The museum's couch illusion appears to be unique to this location and is featured. It has the person put part of their body in a hole in the couch and using a fake pair of legs, make it look like they are doing some impossible poses. This is a very nice museum that is a decent place to spend a little time. It is about 30 minutes or so outside of Toronto and my family really enjoyed taking photos there. I wish this place was bigger, but I still highly recommend checking this place out.

Followed by another employee, Simrin popping out of nowhere as well and asked JJ, "you good"? For almost $100 for two kids and an adult, and how this place has gone downhill. You are better off visiting a real museum whether it be Toronto over time Niagara Falls. And given the price being charged for admission, you'd think that they would be able to purchase a new watering can. Has no one noticed that the handle is missing/broken off? Not worth it. I should say that Gordan was/is extremely kid friendly, even did a little magic show for my kids and then told them the secret to it lol l am happily amazed with this place and will make sure to spread word of mouth of how incredible and great this place is. Price point is great especially for a family of 4; 2 adults and two children. I would give it a 10/10 but there was no option for it. Any day of the week, this is a fun activity, whether for kids or adults or both. Explore away.

It's certainly entertaining. The exhibit consists of a guided tour of about 5 main showrooms: 1. Mechanized Brachiosaurus + dinosaur incubator/hatchery. 2. Human in a Velociraptor costume. 3. Mechanized T-Rex. 4. Mechanized Ankylosaurus. 5. Two large dinosaurs from the T-rex family. The animatronics is pretty good. The robots are large, with pretty fluid motion. The skin is very realistic looking. On the down side, it's not a very elaborate exhibit. It's only 5 rooms, with some waiting areas between the rooms. The exhibit lasts 45 minutes. The prices are steep. Adults are $45.99. Children 3-15 are $36.99. So, you don't get a good value for your hard-eaned money. There are rangers/actors throughout the exhibit. They help make the exhibition a little more lively. The exhibit is entertaining for all ages, but is probably better suited for young kids (about 4-10). What would improve the experience? 1. Reduce the prices. 2. Give the rangers/actors better speakers. It was very difficult to hear what they were saying. 3. Improve on the backdrops. They are large drapes which are somewhat uninspired. 4. Improve on the lighting/sound. You could create much more dramatic setting by putting on some loud speakers. 5. Improve on the giftshop. Drop the prices, and add more items.
