I am writing in response to the 1-star review due to a financial aid issue. I am sorry your girlfriend had a negative experience with her grant. However, this does not define the entire college or mean this is a typical experience. If student at any college has a concern, there are financial aid folks who can assist directly on each campus. If a student does not feel their situation has been resolved, they can contact their campus dean or department supervisor. WSCC has been awarded Community College of the Year in Tennessee two years in a row. That is a testament to every person on every campus. We have also been awarded many other accolades. I have seen firsthand the transformation and positive impact our college has had on our students and community. I am proud to work for WSCC and believe what we offer is exceptional.

Okay just to let people know some insight about this college. I have not gone to this college…read morepersonally but my girlfriend goes to this college. I would never invite anyone to go to this college if you are not rich. During orientation the advisor said that they offered student loans. Whenever you call down to financial aid they tell you they do not offer student loans. I wish my girlfriend would have known that before she attended school here. Now she is stuck in a college she does not even want to go to. And if she drops out she has to pay back all the Pell Grant she would rather the money go back to the government I'm not even at end of semester but she can't even do that. Furthermore when she called down to the Morristown location the lady in financial aid Teresa Hensley that she spoke to was extremely rude. Last time I checked the school is supposed to be at least a little bit Professional. Here's my logic if you don't like your job then don't work there. It's a simple thing that everybody seems to get wrong. I just hope to god no one else makes the same mistake she did. I would advise people that do have options go to Pellissippi State in West Knoxville.

After reading opinions about bartending schools online, I was worried about the investment and…read morecalled Knoxville PBS to get a tour and some more information. Rick, the director of the school, made time to meet me that same day. I talked to him about my worries, and he told me that the while not exactly necessary, bar school would teach me all of the basics (using clever word clues to make it easy) and THEN some. The "THEN some" is where the real value of this bartending school lies. Rick and Denny, career bartending pros (and incredibly nice people), will not only teach you the recipes, tools, and tricks of the trade but also the surprisingly cool history of each drink and alcohol. They'll share invaluable customer service tips that they've learned over the years and tell you stories about various situations they've found themselves in behind the bar. They'll make sure you learn and practice only good habits behind the bar so you aren't embarrassed on the job when you absentmindedly knock drinks into your ice bin or get carpal tunnel from bad pouring techniques. And finally, they'll help you find jobs. Knoxville PBS has a good reputation with the local tourism and event industry and hires out bartenders to year-round events. I graduated this past Monday and Rick set me up with a job that very day bartending at a charity dinner event this weekend. I had a great time going through the course, and they worked with me to make sure I got all my classes in around my schedule. The tuition is well worth the experience! So while attending this bar school isn't necessary to get a job bartending in Knoxville, it IS necessary if you want to be a great bartender right off the bat. If you're on the fence about it, sign up and you won't regret it.

Yeah, I know....how enthralling can a place of education be on such a usually ponderous time? This university is a Baptist school, and so much warmer than I recall my four years at the Baptist College at Charleston (now Charleston Southern University) in the late 1960s. The level of staff and the outreach of students and professors at Carson-Newman during, before and after the two graduations (having to be split into two due to heavy rain being predicted, and thus moved inside instead of in their football stadium) impressed me and warmed me. How many universities have a university hymn sung at graduation and have Psalm 100 read during graduation. It just warmed my heart on this recent Friday (their graduations are always on Fridays).

I stayed…read morehere for a week of summer camp and upon entering my designated dorm (that looks like a prison facility), both beds, dressers and tables had a layer of dust on them. Room was musty, and the floor was grimy. I woke up feeling gross after 1 night. As for the resident hall bathroom: I have literally stayed in 3rd world country mission houses with cleaner showers. There is mildew and mold caked on every shower head and wall. Absolutely disgusting. Would not recommend without disposable shower shoes. Cafeteria food is ok, but I opted for fast food at most meals over the mystery meatloaf. Facilities outside of the sports and activities centers look a little worse for wear. Probably haven't been updated in 20 years or so. Not to mention there wasn't working AC on in the main building where sessions were being held. All this to say, I'm not sure I'd like to stay here again, and I honestly couldn't imagine living in these conditions as a student on campus.
