Maria at Hallman Memorial assured me the work would be done promptly and that I would be notified once it was complete. Instead, I received repeated excuses and delays, and I was never informed when it was finished. On November 20, 2024, I traveled to Terrell to view the stone myself. The engraving had been done, but with the wrong year. I immediately texted Maria, who apologized and promised not only to correct the mistake right away but also to issue a refund. She assured me I would receive a copy of the refund check before it was mailed. Months passed with more excuses--weather delays, illness, and other reasons. In July 2025, I again traveled to Terrell. The correction had finally been made, but once again, no one notified me. I called Maria and requested the refund in person. She told me she wasn't in the office but promised she would mail the check. As of August 22, 2025, more than a year later, I have still not received the refund I was promised. This entire experience has been deeply frustrating during what was already a difficult time for my family. While the correction was eventually made, the repeated lack of communication, accountability, and failure to honor the promised refund speaks volumes about the company's professionalism.

We decided on a headstone and ordered it. Six weeks later we get a call from the owner of Hallman (Henry) asking if we knew the plot number where my grandfather was buried. He called back several hours later and tells me that the section where my grandfather was buried is a 'flat marker only' section of the cemetery and that they couldn't place the headstone that we purchased (an upright) there. Bottom line, they failed to communicate (as promised) with the cemetery and built a headstone that we couldn't place. His suggestion was removing the base and laying it flat in the ground, but it does look awkward. They refused to make it right and offered us a $100 refund for the base that was unusable (less than a 5% discount). They tried to say the mistake was mine. We ended up accepting the headstone and moving on. No compassion or sympathy was expressed for their mistake.

We also used them for my father in 2010 and had an equally positive experience. I don't know what happened between then and when the other individual had a bad experience. I hope they resolved everything for them and they also were dealing with things through COVID but that doesn't excuse what that person experienced. I do know the people there prior to COVID were absolutely the best and worked with us to make a very sad event easier.
