We came across this place by chance and decided to get some breakfast items to take home. We got the breakfast sandwich with bacon, the savory biscuit, and one of the old fashioned donuts (I can't remember the name but it was tea flavored and had orange bits). The breakfast sandwich was solid -- not groundbreaking but very tasty and had a really good pesto sauce. The savory biscuit was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside -- also very good (we had it with scrambled eggs at home and it was a perfect combo!) The star of the show, though, was the donut. HOLY MOLY it was so good. I love old fashioned donuts and this was one of the best I've had. The donut itself was a great crumbly texture, and the glaze was not too sweet and nicely coated. The dough was deliciously flavored with the tea and other spices and went perfectly with the glaze. I visited Half & Half Doughnut on Sunday morning after walking by right before they closed earlier in the week and seeing that they have a churro doughnut and knowing I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE. I picked up 2 churro doughnuts, a georgette (cinnamon sugar twist), and a special maple pecan fritter. Needless to say, I'm glad I went back as they were delicious. The churro doughnuts have a slight outer crunch, delightful cinnamon flavor, and sweet and soft inner dough texture/flavor. The georgette (cinnamon sugar twist) was good; however, I'll be abstaining from ordering one of these in the future in favor of the churro option. The maple pecan fritter was a bit more expensive; however, it was also delectable and I'd highly suggest it. read more

It was just okay for me - I did go first thing in the morning to get donuts for the team (note, this is NOT the kind of place to grab a dozen, I threw off the staff by asking for that). Because of the early morning visit they had about half the selection, not a single bar in sight. The bombas were okay but overly sweet for my linking and the old fashioned dry. I love how they use real chocolate sprinkles (not just brown colored sprinkles) and at the bottom of the donut hole they put a little chocolate button which is a great surprise and texture. It's the small details here that make it stand out. I also love the croissant donuts. Their donuts are not too sweet in a great way. Woke up early on a Sunday morning for this and did not regret it at all! If there's one thing that can get me out of bed early, it's the promise of delicious donuts, which Half & Half certainly delivered on. Here, we got a variety of donuts but my favorite was the Banana Foster. The banana flavoring was just right and did not overpower the donut. We also got the Buttermilk Biscuit with butter and jam, which was also really good. The biscuit was super soft and complemented the butter and jam perfectly. I only wish it had more jam in it though as the bread to jam ratio was a little bit off. Nonetheless, it still tasted great! The shop itself is small with standing room only. If the weather permits, I'd recommend enjoying them outside at the tables they provide. read more

I made the trip up to Capital Hill just to try Half and Half and have to say I was, unfortunately, underwhelmed. The vanilla old fashioned donut was tasty but was disappointed they don't really have seating and a hang out vibe to enjoy your donut. For some reason I thought it was a high end donut shop with some interesting treats but I didn't find the crullers I was hoping for and the other donuts weren't doing it for me either. I just figured they would have some more traditional donuts along with some of their specialty selection too. It was way out of the way for me and not really worth the trip so I think this is a one and done experience. I had high hopes. I don't regret making the trip since I had a the nice walk down Pike street past Starbuck's roaster then off to Westlake Center followed by an enjoyable monorail ride to Seattle Center. read more

The closest I've found to Sidecar in LA, my all time favorite, the donuts are fresh, flavorful and unique. You can't go wrong with the old fashioneds, fritters, bombas or bismarcks. Incredibly good! My boyfriend and I live right down the block for Half and Half and every morning we face the temptation to go stock up on more doughnuts. The staff is so awesome, excellent service. I brought my dog in with us once and asked if we could get a cup of whipped cream (which they don't carry) and one of the women there insisted on handmaking some whipped cream JUST for our dog plus a little dog treat even when I told her not to worry about it. So sweet! The Savory Biscuit is probably my favorite thing there, salty and cheesy and crispy on the outside; ask for it warmed up! The Mochi Bites are a close second, definitely my favorite that I've had in Seattle so far. Also love the classic Boston Creme, the Banana Foster, and the Pineapple Fritter! I personally really like the Mexican chocolate original and the pineapple fritter most but the chocolate hazelnut donut was also pretty good. Impressive variety to satisfy your sweet tooth! I love that they offer such a large variety here in terms of flavors, types, size, and amount of sugar. The highlight of my first visit here was the mini chocolate hazelnut (nocciolata) filled bomba ($2.85). Soooo delicious! The filling is lightly sweet and like a chocolate mousse rather than an intoxicatingly sweet Nutella spread. Also, they really give you a lot of filling! I was very impressed by the bomba; I really loved it and I usually don't like filled doughnuts. The mini old-fashioned doughnuts are the perfect texture with a crunchy exterior and soft interior. The mini vanilla old-fashioned ($1) would pair well with a coffee or hot drink. I thought was too plain but I'm glad they have this less sweet option. On the other hand, the glaze on the mini raspberry old-fashioned was cloyingly sweet. I tasted the Almond Joy old-fashioned and it was very delicious and very sweet. They offer the Almond Joy in a mini version as well, which for the Goldilocks inside of me, would be the perfect amount of sugar. On post-Thanksgiving Sunday at closing hour they still had a decent selection. I like their cute branded paper bag. They have small tables outside. I stopped in at Half & Half Doughnuts for breakfast while waiting for my wife who had an appt. nearby. It was my first time there. It's a small storefront serving coffee, some breakfast sandwiches and their signature doughnuts. There is a bar with a coupe of barstools along the front window. It's a to-go place. I ordered a 12oz. double-shot latte, a breakfast sandwich and a doughnut. All were well prepared. The sandwich was egg, bacon & cheese on a brioche roll, which was the star of that act. The doughnut I chose was a raised-filled variety(a Bismarck). This one was unique: a Bananas Foster cream filled the interior. For the uninitiated Bananas Foster is a flambé dessert of fresh bananas sautéed in butter and brown sugar with rum and banana liqueur served over vanilla ice cream. Try to get all that into a doughnut! To my surprise most of these flavors came thru in the filling. It was a very good doughnut! The latte was also good. So, while I enjoyed the food very much, I ordered with abandon, paying no attention to pricing. This was good, but not cheap fun. The total cost including tax & tip was $27.00! Let me qualify this by saying that the overall quality of the baked items was well above average and, I did order a double shot. Nonetheless, at an average of $9 per item, it seemed a bit high even for Capitol/First Hill Seattle. Would I go back? In a heartbeat for the doughnuts, and the brioche roll, were it available for purchase. read more

We stopped in expecting donuts and were treated to a wonderful breakfast (and donuts). An egg dish was available but we chose the half and half breakfast on a homemade roll made from unsweetened donut dough (no hole). The lovely bread roll was filled with bacon, an egg, cheese and a tomato pesto. We had a cream filled Bismarck and a blue iced old fashioned donut covered with candy sea-related sprinkles. The blue color was an extract of seaweed that gave it a wonderful aqua color, no particular additional flavor, and additional nutrients. I was able to sample a mochi bite, a glazed rice cake donut that was absolutely fabulous. Next time when we're in Seattle, we'll be back. read more
