Lynn, tested my hair before feeling comfortable doing it, being honest if it was not recommended, even the test strand was with care & time. With two options, a traditional perm & healthier option. Since I have long hair and wanted spiral coily hair, this took five hours, BUT, Lynn cared for every individual strand! She genuinely took her time grabbing and perfecting every strand. It looked so natural and so bouncy! It felt like such a personal experience, I felt cared for and I do not believe I would've gotten the same treatment elsewhere given my long previously dyed hair. I did research for a few years before landing on Lynn, I'm so happy I did! She even let me go with fruit for the road. Shes so kind and accommodating. She's so precious!!!!

Sounds funny, but eh, at least I don't have the mushroom top head look. My thick hair and the cut I want is not an easy hair cut to do. The description sounds funny, but with gel it's a clean military look or akin to school kids going to grade school. Not my thing but, the maturity aura can be fixed with longer hair on top. Believe the best way to say is it that I have a heart shaped face. That means the top of my hair should look like an egg to my preference. The haircut I want isn't for the faint. Mess up and you cannot fix it. It's why most fades on my hair type sticks out and is not flat on the sides like a flat top. Once Mindy understood I was willing to take the risk, I was rewarded in something that many hairdressers cannot cut and or is willing to do. Which is to fade free hand, then rat tail comb fade the edges on top with a clipper and texture with scissors. Mind you I watched a long time before giving her the go ahead to take the risk. Sounds a lot of work right? Hair dressers will complain doing this type of cut. It's a lot of work, will take time. Mindy does this for me. And for that I tip well. To be fair, I get my hair cut once a month. But it's usually the best way to learn as the hair has grown out and everything needs to be redone again. Note. Tip what you can, I usually tip hourly wage max to half. Mindy gets more, that's how much I like the cut. 15 to 25 percent minimum wage is a good tip. That being said Mindy takes time, is patient, and remembers you. Everything you would want in a hairdresser. I really should come every two weeks but I got things to do. Mindy does textbook style hair cutting. Which doesn't work with my hair cause you don't really expect an Asian with an Afro like hair type, thick, and straight. Takes time to learn cultured hair types. My hair is a rarity. Mindy learned quickly how to cut and tame it. Qualities of a true hair dresser. Note. I got my hair cut by Lynn too. She's good, but she's busy and I believe she understands my haircut and hair is annoying to do. The guy and new girl are good too. Just a preference and patience to be had.

I was seated with Angie, showed her an inspo picture and she gave me exactly what I wanted, a trim and quick style. After seeing the final results, due to my hair type she recommended trying a new style/cut and I was in the mood to try something new so she went out of her way to re-cut and style my hair. She showed me two styling options and was very patient even though she basically had to redo my hair. She said they also do pre-event styling so if you have an event where you want your hair to look a little nicer, you can schedule with them starting at $45+. But I left feeling confident and ready to go out even just with the cut I received In total we paid $65 for two haircuts (no washing, just trim and styling) which is a steal in my opinion! They do men's and children's haircuts as well, we saw a variety of patrons on a Saturday. Overall, I highly recommend Modern Beauty for their outstanding service and prices!

First time he cut long layers on my thick one length hair. He kind of missed the top, I had someone else correct it. The 2nd time I went in just for a trim and root color. He couldn't follow the long layer patrern, It's so choppy and the layers do not flow. Then he also thinned my hair out. I don't ask to have it thinned out. He then charged me $95 for roots color, bad choppy trim and a blow out. I paid $100 in San Mateo to fix his choppy hair cut. I can't go back again unless it's just to color roots and blow out.

She asked us to hold our hands on our eyelid and forehead area above the eye brow, which was completely normal but she had trouble with pulling the hairs, because she must've gone back at least 3 times back to the same spot, after she had left the area. She pulled so hard that we both had open bleeding cuts when we left. She was really young and inexperienced. I wanted to give this place a shot after my normal place closed down, but 2 times in a row is a miss for me. Usually when getting my eyebrows threaded it's usually a quick in and out service, but this was the worst experience I've ever had.

Then I had asked for deep conditioning due to my hair being dry recently caused by a medication shampoo. She had mentioned paying $25 extra for the treatment and I agreed. Once the color processed we shampoo'd and did the conditioning treatment. Then we were ready for cut and blow dry. She put heat protectant and many different oils, Too many oils I thought. As she is blow drying my hair it was so greasy it wouldn't even move then she tried fixing it with dry shampoo and when I told her it felt greasy she continued to say dry shampoo will fix it when she finished blow drying. And when I told her it was too greasy for the second time she said "I know, I thought your hair was more course but realized when blow drying it that it's actually curly but fine, that was my mistake" but proceeded to tell me "dry shampoo will fix it" I had to ask her to wash it out because it was beyond greasy- nothing was going to fix it and I'm not paying to get my hair done to spend 3 hours on a salon to walk out with hair I would have to wash as soon as I got home bc of how gross it felt. So then she washes it out along with the leave in deep conditioner treatment that I paid an extra $25 and she doesn't reapply it then blow drys my hair then straightens it. Worst salon experience I have ever had. I just wanted to pay and get out of the chair as soon as possible.

She accommodated my schedule and when I arrived to my appointment we discussed my options of cluster lashes or eye lash extensions. Since I was not interested in a 1.5 hour time commitment for the application process of extensions and desired a full glamorous look we decided to go the cluster lash route. Jamie took her time in the application and asked for feedback on fullness and length of the lashes. They turned out spectacular and I decided to get my brows done by a Benefit trained expert which she is and she waxed and then filled in.
