I came across Moores recently after a hectic day in Horsforth, and decided that (judging a book by its cover as I usually do) it would be the perfect place to get a sugar hit on the way home. I wasn't wrong - inside Moores is as quaint and, for want of a better word, sweet, as it appears from the outside. People should be warned that this is not your Greggs-style bakery, but an independent establishment where really care is taken in creating and baking the pastries. The delicacies are so indulgent and perfectly sugared that you'll probably find yourself going back to Moores for more. Luckily, I followed my fruit pastry up with some boiled sweets, meaning that, for the time being at least, I'm sweet enough.

On other hand, sandwiches are calculated based on what you add, meaning that a cheese sandwich with salad (no onion) on a ciabatta roll ended up being £3.20! And it wasn't that big or tasty (it in fact tasted of cheap margarine instead of cheese!). I can go to Pooky and Grumps and get a sandwich that knocks my socks off for that price! You can't even justify that price with location or décor. it's a bit of a grotty 70s hole. So for the curd tart, you get three star, Hardaker. although i shall not be relying on you for actual sustenance.

By this I mean it could only exist in 2009 in an age-old suburb of Leeds which still classifies itself as a village and is so fiercely proud of this fact that it refuses to let any kind of chain store even think about setting up shop here. Hence Bramhope has the quaint but still important Village Bakery - a business that I wouldn't like to estimate the age of, it is the sort of place you just don't see any more. Offering everything you'd expect from an old timey bakery, bread, pastries, cakes, the place does charge what I call 'Bramhope' prices (basically slightly overpriced) but that's to be expected. If only there was a candlestick maker next-door this village would be complete. Alas, he moved away a long time ago.
