Super cute cafe with traditional kiwi breakie. You order at the counter and staff brings the food to you. The food is fresh and delicious, staff are kind. Loved the designs on top of the coffee. You can eat inside or out, and when you're outside it's next to a playground for children to enjoy, while parents can relax at the cafe and enjoy too. Loved seeing all the well-behaved dogs sitting outside with their owners too. Only thing I thought that was odd, as an American, is the staff picks up your dirty dishes. We were dining with Kiwis who told us to leave the dirty dishes. In America, if we order at the counter we are expected to return our dirty dishes ourselves, similar to Hahei Beach Cafe offering the drinking water bar for patrons to fill up glasses of water or pitchers of water. Liked this place so much we had breakfast two days in a row. There was a lot of seating available, with nice open air tables, perfect for a sunny morning. I had the Smashed Avo both days. It is delicious! Light, refreshing, piled with plenty of avocado! I also enjoyed the iced mocha. There is a lunch menu that also sounds great, but we never made it back to try lunch. If you're staying in Hahei or just passing through, don't hesitate to stop at this cafe! read more

I really wanted to like this place and I am reluctantly writing a review before getting my food because the service is SOOOOOOOOOO slow. If you eat here maybe consider getting the premade food in the case because ordering off the menu is ridiculous. We ordered eggs on toast and a smashed avo with two poached eggs - we've been waiting on those items for over 30 minutes and it's just so darn disappointing. The place is extremely busy because it's the only thing open in town and it's been pouring rain for the last 3 days. All things considered those items should not take this long. The environment is sooooooooo noisy too. We ended up getting our food just before I finished this review. As for the food, it was good but ok at the same time. The smashed avo is very Mediterranean with a cucumber, tomato, and red onion salsa. The eggs on toast is simply that raw bread with the style of eggs you want, that was super underwhelming. read more

Delicious breakfast and lunch spot. Was hard to choose From all the delicious sounding offerings. My better half two thick pancakes with flat streaky bacon (it's almost like what we call in the US Canadian bacon or smoked ham), sautéed bananas & whipped cream, I had a streaky bacon and egg panino with a tablespoon of an apple mostarda. Both were delicious. No WiFi there but two massive espresso machines (see pics) and we would have tried coffee but we were already caffeinated from room. They have a really cool map of the earth on one wall where people go up and put pins of all the places that they've been. Great place for breakfast or lunch. Highly recommend it! read more

After trekking down to Cathedral Cove, we needed something to eat. We'd spotted a few cafes and a brewery (The Pour House Bar) but the latter was way too pricey for lunch. We ended up at Hahei Beach Cafe just before they closed. We dropped in on a late Thursday afternoon (around 3:30pm). They informed us that the kitchen was closed but we could grab takeout. The menus are up behind the counter. There's a kid's menu, breakfast/brunch options and drinks (coffee, tea and iced drinks). There's also a display case at the front that had sandwiches, paninis, pies, tarts and pastries. - Flat white ($5.00 NZD large) - more creamier than what B's had elsewhere in NZ. - Beef sandwich ($7.50 NZD) - it looked like the healthiest option. Price was right and it was tasty with a mix of lettuce, cabbage, carrot, mayo and beef deli slices. - Bacon & egg panini ($12.00 NZD) - bacon, egg, mozzarella. Decent but wish they'd offered to toast/warm up the panini for us. - Feta sundried tomato scone ($4.50 NZD) - spotted these on the counter. There was bacon and peas inside. Texture was soft and fluffy inside. Pretty good! Decent enough for a quick stop. Didn't get the full experience of dining in. 3.5 stars. read more

Excellent coffee and good dark chocolate and raspberry muffin. Located on village area with car parks front and rear - but they are small and can be very congested when holiday season. Even in September the township was busy. Good indoor and outdoor seating in the sun. Great range of delicious looking counter food - the red velvet cake looked especially tempting. Watched some plated brunch meals go by - all generous portions and had some food envy as my stomach grumbled. Nice friendly staff. read more

In a town with a population of around 300, this is the only eatery serving up breakfast. Luckily, and generously, they do a great job of breakfast despite not having any competition. The staff is friendly and the owner equally so, along with his dog whom wanders freely to greet all the customers. Cooked breakfasts range from $15-22NZ, but both times I stuck with the beautiful breakfast pastries, which are hearty and only range from $5-8NZ. The Breakfast Pie, Scones, and mince meat pie all make for filling and affordable breakfasts...though I had 2 each day because I wanted to try everything, and I've got a big appetite! read more

I went here for lunch for two days straight while I was in town, based on a recommendation from a resident in the area. What a great place! The food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. The first time I went, I had a smoked chicken and brie panini. It was delicious! Nicely toasted, with the brie all melty and this amazing fig/pear chutney on the side that was just the right match for the flavors of the slightly smokey chicken and brie. Just perfect! I also had this apricot/chocolate bar cookie-like thing (can't remember the name) that came with a side of whipped cream. It was amazing! I returned the next day and had a feta tart with kalamata olives, along with a potato, rocket, and chorizo salad. Again, really satisfying! Will definitely be coming back! read more

Place is a hassle. Coffee was good, but my vacation and conversation with my wife was interrupted by an employee who demanded that my wife hide a small smoothie she had purchased at a shop on the way here. They served coffee in this clean-inside and outdoorsy cafe located near Hahei beach and minutes away from Cathedral Cove itself. Really nice little cafe in "downtown" Hahei perfect for lunch to sit down or takeaway. They have a deck area with tables in the shade where you can enjoy a selection of savory tarts, quiches, paninis and salads. I had the moroccan chicken quiche which had a really nice crust on it. This little coffee/gift shop is tucked away from the beach, nestled in the forest. The menu is diverse and the baked goods (the ones I nibbled on) were delicious.
