The seed for Habitat for Humanity was planted at a community farm outside of Americus, by farmer and biblical scholar Clarence Jordan. Jordan along with Habitat founders Millard and Linda Fuller developed the concept of partnership housing. Those in need of shelter would work side by side with volunteers to build affordable homes at no profit. House payments would be combined with no interest loans provided by supporters which would then be used to build more homes. In 1973, the Fullers took their house building concept to Zaire where they worked for three years. They then returned to the United States and founded Habitat for Humanity International in 1976. President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn became involved and raised awareness. Habitat is now in all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. They have helped 29 million people be able to afford safe shelter. In 1991 Habitat for Humanity launched the concept of the ReStore in Winnipeg, Canada. In 1992 the first Habitat for Humanity restore opened in the U.S. in Austin Texas. The ReStores accept donations from the community and home improvement stores and then resells the items to the public at a discounted price. The profit from the ReStore supports the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. This store in Palm Bay is part of the Space Coast Habitat for Humanity. They have helped 575 families in 37 years and they are designated as a Veteran Build affiliate serving the veterans in the community. They support programs for home ownership and home preservation through zero-interest mortgages, volunteer labor, and community support. I love supporting Habitat for Humanity and stop in the thrift stores whenever I can. This store was large and clean with a mixture of new and gently used items. They had furniture, home goods, home improvement items, and more. My favorite find was a vintage Capodimonte porcelain mirror vanity with perfume bottle. This is an updated review as the supervisor is no longer with the organization. I do want to mention that there is one outstanding employee that works there that has been there for a long term her name is "Tri" It is short for something that is hard to pronounce. She is very friendly and goes above and beyond to help customers. Since it is 45 minutes away from home, I will call on the phone and sometimes she will go check to see if they have a particular item which is not required it's more of a self-service store unless you need help loading your car. I have been shopping there over the last six years, recent management has really cleaned up the place nicely, things are more organized. My only dissatisfaction at this point is the prices have skyrocketed which there is no excuse for right now the rest of the world is experiencing higher retail prices because of higher fuel prices and lack of people willing to work. One day I was on my way in to go shopping, A customer was leaving and commented to me on how high the prices were. I told her everything I said above, and that if something has been sitting a long time they may work with you I take pictures to timestamp it. They had a nice selection of furniture. Lots of sofas, recliners, coffee tables, lamps, and assorted items. Some looked to be barely used and some showed obvious signs of wear. Prices are low. Like any thrift store, you can never tell what they'll have in store. This store carries larger items like doors, flooring, lighting, furniture and even artwork. I've been to this location a few times and each time they have different stuff. PRO TIP: If you see something that you like, you should buy it right away. This is a nice place to go if you are into thrift stores and antiques. It was so crowded you would think you were at the Antiques Road Show. Everyone was very friendly. Mostly furniture and quite a few nice peices of crystal and items that can go into a beautiful curio cabinet. That's really what l am looking for. I found one but after 10 minutes of trying to find out how to open it, l just let it go. But l did find 2 beautiful end tables that had just touch that l was looking for. The best part of the deal was that were able to fit into my car. I had help to get them into the car within 5 minutes of my purchase. They had quite a few nice items and the prices were very reasonable. Its a great place to purchase or just cruise on a nice Saturday afternoon. read more

Rude salesperson and manager refused to exchange a defective item for another of the same kind, even with more than a dozen to choose from. Forget about scheduling a pick up. After several no shows, I brought the item in myself which was valued at $2000. The guys receiving the donation were just as rude. Will not be donating any more items to this location. read more

Short summary: well-lit, no smell, clean, very organized, good prices and a good cause. 95% of store is wheelchair accessible. This is not your average thrift shop: no clothes, no books, no children's anything (including furniture). Most furniture looks like it was in a 3 star hotel decorated with mid-90s emphasis on small, pastel, repeated patterns on upholstery. Some from a hospital. Building supplies: tile, counters, sinks, doors, a huge bin of ceramic TP holders & soap holders, interior tile, hurricane shutters, etc. Long version: Beautiful facility - the front has huge windows allowing incredible sunlight in the afternoon, which is why there is no pic of the sign or front of building - glare. This would be a great place to furnish a dorm or your home, if you like the 'hotel' look. Lots of supplies for those doing renovations. Some of the items were in matching multiples: 20-30 of the same exact style/color chairs that furnished a hotel lobby or conference area. Several couch/loveseat sets (most were fine, there were a couple of gross ones). They had: regular & hospital beds, armoires, dressers, china cabinets, dining room sets (some quite nice), desks ranging from very basic to multiple piece executive level, windows, doors (interior & closet panel), and a good selection of lamps - both table and ceiling fixtures. Most of these were bland, but I did see one of the trendy industrial chic/urban renewal ceiling pendant lights. It was fairly priced at $60. Also on display was an incongruous collection of vintage style model cars. It was not very busy when I was there, and there were two staff members on the sales floor and another loading/unloading delivery trucks. There is a loft area full of office where one can receive Habitat assistance for various needs. Credit cards are accepted. Sales are final. Best wheelchair accessibility in town at any resale shop. If you use a cane or crutches, there are plenty of places to stop & rest. Most parts of the store are rather safe for kids (couches, beds,) with the exception of the building materials and the lamp/framed art area. Great place to shop for household furniture and you even buy supplies like drywall, doors, cabinets, marble...etc... I only give 4 stars because they close too early for me. 6pm on weekdays (I don't get off work until 5:30) Would be nice if they closed at 7pm. Bought a dresser and nightstand here yesterday. I brought the set home and put it in my daughter's bedroom. Her entire room now reeks of cigarette smoke because of this furniture. I completely understand that everything is sold as is, but I couldn't smell it in the store. My daughter has asthma, so cigarette smoke is a HUGE problem. I called the store, and the woman I spoke to on the phone said I could bring it back for store credit. Another woman called me back about 5 minutes later and told me not to bother bringing it back because they don't accept returns. I am beyond irritated. Their store associates need to know their return policies before they give someone misinformation... or if they made a mistake, at least honor the return that they said they would do. read more
