One thing I've acquired to love over the years is grocery shopping (Yes, I'm one of those odd balls). Therefore, I'm been itching to go to the new H Mart in Fresh Meadows that opened last month. It's very spacious, highly organized and super clean, which makes my shopping experience a little bit more enjoyable. Here's what I love about this place: 1) They have already cooked packaged Korean food (very quick and easy to heat up and eat if you're a Busy Bee). 2) Conveniently sliced meat and marinated meat for Shabu-shabu and BBQs if you're lazy like me. 3) They have a huge variety ranging from Fresh Seafood, Fresh Meat, Bakery Goods, Frozen Selections, Everyday Equipments, Cooked Foods, and more. I'll been coming here more often! I also like this place more compared to the one on Northern because it's so much easier to find parking around here. read more

This supermarket is very racist! Because I am Chinese, not Korean, I have a bad service attitude, especially the manager of the store. I bought an electric kettle and found that the button was not easy to press and use, so I took it in to change it, but the manager opened the kettle and found that there was water stain and refused to allow the return or exchange, saying that it would affect the enjoyment of the second time and could not be returned or exchanged. He also pointed to the Korean on the side. All the original packaging, including the receipt, had been used and could not be changed. The manager had a very bad attitude, saying that it had been used and could not be changed. If it had not been used and dismantled, he would ask if it had not been opened for trial use. They just write that there are legitimate reasons to return and exchange, which is discrimination that I am Chinese, if I am Korean, I may unconditionally return and exchange it，This supermarket is terrible. Right now is 10:47 and this security guard is telling all Asian customers , no it is closed . And u can't pull any shopping cart. Then suddenly a Spanish guy came and he said , you can go in . Meanwhile the store door said closed at 11:00... today is 6/30. I hope H mart is taking this seriously. The staff are attentive and I really appreciate when they help me bring back the shopping cart, especially when I'm parked towards the back of the parking lot. When I don't want to deal with huge crowds or be stuck in traffic for hours on end, I come here. The prices aren't nearly as cheap as the grocery stores you'll find off Kissena but the fact that there's a parking lot keeps me coming back. This H Mart is my favorite of the many H Marts around the Flushing area since it's much bigger and has never disappointed me in terms of things I need. There's a Korean eatery inside where I'll go for a cheapish bite with M. The food is always tasty and comes with delicious banchan. There's also a Paris Baguette located inside filled with a bunch of yummy pastries. Anytime I've needed any sort of Korean or even Japanese grocery item, I can find it here plus more. The amount of ban chan this place has blows my mind. SO many varieties! I like that they have every single ingredient I'll ever want for hot pot like veggies, noodles, rice cakes, fish balls, seafood, and thinly sliced beef. Clean store. Small, doesn't always have everything I need. Prices are a lot more expensive compared to other asian markets. For example, the exact same Boba Ice-Cream here is $2 more a box than a Chinese supermarket I also go to. No one speaks English so it's hard to ask for help. Female cashiers are extremely rude. I like going to this H Mart even though sometimes it is out of my way because it is clean and neat. The food is definitely not the cheapest but it is pretty solid. I usually go in to pick up some sashimi freshly sliced in the morning and some package Uni. Then I'll browse around and pick up some condiments if needed but I usually head to the prepared food section and pick up a package of fresh kimchi dumplings and already prepped bibimbap meal. I just need to add rice and fried egg on top. I have to say, there's a sales lady who gives out samples in the prepared food section and she really either needs to be making commission or more money. She really pushes the product and is extremely polite and friendly. I've spoken to her many times about the kimchi dumplings I'm always looking for(which they haven't had for a while) and she always sells me on something else. It was only today I found out her name is Diana and she was Taiwanese and spoke Mandarin. It was just ironic because I assumed she was Korean. Point is, Chinese or Korean, unimportant because she's a great sales person! It's a pretty good deal considering it feeds two people for under $10. You can also go to the takeout/cafeteria section and buy a meal already cooked but it costs more. The price is not outrageous considering how much they charge at a regular Korean restaurant and it's pick it up yourself so no need for tip. read more

Walked in just to have lunch at the cafeteria built within the supermarket. Prices are a bit expensive but don't judge a book by its cover. We order the kimchi beef stew, which is a spicy broth with lots of garlic, shredded beef, glass noodles and let me tell you that you will sweat hot and heavy while consuming this spicy broth. It came with a side of white rice and pickled spicy cucumber. There was another sise dish which had other pickled vegetables but i was not able to eat it. To be honest this stewed could have been a meal for 2 people given the amount of food. My wife ordered stir fry octopus in a garlic, chili sauce with sweet onions. Excellent dish, savory, spicy it cane with a side of rice and a small soup. Lunch was $22, plenty of food. I just think next time we will share a meal since they give you a good size portion. Note, just about every dish on the menu is spicy, so if spicy is not to your taste, this is not the place for you. What happened??? The yookgaejang used to be so good here... Went today and the first spoonful we spit out. The soup tasted sour... Like something went bad. Really bad. Maybe the shredded beef or the braken (gosari)? It was so off putting... We took it immediately back to the counter and the chef tasted it, looked confused, and said he'd remake it for us. 30 mins later, we were still standing there...waiting for the food. Right when we were about to ask for a refund, they said 3 mins...and we just asked for them to wrap it to go. Was too long to wait. We used to love the yookgaejang here... But everything about that soup we had today was wrong. Even the side dish kimchi... Was soooo fermented and sour...inedible. And I'm korean. I love all kimchi and never leave anything behind but I couldn't touch the stuff they put out today. So disappointing. Won't be eating here for a while. read more

I think this is a great edition to the area. Price-wise it is not as cheap as other Asian markets, but more in line with mainstream markets. Aisles are clean and produce is plentiful and fresh. The fish counter is great, lots of whole fish and fillet options as well as seafood. I was surprised that there was no butcher counter, but there were choices of prepackaged meat including Kobe. Don't forget to grab lunch or dinner while there. At the front of the store behind the Paris Baguette is a counter where you can get a real good meal. We got #16 (beef) & #17 (pork), each $10. Everything seems to be made to order, so it takes a while for food to come out. Dishes are served bento box style along side a bowl of soup with bean sprouts. The meat was marinated well and was tender and quite tasty...although the pork was more flavorful than the beef. Each was served with salad, rice and kimchi. It was a hearty and delicious meal and I would easily eat there again. If you have reservations about visiting H Mart, don't and just give it a try, I think you'll like it. read more

Downgrade. I was pissed today. I went to buy some Chilean sea bass and asked for the two small pieces. The fishmonger did not speak English and seemed bothered when I attempted to tell him to give me the smallest pieces to save money. The fish which was not advertised as wild cost $22.99. Further, I bought some prepared food that looked like fried fish and it seemed to be processed. Not good. My parents are immigrants and I speak another language and have no problem with multilingual socieites. But, I should not be treated as a nuisance just because I don't speak Korean. My American dollars do not speak a foreign language and you wallet does not have an accent. read more

This is one of my favorite grocery places, thanks to consistently fresh produce and seafood in particular. As home cooking got more popular these days, we enjoyed grilling branzino from here. I must say though that compared to the other Hmart that I go to, they didn't hand out plastic gloves nor limit people inside the premises during the heat of COVID 19. read more

I love to shop in hMart since 2 decades ago. Fresh food friendly service reasonable price. I could give 5 stars if their apple and banana was in better condition. I love to eat Fuji apple and have bought in a tray price but many times it is hit and miss. The quality of Apple was so bad. Oh they have one of the best price for the Häagen-Dazs ice cream. For whatever reason things don't taste as good as the standalone bakeries. Food Court - Lots of options! Great portions! Prices are on par with a regular Korean restaurant which was surprising. Simple meals were $8-12. I got a stew and my husband got korean fried rice. Portions were insane, taste - EH. The Bento box looked Awesome! Wish we got that instead. Next time! read more

Came here on the weekend before mid autumn festival . The store is full of yummy food for the holiday. Also, on Sunday mornings, a lot of tasting sample stands, they are not cheap with their sample. They have multiple locations throughout Queens but this one looked really nice. Their selection of Asian goods is pretty good but I think their choice in pre marinated meats is what's really good. Chicken or beef in their marinate is so good and the best part is that you can try it fully cooked as well right in the food court. The beef gaibi and chicken is great as the rest of the food. I really want to like this newer Hmart over the ones on Northern, but the staff is just so unprofessional. The HQ in New Jersey needs to visit them, maybe with a younger English speaking mystery shopper. Recently, I came back to exchange sesame oil that was twice the price of listed price. It wouldn't have been a problem if they just found the right product and exchanged it, but they started arguing and explaining how the customers here are a nightmare and items are never in the right place. The kicker is she went and brought back the supposed item on sale, and she was wrong too! Things are not labeled correctly and are all initialized. Then she makes me go back to find a replacement I want because she starts arguing. I mean, come on. Combine that with most staff here being unfriendly and never even saying hi unless you look like a native old Korean person, except on weekends - the younger part timers are friendly and helpful, my bet is sadly they get paid less and works harder. Half the time I check out, if I get one of the older ladies, they dont speak a single word back to you, the definition of rude. One time I tried a sample and one of the older ladies by the prepared meals section started talking trash about how young customers don't always buy what they try. What, excuse you? We come here to shop for the experience and will buy what we crave next time we come. BE WARNED: Worst meat department ever! They always hide bad meat behind the good ones so you would buy a pack without knowing there are bad ones hidden behind. This is the third time it happened. This is the worst ever happened because they hid this bad discolored meat in the back and also they were mostly bones. There are usually more meat proportion to the boned part. read more

Is it weird that my main objective when going to hmart is getting the cooked food? Honestly the food is usually consistent in taste compared to the food served at the hmart in great neck. My go to is usually the #16 beef lunch box: bulgogi, kimchi, radish kimchi, salad, rice, soup for $12 (used to be $10 so slight raise in price). Still a pretty good deal for what you get. Sometimes they forget to pack certain items if you get take out so always double check your bags. Also if you get take out of the lunch boxes you get a free pack of roasted seaweed. Free water towards the back on the left hand side. Order at the register, pay, get your ticket and when they call your number just pick up your meal. This place can get crowded, especially during "rush" hours but if you stay to eat you will get more food than if you get take out. read more

I'm ecstatic that the former Waldbaums is now Hmart. While it can be cramped and chaotic during peak shopping times, I'm still glad that there is a close by Asian grocery store with a great selection of food and decent prices. Hmart is really well organized, brightly lit and clean. Hopefully it will stay this way. One of my best finds is the fresh cut sashimi grade salmon. At $13.99/lb its nicely priced for good quality fish that is better than going to a sushi bar in the area. As many people have mentioned, samples abound around every corner on the weekends. I love all the prepared foods, banchan, marinated meats and food from the little food court/cafe area. It's not really a food court since its just one little kitchen and a seating area. The food is identical to the kitchen at Hmart on Parsons in Flushing. You can get a tasty and filling meal for under $10. There is also a Paris Baguette inside but it is like an express version since they have limited pastries and pared down offerings compared to the regular PB shops. The guys who work the bakery counter could use some extra training since they seem oblivious to patrons who are waiting to order and uneducated about their food menu. read more

Not a bad place to shop but customer service is lacking .. their cashiers can be pushy and rude. And stock people seem to have anger issues. One male worker that was directing the customers to the lines went up to us as we were paying and asked to check my 6 year old daughter's pockets . He thought she was stealing . My husband checked my daughter's coat pockets and there was nothing there of course . I know some workers are concerned about theft , but how ridiculous is it to accuse an innocent 6 year old of stealing?? This supermaket is awesome! It has so many Korean cooked food and desserts as well. They carry a variety of ethnic products - Korean being most dominant. It is very clean and organized as well. Produce is a little more expensive than a Chinese supermarket but worth it. Market is pretty crowded and parking lot was crowded too. People flock 2 good places. read more

First the good: The gentleman who guides the line is possibly the nicest person on the planet. He is always so calm and friendly. The line gets very long and he always manages it well. I went on my daily trip to Hmart last week and there was a very upset customer who continued to yell for over 20 mins. This resulted in some of the cashiers and the wonderful line director having to assist her. Thankfully one of the ladies that assist with bagging had to direct the growing line (great job.) I noticed that some of the people that stock the items are not very helpful. It seems they make it obvious that they are watching you (security is never too far behind) but they are not eager to help. Today I asked a lady where the rolling pins were. She acted as if she was trying to help, but was speaking to someone via her earbuds She kept watching me but did not make much of an effort. I found the rolling pins not far from where she was standing. This is not the first time Ive experienced an unhelpful associate. Another time I asked for assistance and the associate started walking away. This is unacceptable. read more
