But the minute I met Dejna, and stalked her Instagram for months, I knew I was in great hands... in miraculous hands. Dejna saved my hair. Literally. The treatments she uses are incredible. One of the girls down the road at Gov's Espresso had mentioned that she'd heard good things about them, and they're located right above Vintage Espresso, another of my favourite GC spots... so the choice to book in was easy. Lara looked after me and was really sweet and friendly without our conversation feeling like a chore. I got a treatment put through my hair, too, and that included a ten minute head massage - another relief! I had a tasty cup of herbal tea as she straightened my crazy curls for fun. The music playing through the speakers could have easily been piped up from Vintage, chilled-out alternative tunes from some of my favourite artists. As a spur of the moment thing, I inquired about an eyebrow wax, too. Unfortunately it was a busy Saturday, and the waxer didn't have any time for me, but the girls even went to the effort of calling the beauty salon around the corner to see if they could fit me in. I really appreciated the extra effort, even if the salon was too busy to fit me in, too. All up my visit cost only $69 compared to the same thing I had done in a Brisbane salon for $95. It's main function is as a unisex hair salon and in that serves it's purpose well, with very capable, professional hairdressers and certainly reasonable prices as well as offering organic facials, manicure / pedicure and waxing. You may want to book a couple of hours in advance during busy times though. But it is so much more. A new age shop with salt lamps, a wide array of crystals and most of the usual such accouterments. There are also qualified therapists offering massage, reflexology, reiki, shamanic healing and crystal bed sound healing. There are regular yoga classes and a small cafe as well. The staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming. A cathartic oasis amongst the trashy $2 shops, wannabe cafes and pubs and annoying tourist advise booths.
