Between working in one state and living in…read moreanother, a mortgage, and some other papers that make TurboTax seem like I'm missing something, I've found going to Ron to be worth the time and money. WTS is a small operation, and that makes it feel like the staff there really care about you and your particular situation. Every year, I walk in and Ron has my purple file folder in hand; he remembers me and details about my last return to be sure to ask me appropriate questions and make sure I get a good return. I come in, tell the receptionist I'm here (they have evening hours during tax season, which is just awesome), and hand over my pile o'papers to Ron... Usually less than a half hour later, I'm out of there with my return submitted electronically, and a folder with copies of my returns, nicely labelled for my files. The prices are reasonable, and they are good to returning customers and those with multiple returns to file. I cannot say enough good things about Woonsocket Tax Services and Ron in particular; anytime tax preparation comes up in conversation, I recommend them. A wonderful experience (even if you end up owing!) every time!

Being a small business and wanting to support another local small business is what brought me to…read moreChamberland in the first place. For the 3 years that I was with them, I was happy with the service and timely fashion that they responded to questions and were able to get my taxes done on time. The start of this year, I was informed that the company had been sold to another company in PA in late 2023. I wasn't thrilled but at least I thought that the local accountants that have worked with me would be staying on board but no, I was sadly mistaken. This company in PA (Prevail) completely gutted the staff that had been loyal to this firm and were outsourcing the jobs to their accountants in PA. This caused my personal and business taxes to be delayed, even though I had all my paperwork in on time. I had to hire a new accountant to finish my returns in a timely fashion since Chamberland notified me that my returns would need an extension while they looked over my file. This was to no fault of my own but now I have had to pay another accountant to finish my taxes and Chamberland ie Prevail refuse to refund me for the work they have not done. It's a shame that a local business not only lost all their staff but what was once a good local business is now not the same.

I recently received a letter from the IRS stating I owed them money from the tax year of 2014, due to having incomplete documentation that wasn't submitted as proof of their calculations. (thanks to H&R Block). I went back and forth with their "centralized" line to get an appointment with them to get this taken care of. What a disaster. I was transferred to the Milford office since the other two closest locations were closed for the season. I made three separate trips to the Milford office, leaving every document they had completed for me from the 2014 tax year and the IRS letters I was getting in the mail. They still couldn't figure out what the IRS was needing on my behalf. Each time the woman told me it "should be all set," about a month later, I would get another letter from the IRS saying I still owed them money. This happened for at LEAST 4-5 months of going back and forth to get the problem fixed! The next time I went back, and I sat down with a completely different person than the woman that was originally trying to help me. (I was told the woman that was helping me needed to take her 12 weeks of required "seasonal" time off) The new person that I got stuck with was now trying to figure out the mess that the other woman created, which ended up being more of a mess than it was to begin with. Keep in mind, I paid EXTRA for the "peace of mind" which would cover me on H&R Block's behalf, if anything was ever to be questioned with the IRS. Come to find out, the "peace of mind" NEVER happened because the two idiots that I was working with never filed a "peace of mind" claim. I became so aggravated with this company, I filed a formal complaint with the better business bureau and after their investigation into this, I was fully refunded for the cost of my tax preparation for the year of 2014. I would never recommend H&R Block to my worst enemy. They are a bunch of incompetent people, I hope they go out of business.
