Jackson Hewitt Tax Service

Jackson Hewitt Tax Service

(2 reviews)

I filed my taxes with Jackson Hewitt Tax Service 1419 Austin Avenue, Ste. B Brownwood, Texas 76801…read morebecause of a $50 Wal-Mart and $200. advance loan gimmick and after our favorite H&R Block Tax office was closed due to internet problems. Furthermore, I went to them because I expected they knew the tax laws. Luckily, I did get a $50 Wal-Mart card but the $200 was on the JH Preferred Card was denied. Big Mistake! Again, if H.R. Block would have been open we would have gone there instead of giving Jackson Hewitt a try. All professional tax services are equal right? Wrong! I have had my taxes filed by many people but these folks are by far the worst (in my opinion). On January 21, 2013 it took Ms. Foster nearly three hours to finish our tax return. One problem was the ACA paperwork and while this location's computer's were ready to comply with the new law the tax preparer was not and was trying to figure it all out with us there. It didn't help that I had two forms for the ACA since my cost for insurance had changed after 6 months and was sent two forms. This complicated things for Ms. Foster even more. The other problem was after totaling everything up she gives me an amount and I let her know that it's suppose to be $1,000 dollars more than that (I do know how to do my own taxes. Just feel safer having someone else prepare them). And for another lengthy wait she was trying to figure out how to get more money for us. Finally after going through our paperwork I noticed a number 2 in the exemptions instead of three since we had one dependent. Oh my goodness, it was a horrible experience. We never did get the $200 advance and our taxes were held up. So after several weeks we went by the Jackson Hewitt on Austin Avenue and asked some tax preparers there if they knew anything we could do to see what the problem was and find out what was taking our return so long. They had no clue and couldn't help. They told me to keep checking the I.R.S. website for changes, which we already knew to do. In March, we found out that the return was being audited for the two ACA forms and the we received a letter to the effect that our tax refund had been offset to pay on a child support debt. I didn't want to waste another trip stopping by the local Jackson Hewitt Tax Service Office since I had practically done my own taxes there anyways and the tax preparers seemed to do little more than charging ridiculous prices for their lack of services. So I drove almost 80 miles to Abilene to visit the nearest I.R.S. office. We were told to file an injured spouse form and contact a tax advocate. I had never heard of such a thing in my entire life. After filing the form I am told the I.R.S. will hold on to a refund for 5 months (by someone at I.R.S.), if it has been offset or had any other problems. So, in July after several months of getting to the problem of finding out where my tax return went out of the blue I get a call from the Jackson Hewitt Regional Manager here in Brownwood. She orders me to bring by all documents that I have received from the I.R.S. and I tell her that I will take them by as soon as I can. Next, I receive a letter July 19th and they're demanding the $298. charge plus interest for tax services if not payed by July 23, 2015. I just hit the ceiling. I wasn't complaining so much that it took almost three hours to get my tax return done, the $50 Wal-mart Card or the $200 tax advance gimmick, the false sense of security protection plan that costs $49 or that several of their tax preparers didn't know what they were doing but this, this, they are demanding their money and I haven't even received my tax return. The regional manager than informed me when I went to take all my I.R.S. paperwork that tax season is over October the 15th and she wants to have the accounts closed before then. Which she can do if you read the contract small print. So, she hits me up for a payment plan and tells me one of her clients has been paying monthly payments so by the time he gets his return his tax preparer charges will be paid off. I just had to write about my horrible experience with this company and hopefully I will never ever have to have my taxes done with them ever again! I have never ever had such lousy experience anywhere else I've been. P.S. Something I find I really like at H and R Block besides the knowledgeable tax prepares, hassle-free service, reasonable rates is they have this gadget that you sign once and it copies your name on you tax paperwork. It beats what Jackson Hewitt has that you have to sign in each and every space. I'm saying, even a few minutes saved from a three hour appointment is a big deal. I think it would be a great investment to get one. If there is one thing that I have learned from this experience is that why try the rest when you've found the best. H.R. Block is the best tax preparer in my opinion and I will wait as long as it takes for them to get their internet up and running.

What a joke!! went here first, some really smart people there ..... not! so, tried San Angelo, no…read morethank you, will be going back to H@R Block, where they know what and how to do taxes, they do not lie to you and do not charge an arm and leg!!!
