This tax center appears to operate on a fee structure where larger refunds increase the preparer's compensation, creating a built-in incentive to pursue maximum credits regardless of whether they fit the client's circumstances. My assigned preparer actively sought and applied credits that did not apply to my situation. The return was audited, and I was left owing the IRS a substantial balance. When I requested assistance amending the return by removing inapplicable credits, the preparer declined to help and stopped responding. I contacted the owner, Bona, seeking guidance or intervention and was not provided with any assistance. Tax preparers here appear to operate with minimal oversight, and this tax center does not step in when problems arise. This was not a good or professional experience. Proceed with caution. Jackson Hewitt Tax Service West Apopka is a waste of time. Firstly, they do not honor appointments…read moreso people who make appointments online will be surprised when they visit Jackson Hewitt. I had to wait twenty minutes before anyone could help me because their computers were freezing and shutting down. They said that they had to turn away some customers because of the computers. My tax advisor did not know how to file an LLC so I had to wait till the senior tax advisor showed her how. Jackson Hewitt did not make an effort to get me my maximum refund. They were just about to turn me away before I told them about the AOTC (American Opportunity Tax Credit) because I guess they assumed that I was not a student and never was a student. They are not prepared for the Healthcare Market Place exemption (Affordable Care Act) thus, I had to go home without filing my taxes (I wasn't the only one). While I was there people were calling in complaining about their "cash advance" because the gift card they received was not working. My 1098 form was like an alien object for them because they did not know how to use it. Colleges and universities sometimes list tuition and fees the following year but Jackson Hewitt does not understand this nor do they understand that scholarships and grants are used for college expenses which means students and recent graduates should still receive the AOTC or the Lifetime Credit for their tuition. I am so disappointed with their service. With a do it yourself tax database, I am able to receive a nice refund.
