Each course is better than the next and we all felt that the arctic char was a special achievement: a large portion that still "belonged" in a fine dining lineup. Everything from the seats to the plates was commendable. Only complaint was that dinner was painfully long. Nearly 4 hours passed between walking in and walking out of the restaurant. Really had us wishing they offered 5:30 PM reservations in Europe.

I've been going on ski holidays to the Alps for years and my expectations are moderate when it comes to these places. The hotel itself was renovated fairly recently (5-7 years?) and it shows. The rooms are significantly larger than I've been used to and all the fixtures and general feel of the place is very good. The beds are comfortable but could use a bit of a refresh. The hotel itself is a small 5 minute walk to the lifts, or just a couple of minutes to the bus stations that will take you to one of the Daille or Fornet. Ski shops and restaurants are located all around, and a market is literally next door making shopping extremely easy. The staff are truly friendly and great, and the meals were generally excellent compared to the usual fare. Very much recommended if you're heading out to Val.

We went to Val D'Isere over the New Year. It was very busy. We took the precaution of booking 48…read morehours ahead for every evening, but somehow failed to do so for 1st Jan. We went into the town centre and became increasingly anxious until we found Auberge St Hubert. Inevitably in ski resorts the food is at best average. The lack of competition, the captive market, the lack of energy on the part of punters to seek out a good deal means that we're sitting ducks for uninspired food and service. Having said this, St. Hubert was pretty good. The food was good and generous, the service attentive and prompt. Possibly the best place we visited in the resort. If we ever go back there again we'll put it on our shortlist.
