After a day of sightseeing in foggy January weather in the Ardennes it was such a pleasure to arrive at this hotel.
Christmas had been over for about two weeks but the xmas lights were still up in Bouillon and in the hotel the four or five Christmas trees and assorted decorations perfectly complimented the old school marble and wood decor of the hotel giving it the feel of having stepped back in time to a slightly more elegant age.
Check in was a breez and the staff were delightful And helpful. While I got on with that my wife and the rest of our party relaxed in the bar/ bistro which again with its log fire, sensitive lighting, long banquets and decorations made us all feel relaxed and at home.
All in all the only thing that let this hotel down were the rooms and overall condition of the upper floors. Although our rooms had bee redecorated recently the attention to detail just wasn't there. Very creaky floorboards and a bathroom light switch that also turned on a ceiling light over the bed were just some of the things that made the stay a bit challenging but the bed was very comfortable.
We had dinner in the restaurant which at night when lit with a vast array of candles and overlooking the river was magical. The food was fair and the wine was excellent and priced accordingly
Overall the five of us had a great time and over a very well stocked breakfast buffet recounted the highlights of our trip and it was hard at the time to find much fault with our stay but looking back there are reasons that I'm not going to give five stars but they should not deter you from trying this hotel and maybe you will also experience some of those things that made it a truly magical weekend. read more
