We thought that we would pop in and be out of the door quite quickly, but we enjoyed examining all of the store's wares and spent some time walking through. The clothing in the store is handmade and I found some beautiful garments. One of the women who worked in the store, Virginia, was incredibly friendly, kind, and helpful. We chatted with her quite a bit and left with a wonderful restaurant recommendation. Overall, I think we were surprised at how much fun we would have in this store and how friendly and warm the staff are. I highly recommend a visit and will be back the next time we're in Old Quebec!

QUEBECOIS ARTISAN'S WOODWORK SHOP AND STUDIO…read more While visiting Old Quebec, we dropped by Sculpteur Flamand. Located in the heart of Basse Ville (Quartier Petit Champlain), the shop is full of small and large pieces of hand carved wood sculptures. The pieces range from cute gnomes to relief sculptures of people and Canadian wildlife. Above the shop, we saw the studio where the woodcarvings are created. While planning our trip, we had read how a group of artists in the 1970-1980s transformed a rundown area of abandoned historic buildings into what is now the thriving Petit Champlain district. Monsieur Alain Flamand was among those early pioneers who opened a shop and studio here.

The price is very decent considering its original art work and all hand crafted. There are souvenir stores down the road charging almost the same $$ for much lesser quality accessories that are clearly not handmade. The store is very clean and brightly lit and I particularly enjoy that each artist has a section with some cards you can take that have their information on it. If you are traveling into the city, be sure to support the local artists!!

This cozy store in Old Quebec is a one-stop shop for souvineers and all things Quebec. But not Quebec in the kitschy way, think artisan products made by local artists ranging from feather hair pieces and wool socks for men to fur everything and hand painted magnets. The good: even balance of offerings for both males and females. The bad: slightly on the pricey side but you have to keep in mind these are not mass produced items.
