The bread and olives are complimentary and delicious. I ordered a salad which was wonderful. My mussels came and the sauce, OMG!!!!, so so good. So good for sopping with the extra bread. I ate all of the mussels and I was by myself. Then, my main course came. My Salmon was cooked perfectly. I would go back and have the exact same thing. It was that good. It seems simple but restaurants do get it wrong from time to time. Also, the service was superb. Two young ladies seem to run both inside and outside. Prompt and attentive service. Highly recommend this place. I'll be in Saarbrücken again on Saturday and I'm trying to convince myself to try a new place, but I'm probably just going to go back to La Bastille.

Wonderful, hearty dinner…read more Mr & I stopped by after unsuccessfully trying to find an acceptable dinner spot for over 1 hour.....best move we made! The place sits on a lake & last night was frozen & extremely pretty as we walked up to the house. Seated inside where the bar was located, it felt just like a cozy pub & the waitstaff was super friendly & attentive Mr ordered the onion tart & I chose the potato soup for our appetizers. The onion tart was filled with tons of tender onions and lots of gruyere cheese while my soup was thick & the roasted potatoes did all the talking. Nice smoked flavor from the roasting Main dishes included the potato dumplings filled with spinach and ricotta for the Mr. He loved it & the spinach was very dry and fresh - cooked perfectly I opted for the barley risotto with mushrooms and chestnuts. Tons of wild mushrooms and lots of chestnuts. Our portions were huge! This was a prime example of really wanting to have a to-go box option.....didn't want to leave any behind Thanks for the lovely evening! We'll be back in Spring to sit by the lake

The pumpkin was plentiful and very squashy without being too sweet. It was phenomenal Mom had the fish and said it was the tenderest, flakiest fish she's had & it was indeed perfectly cooked Fantastic meals all around!

We ordered off the chalkboard menu; vegetarian curries for my two sisters, schnitzel and noodles for me, a robust salad for my niece. Delicious! The main dining area is up a flight of stairs and overlooks a courtyard that would have been our seating choice in better weather. Local artists' work hangs on the walls, and the vibe is funky, off-beat and pleasant. The bill for all four of us included a glass of beer for me and wine for the rest, coffees and a yummy shared desert, and was less than 45 euros. This part of Saarbruecken is not a tourist area and the menu and the sweet, patient waitress were strictly Deutsch, but please don't be put off by that.
