Pegasus Taverna in Detroit was such a great find. The rustic Greek decor gives it a really warm,…read moreauthentic vibe, and the ceiling is honestly beautiful--nice touch that makes the place stand out. Service was spot on too, super friendly and attentive without being too much. We went on a Monday evening during the Detroit fireworks, which made it even more fun. Food-wise, the traditional Greek dishes were the highlight. The saganaki was done perfectly, the lamb shank in tomato sauce with rice was rich and comforting, and the gyro was easily one of the best we've had. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and portions. Definitely a spot we'll be coming back to try more dishes.

I lived in Astoria for a couple of years, and could walk to some great Greek restaurants. But I've never had anything like this. First, the dolmas were hard and dry. I've always had them quite wet, basically marinated, and these were bone dry. No ground meat was detectable. The taramousalata was just...flavorless pink fluff. It wasn't even salty! And we were served a basket of bread that was probably the highlight of the meal, in that it was actually pretty good bread -- but it wasn't pita! I've never not been served pita bread with mezze dips. They were out of the grilled octopus, but suggested the cold octopus instead?? I'm not sure why, but at least that was also edible. The retsina I was brought not only had an off chemical taste (and I love a good, piney, resin-y retsina), but it tasted very watered down. My friend said his spanakotiropeta was OK, at least, although he agreed with me on the rest, which is a shame, because I LOVE taramousalata, and I was excited for him to try it.

Take out with a few spots to sit in front but... you have the whole of eastern market to explore.... You will need a walk after your gyro so be ready. Or just park far away. Either ways... try this one. All gyros are great. Meatballs are even better!!

Having lunch at Mitso's walk-up counter in Eastern Market feels like having lunch on vacation…read more There are but a handful of walk-up counter restaurants in the Detroit area, so it feels like a fresh experience. As if I weren't in Detroit. Visiting on a sunny day in the city while people watching was perfect. I'd never had a pork gyro before, and it was fantastic. The meat was charred but still tender and very flavorful. The tzatziki sauce is the perfect condiment for the gyro sandwich as its tangyness cuts through the richness of the meat and bread. This is my new favorite gyro. It comes with fries inside of the pita. They were cold and lackluster, so next time, I will order my gyro without them. The menu isn't overwhelming, so it's easy to pick a favorite go-to on the go. When I go back, I'll have the spanakopita. It looked delish. Service was super fast, and being that it's only 10 minutes from work. I'll come for lunch often.
